Pelini Bros. Bitchfest as reported in Omaha

The Cincinnati coach said last night on ESPN that the :01 call was the right call and to me it was great hearing that validation. Wonder if NU PR will come out with any sort of statement agreeing that it was the right call, even though it was a tough break?

Bo was just pissed, hurt, emotional, etc. and I can fogive that. I can't forgive that his momma didn't teach him to chew with his mouth closed.

After reading the article in the Omaha paper, it was good to see Nebraska fans calling out the coaches for their behavior. Everyone, even Nebraskans, sees the pellinis for what they are.

Pelini gave Texas his #1 vote in the final regular season Coaches Poll. If you think his (and his coaches) outbursts were inappropriate, consider his ballot a formal apology.

Pelinis looked like spoiled three-year-olds pitching a tantrum in the HEB when mom wouldn't buy them a bag of candy. Tossing gum, claiming a conspiracy, saying they got hosed?
Not the way head coaches should act.
Bo should have said he would refrain from commenting until viewing the film of the controversial play, just like any coach should. It had to be hard to take losing like that, but you don't have to turn into a raving lunatic. Dude has issues.

I completely understand being caught up in the emotion of thinking you’ve pulled off an upset only to lose it minutes later. That’s not the issue imho. What is at issue, again imho, is making amends after blowing off steam the way he did. To me it’s an egregious lack of integrity to orally publish strong accusations of cheating and to shame your opponent without making public amends, especially when a review supports the put-back of :01. (hell, it happened a lot during the game that the officials were correcting the play clock, so it really should come as no surprise that in the final seconds the clock would be an issue). Admittedly I’m projecting my values onto someone else and that is wrong. And while I’m being wrong, my thoughts about voting Texas #1 are that it was done out of sarcasm on his part, but how would I know unless he told me?

Silliness of the outburst aside, it was tactically stupid to do it before the kick. I mean it wasn't like the one second gave us the win in and of itself. It simply gave us the shot at a FG. Check Mack's reaction out. He was cool as a cucumber asking for the 1 second and his team stood the most to lose between the two. In my opinion, this is the difference between a great head coach and a head coach who is really more of a great coordinator. I think Pellini should've been like whatever we got this. Suh go block that thing back to Austin and let's get out of here! Not that he would or could have, but having a hissy fit there was dumb.

And Shark4, we are talking about Pellini the coach. Your post is talking about the board. The better question is how would Mack Brown have handled it had the clock in fact expired. I'm betting he doesn't blow a gasket, and instead handles it with as much class and grace as he did winning. But hey, I bleed orange.

Rome said it best on his show today, "NU got scoreboarded not jobbed."

Find a kicker that doesn't shank the ball out of bounds giving UT the ball at the 40.

Find an OFFENSE, damn it. 106 yards of offense, totally unacceptable.

Find a safety who doesn't cause us to lose, as Asante did with his horse collar penalty.

In short, play better. We got scoreboarded, the end.

HuskerNKingwood.

What is your perspective on Pelini? Is his obvious defensive coaching expertise enough to satisfy you or would you like for your coach to be a bit more . . . don't know quite what word to use here . . . classy?

One thing about the whole argle-bargle that gives me pause....

If the shoe was on the other foot, how would our defensive coordinator/head coach-in-waiting handle it?

I am enjoying having him coach one of the best Horn defenses in a long time, but it will interesting to see if Muschamp's fire leads to us having this conversation from a very different viewpoint sometime in the future.....

thoughts?

I was thinking about that as I wrote my post. I think that most great coordinators that become great head coaches learn to wear two hats during a game. They are fiery when coaching the D but diplomatic when it comes to overall game management issues. It's like being party whip and leader all at once. I think good news for Muschamp is he's got a helluva mentor to observe.

If nothing else, I doubt that Boom will constantly chew his cud throughout the games when he is head coach.

Wesser got it.

It's easy to be magnanimous when you're always kicking the crap out of other teams on an annual basis. Nebraska hasn't done that for a while now, and it is showing quite clearly in the fan base.

We had numerous less than cordial encounters with Huskers during and after the game, including one of four Husker douchebags sitting behind my wife and me who screamed "F*** TEXAS" repeatedly at the top of his lungs for a full 30 seconds during and after Hunter's kick went through the uprights.

His group had been making snide comments the entire game, clearly attempting to bait Texas fans into responding, and I was proud of our fans for ignoring their douchebaggery. Those guys were desperately trying to initiate a scenario where they could later discuss how poorly they were treated by Texas fans, but not one single Texas fan bit.

I'm certainly not saying that Nebraska fans are all like that, but what I am saying is that Nebraska fans are exactly like everyone else. They have their bad apples just like any other fan base. They certainly can't be elevated to a higher standard any longer.

Bo calmed down enough to put Texas as #1 on his coaches ballot. However, I am sure this is a good cop/bad cop deal. Brother Carl is the one doing the screaming. If Bo wanted him to shut up he would say so.

Also, Osborne sobered up on Sunday and called Mack to congratulate Texas and to apologize for being an *** Saturday night.

I'm cutting Pelini slack here. I mean Bo, not the little brother who shouted at the Texas bench that "You should be ashamed to accept that trophy."

Bo was pissed and at the height of a very, very difficult moment. Carl, or whoever the brother was definately should apologize.

I don't claim to be the most photogenic person in the world, but I sure wouldn't have missed "picture retakes" when the alternative is having this pic appear on my official website.

Anybody notice the NU coach or trainer or staff that ran by Colt and bumped him "accidentally" and screamed something right in Colt's face when they thought the clock had gone to zero? Does anyone know who is was?

Didn't notice it, but it was likely demeaning. Payback is a ***** isn't it?

In other news, I didn't realize it was brother carl who shouted that we should be ashamed to accept the trophy, so my apologies to Bo. As HC, I still think it would be an awesome move if Bo P acknowledged that he went totally Alanis Morrissette after the game and that he and his staff said things that they regret. Probably won't happen, but that's okay.

Bo should publicly censure his brother Carl for acting like a jackass and insulting the University of Texas while at the same time embarrassing Nebraska University.

Dewbrewer... that would have been their offensive coordinator... the genius whose gameplan resulted in 106 yards of total offense.

As for.. "BCS.. that's what this is about..." How did that work out for the last coach who ranted about that?... cough.. mangino...

Damn, we're making a mountain out of a molehill in very aggy-esque fashion and we won the freakin' game! Mellow out, folks. Football is an emotional game.

I appreciate Bo voting us #1. That's something he did in the sober light of the next day, which is good enough for me to let the rest of the BS go by the wayside.

P.S. "refinement" is definitely not at the top of my list of qualities when it comes to football coaches. Early on Mack was a bit too refined for my taste when he should have shown more fire in the belly. I am not advocating jackassery. I'm just sayin'.

i'm pleased to hear that dr tom called mack to apologize for his behavior. i can imagine mack's gracious response in telling him, essentially, to not give it another thought. that would buy a fair amount of good will between those two very important men.

i'm going to guess that osborne didn't actually see the replay and that someone he trusted told him that time had actually expired and that they were getting the old conference shafteroo. i think after the things we've seen repeatedly out of the sec and plenty over the past several years in this conference, pretty much everybody assumes that the conferences are in it for themselves, and that they have wholesale begun to tailor games for the advantage of the conference. as someone said, we aren't a half-nelson away from a professional wrestling format.

i'm certain something like that is what fueled dr tom's response, and when he had the opportunity to sit down and walk through that youtube or whatever game tape he would have access to, a sick chill went through him, and he got on the horn. i'm sure to the league guys, too.

i have to wonder, now, what kind of relationship exists between osborne and the flying pelini brothers. particularly if it was one of them who assured him of the clock situation. whoever told him that, i wouldn't want to be in those shoes after dr tom showed his *** like that. not that he did all that much, but enough to have his name tossed in the pot in the eyes of the nation along with the others, and enough to feel the need to apologize.
