Why wasn't this targeting on the QB? It's ok if offensive players do it?

If that wasn't targeting there is no such thing as targeting. Lawrence is 6'6". There were other places to hit him.

Just in case there is any confusion, the photo posted by Stat is of a different play than the one that has been discussed earlier in this thread.

I was referring to Wade's hit on Lawrence. I saw the replay 7 times and saw a jarring lead with the crown of a helmet on Trevor's helmet every time.

I beg to differ. It was to Trevor's face mask because Trevor is the taller player. It was really more a chest to chest but Trevor leaned down. What could the tackler do?

I'd rather be known as one and done instead of done long before one.
Probably, and it’s a good point. But let me throw this out there:

If Texas beats UT, who has the better story to tell recruits going into the off-season? I know that sounds crazy but given the extent to which OU was embarrassed (historic proportions) — and yes, we sucked with a 7-5 record — but if I’m Herman I talk about our new OC & DCs, and taking LSU to the brink.

17-18 year old kids have a short attention span...

Certainly, OU didn't go into that game expecting to be embarrassed. If we had the chance, we would have taken it gladly. Right? Does any team go into a Bowl game with the attitude that they will be thrashed? OU was a one-loss team playing in the CFP. We would be a 7-5 (8-5?) team who won a non-CFP game. Which team has the better story going forward?

While I do agree, the egg they laid will be very hard to explain away. And if they lose their HC, OU might be in a world of hurt from an image standpoint. That is, unless they replace him with Meyers, Stoops (2nd tour) or someone of that magnitude.

Of course, OU already has signed letters of intent from 21 recruits from the early signing period, so I'm not sure they are going to be "in a world of hurt" this year even if they don't sign anyone else to this class, and, as for a possible hangover affecting future recruiting classes, you correctly noted that: "17-18 year old kids have a short attention span."

So, OU loses their head coach because their success afforded him an opportunity. We are replacing both of our coordinators because... I don't think we win that battle. I am hoping that we are on the right path now with Ash and Yurcivich.

How do you upload or post a pic. I tried to upload it to an image viewer and inserted link, but can't get it to show. Grabbed a pic of Wade hitting Lawrence from the video and pretty classic ear hole hit. I just can't figure out how to post it.

Oh, I think keeping the head coach wins a lot of battles.

What if the new OU coach likes neither Coordinator?

If Vernables' defense shows up in NOLA, the OU DC will be entering the transfer portal, and all hell will break loose in the Dust Bowl.

What calendar are you using?

Well, I'm an old man, so I suppose recently might mean something a bit different to me than when I was younger. But, to answer your question, I don't use a nonstandard calendar.

The issue with the final is we still do not know how good the Sons of Klem are. Prior to playing aOSU, the best team they had played was quite possibly aggy. The were well rested before the aOSU game. In that game they struggled quite a bit. An unbiased outsider (me) could say LSU in a near blowout. But then there is a reason they play the games.

Re: targeting in the Clemson/aOSU game:

Before this vague and ambiguous "targeting" foul, there was another penalty for leading on a tackle with the crown (top) of the helmet. It was called "spearing", and it was a 15 yard penalty. I suggest ditching the impossibly vague, and inconsistently applied, "targeting" foul, and bring back the spearing penalty. Spearing, 15 yards, with a possible ejection for egregious examples.

Of course, the original spearing penalty was at least as much for the protection of the hitting 'spearer' than the guy getting hit. When you spear, you endanger your neck, and risk a broken neck or even paralysis.
