Our next OC and DC

I'd also like to see what Yurcich does with Epps. Our TE play was mostly pretty lackluster this year. Outside of Brewer, our current TE roster could use some help. Maybe put on another 10-15 lbs of muscle and move Epps to TE...? Epps is already running 6-6 245. We would have all speed guys at WR, with some pretty big fast guys in the mix (Eagles 6-4 225, Lewis 6-3 200, Washington 6-2 200, Omiere--don't know his #s, but big).

For Liebrock, the opposite may be true. He strikes me as more of a really big (and pretty fast) WR. He's definitely in the pass-catching category more than the blocking category. Put Liebrock as the big(gest) WR and Epps bulks up just a bit and moves down to TE where he's needed.

I guess a lot depends on his QB skills of which I have heard little. If he stayed at RB it would not be the first time we had a QB switch positions with great success. After a year of experience and his smash mouth attitude I think he would be good to have in the stable of RBs.

Roschon may be more effective at RB but I haven't see him QB at this level enough to really compare
You have to like what he has brought to running game this year though

Only problem is Epps does not want to play tight end. Besides, he is a pretty pathetic blocker.

Trying to fill out the positions --

OC: Mike Yurcich
QB: Mike Yurcich
OL: Herb Hand
RB: Stan Drayton
WR: Jones (Kansas, WR) or Coleman (interim WR) or Carrier (UH, WR)
TE: None

DC: Chris Ash
DL: Oscar Giles and/or Elijah Robinson (aggy DL. Might be NFL with Rhule) and/or Frank Okam (Baylor DL)
LB: Robb Smith (ex-Minn DC/LB who worked with Ash at Piggy)
CB: Jason Washington (247 says he will interview)
S: Ash (depends on how he fills out the rest of staff)

The latest is that it sounds like Yurcich will also have Josh Moore available to him next season (although IT still thinks he wont make it back). He is going to have a lot of weapons available with Whittington also back.

Update: It now looks like Josh Moore has removed the Texas stuff from his Twitter. Probably not a sign he will be staying. I hope Yurcich befriends Jake Smith quickly. Otherwise, it may settle the JWhitt position question before he ever really had a shot at the slot

IT on Ash

IT: You mentioned coordinators. I'm hearing some positives over Chris Ash already.
Source: He came in the exact right way. He didn't come in hot like Herman. Herman had defensible reasons for doing that but it didn't work all that great. I don't know if Herman coached Ash on how to communicate with the players but whatever it is, they have the players' full attention. Ash has been relatable and shown genuine interest in getting to know the guys as more than just players. He's been honest with them and that's always appreciated. Some guys have been asked about position switches. I think I've mentioned Kobe Boyce but also Al'vonte Woodard and maybe a safety to linebacker. Ash thinks the team is safety heavy, and, well, it is. UT is damn near four deep there with more on the way in a couple of weeks.

IT on Yurcich

IT: We know the defensive players are excited about Ash, but how do the offensive players feel about Yurcich?
Source: He's been a little busy of late and hasn't met with the players. But he's called some players to mention how excited he is to get to work with them. Everyone is well aware of Oklahoma State's offensive success over the years. Being at Ohio State this year also gives him credibility with the players. They're excited.

IT: Have you heard anything about coaching hires?
Source: I think Emmett Jones is the heavy favorite for wide receivers. Herman has liked him for a while and he was going to be a candidate regardless of who the coordinator is. If Yurcich is fine with him I bet it'll be Jones. Tyron Carrier still hasn't interviewed but is expected to in the next day or two. He's another guy Herman has had his eyes on for a while. It seems they're going to hire a stud regardless.

If Jake Smith were to bail it’d be a bit of a shocker unless there is a relationship issue about which we are not aware, or he is homesick. (If he is I’d say that it’s time to grow up.)

The kid was given every opportunity to shine, very early. If he’s not satisfied, I really wouldn’t get it. It would suggest a lack of maturity and perspective given that Dev and CJ are graduating, and there would be an opportunity to start this year.

I do not understand the basis for this doom and gloom rumor. Smith is doing fine on the field, he is playing on both special teams, he likes Austin, he likes his classes. He is not a needy kid. And he well be a starter next year with a very good to great QB.

One game doesn't equal a season. He did good in the bowl.
All of those coaches did although none of them except perhaps Hand had any indication they might return. Ehlinger was mentioning Beck frequently and complimenting him on his contribution to Ehlinger's development. Warhime coached special teams and tight ends.

I hope they got part of some kind of bonus pool.

I guess he may have missed the games last season where we had to start true and redshirt Freshmen because of injuries. They were third and fourth stringers who would have redshirted this year if the need was not so great.
