OTHER GAMES

A big lineman just blocked a punt for Shiner and recovered it in the endzone!!! Shiner v Post for the 2A Championship.

Shiner 28
Post 20
3rd Q

They’re good for more than just brewing beer in Shiner.

Hmmmm. Looks like someone should send that old DKR tackling video to Shiner’s coach. Gotta like the slipperiness of Post’s QB.

I know it’s 5A and 6A that feeds the vast majority of the Division 1 athletes to colleges. But I enjoy watching these 2A, 3A, and 4A games better. I don’t mean to sound like a flake, but they’re the very essence of Texas High School Football.

I always thought Post and/or Pampa should be the Pronghorns
Post is the Antelopes. I guess they could be more specific and be the Pronghorns. When going through Post, grab a burger and fries at Holly’s. It’s pretty good.

Tangent—one time while driving through Montana, I had well over two dozen pronghorns within my field of vision.

Our running back at Hallettesville is their cousin. If you haven't seen him yet, watch him tonight. He is special, and plays both ways.

Yep. Halletsville plays at 7. As you just mentioned, we’ve got a good incoming Freshman on the Brahmans’ team.

Halletsville must be about 20 miles from Shiner and the same from Cuero. Point being—that little pocket of the State an hour or so East/Southeast of San Antonio has some really good football.

That big Shiner DT (#1) who blocked a punt for a touchdown earlier just hit the corner on a sweep, delivered a stiff arm and ran over a bunch of little guys for about a 20 yard gain. Only in the smaller classes would you see something like that.

Dude can really move for such a big guy.

Doug Brooks
#1 Shiner Comanches
RB and DT
6’1” 265 lbs

I hope someone gives him the chance.

On edit: looks like he holds an offer from the Houston Cougars. He’s class of 2022. Better keep a close eye on him. With that size/speed combination, we might be interested in him. Plus we’ve got the family connection.

Could make a major college SDE or with growth and weight room work, an interior DT.

Congrats Shiner Comanches—Champions of Texas.

Probably so. And he’s no slouch himself. Even if he doesn’t get much bigger, with his RB speed at that weight, he could play at SDE as an underclassman at some pretty good major college programs. Looks like UH is already after him. If he’s not on our radar, he should be.

Class of 2022.

Shiner’s #1 could make an Angelo State, Hardin Simmons, or the like, very happy. Dude can really move for such a big guy.
Leonard Davis stood out at UT for his size. Can you imagine 1A footballers compared to him?

And leave as soon as you can. Post has gotten very stinky these days. Ten years ago I liked to stop there but the last few trips through are brutal to the nasal senses.

Lots of sulphur in the oil around there. And lots of oil wells in and around that town.

But if Post isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry, Justiceburg and Fluvanna are just down the road a bit (might as well be London and Paris).

Head north out of Snyder and turn left at Post to get to Bottomless Lakes State Park in Roswell on the way to Durango

Canadian v Franklin

The Canucks (actually the "Wildcats") lead 14-7 at the half. Gotta like the optimism of the Franklin coach, down 14-7: "We've got them right where we want them..."

Canadian gets some style points for a fat kicker.

Long bomb TD for Canadian -- caught by "Twister Kelton" (a highly appropriate name for a Panhandle lad).

Now:

Canadian 21
Franklin 7

And now:

Canadian 21
Franklin 14
