Aggy was top six preseason, had a stacked lineup, strong pitching and with Schlossnagle as coach. Yet still they manage to lose 25 regular season games and it is only a late season run that even gets them into the tournament. Then they blow a regional winners bracket advantage and flame out. This years aggy team was too talented to do that and yet they did. Its not a 1989 type failure for aggy but at least in '89 they can point to one single lost day against LSU not a season long choke job. I thought their bats would be enough last night in a game seven regional final but they just looked pedestrian. Schlossnagle is a very good coach but he looked lost too and he has to wonder whether last year the stars just aligned a-la 2020 for Fisher and whether he is in for a tough though financially lucrative next couple of years.

I was at the regional in '89 (there were no super regionals in those days) where Texas won to go to Omaha. Coach Gus spoke to the crowd after the game and he was kind of apologizing for losing 2 of 3 to aggy in CS. That's when he sort of stammered out the famous "Where are they now?" statement and of course the crowd went wild. The ags cried and cried about how classless Coach Gus was to say that which made it even better. It rankled them so much because they knew it was true - they had choked again.

I believe Indiana State is scheduled to host the Special Olympics this weekend, which makes their hotels and facilities unavailable.

This didn't age well.

Overall, 56.25% (9 of 16) of the #1 seeds advanced, including 62.5% (5 of 8) of the SEC #1s.

Overall, 44.75% (7 of the 16) of the #2 seeds advanced, including 50% (1 of 2) of the SEC #2s.

All in all, the SEC teams stacked up pretty evenly against their comparably seeded peers this year.

They also stacked up pretty evenly against top seeds in recent history. In the 10 prior tournaments, an average of 63.75% (102 of 160) of the #1 seeds advanced to the Super Regionals.

aggy bitching that Texas was going to get the super over them, when they still had to win a game against Stanford and then promptly losing two straight is reminiscent of the aggy announcer in a regional a few years back with aggy leading in the later innings (I think it was against Rice, but don't recall) telling the fans when super regional tickets would go on sale and aggy proceeded to blow the lead, lose the game and sit at home. Aggy misery never gets old.

…and man do I love it. It doesn’t matter which sport, either. The unearned arrogance getting smashed to pieces year after year, the excuses, the selective historical referencing, the elementary school yard (“oh yeah??!!…) retorts, typically with some type of name calling involved (Whorns, Radio, Butter Teeth, Colt McCry,…..).

Just never gets old and couldn’t happen to a more deserving, delusional, obsessed set of fans/zealots. Makes me smile every time. And, it’s an annual occurrence, so it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

One of life’s little pleasures and reassurance that there is a God and they love us.
 
Aggy tears...consume with caution. While deliciously sweet & irresistible, they may be addictive.
