OTHER GAMES

Go Tigers!
Watching with my in-laws, both Clemson Alumnus. Mainly I just like their uniforms better than OSU.

Which one, the targeting or PI? PI I thought was for sure. Targeting was close, but he lowered his head and made contact to the QB at the head/neck. Going to get called in today's game. I think back to Kindle ear holing Graham Harrell. That kind of hit might get you a multi-game suspension today. No rule to support it, but they'd make one up just because.
I just don’t see targeting here at all but I do see hands to the face by the o lineman blocking chase young

Watching the play on ESPNews, I was getting the skycam view from just behind the QB, and you could definitely see the rusher lower his helmet and the QB's head snap back when he was hit, plus when he hit the ground it was clear he was stunned for a few seconds.

USC fires defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator

Sounds familiar, like when Mack Brown was told to fire Greg Davis or he would be fired. His response was to fire Bull Reese. For USC, this was change for the sake of change and try to deflect fire away from the president

So you don’t see the defender leading with the crown of his helmet? That’s classic targeting, and that’s why the officials came back with the call so quickly.

What are the Overs and Unders for announcing that Yurcich will be our next OC? If tOSU loses — and I certainly hope they do — I say Monday.

If he doesn't drop his head, it's a legal hit. But they aren't going to let you hit the QB with the crown of the helmet. OSU is going to hate themselves if they lose this game. So many mistakes that have led to Clemson points. Roughing the punter was bad luck as the inside guy diving in front of the punter pushed the outside guy right into him.

That was not the crown of his helmet more facemask than anything. They changed the call because it was a hard hit on the quarterback

Yes it was. Replay confirmed it. It's classic targeting and I knew when I saw it it was going to get called. Don't know what to tell you, but announcers, replay booth, and ex ref the network hires all thought it was targeting. That's been called targeting in games I've watched all year.

So did I - because of how it looked and because of precedent (they always call it on defenders when offensive players drop into the path of a defender who aimed at the chest/waist) - not because it's illegal by the details of a very poorly-worded and ambiguous rule.

Did not know that Lawrence was that fast

Reminded me of Colt McCoy again the Aggies in 2009.

Texas, with perhaps the greatest team ever, 2005, only managed a 33 point win in the RRS against a down OU with no Adrian Peterson.

LSU beat a pretty damn good team that won the freaking conference again by 35.

Texas can't beat OU worse than LSU can.

So if we had punched in one more meaningless late touchdown in that game, this would matter now ... how exactly? And this would have made a difference in the all-time status of one of the greatest college football teams in history?

We play in the big 12 we see crappy calls every single week that they all get wrong. Had that been a rb,wr, or te that doesn’t get called on that play. Unless they changed the rule making the facemask the crown of the helmet then okay I understand but he didn’t lead with his helmet he squared him up Lawrence braced himself. I just don’t see it. If I’m wrong that’s fine won’t be the first time but I think it was a bad call because If that’s targeting then they need to throw that flag on almost every ball carrier because they drop their head just about every single carry.

the defender drops his head right before contact. Basically you're taught to see what you tackle. He did not. That's why it's targeting. You really have nothing to support your argument except you. Ref, replay refs, network ref all agreed. Maybe they'll invite you to be on the rules committee so you can fix it. But in today's game that's going to get called every time whether you agree or not because the rule says you can't drop you head and led with the crown of your helmet which is exactly what happened.

Meanwhile tOSU takes the lead on a great call on 4th and 2.

Lawrence’s pocket presence doesn’t impress me. Not a great time clock in his head, and an inability to recognize an obvious blitz...

Now, he does seem to know when to run...

tOSU has felt like the better team all game long. Just every time they make a mistake the Tigers make them pay for it. But if tOSU scores a TD here this one is close to over. Way this game has played out Clemson will hold them to a field goal and get one last chance to win.
