Only 5 goddam players stayed in the field for the Eyes

You are right the winey weepers are not all at a&M,they are the ones whineing that they shouldnt have to sing the eyes. Maybe they should transfer to A&M.

According to aggy "The eyes of Texas are upon you . . . That is the song they sing so well... sounds like hell!". A lot of our players apparently agree with aggy and I wish they would transfer there to be with their fellow aggy. I mean a good chunk of our players act like aggy, play like aggy, choke like aggy, think like aggy, agree with aggy, etc...

Why again do you all give your money to these guys?? It's still baffling to me that a government agency has been able to dupe large numbers of seemingly intelligent people that in addition to getting their tax dollars and ***-raping its students on tuition, they need donations while its personnel crap on your country. I really don't get it.

Anyway, I'm getting bored with this, and I'm cash heavy this week. I think I'm gonna write out a check to the Texas Workforce Commission. Maybe those guys need a new computer or a new refrigerator in the break room.

Deez, you are right on track. Any money given to this bastion of Cultural Marxism is betrayal of the State of Texas and its people.

If UT was the best option for my child for an education, I would pay for that because of the benefit to my kid, but nothing else and I would be very careful what department I gave to. It would have to clearly benefit my child's life directly. Otherwise, there are other options that don't feed my enemies.

Yep, and when I was more politically involved, it always pissed me off when I would see Republican politicians at the Texas Capitol cozying up with UT administration officials and doing their bidding. I felt like slapping them and saying, "you all do understand that these people think you and especially your constituents are a bunch of retrograde orangutans just because of your politics, right?"

But did they really give a **** if they were getting the ole mighty dollar?

The university officials? They care about money a lot, of course, but it isn't all they care about. They care about non-accountability to the public at least as much. Though they'll schmooze with anybody, they would prefer to have Democrats running the show, because they'd give them what they most want - lots more state money and even less accountability.

No 03, not necessarily saying that, although I don’t think we out talent them across the board. What I believe is we do not have the ‘elite’ talent above the teams which we seem to claim often on this board. Y biggest issue is why can we never get a running game? I see other teams actually create holes for their running backs and power run for two three yards when they have to have it. That is the area (and often the defense lapses on tackling and coverages) that I question raw talent. Watching other teams on a Sat only confirms my feelings.
But no matter what I’m in my seat on Saturday pulling as hard as ever. Oh, and singing the Eyes.
Elite talent is generally an illusion. Typical elite talent is just the manifestation of all the other support pieces coming together. Mahomes didn't look elite at TxTech. He looked good. Now at KC, he looks elite. Reggie Bush looked elite at USC, he looked pedestrian in the NFL.

The difference between highly coveted 5 stars and a 3 star is generally 0.1 on their 40 yrd, and 1 inch on their vertical, or 15 lbs on their bench. Those can help you make plays certainly, but the bigger difference is how the package is all put together (ie, coaching) and how the attitude of the team comes together (ie. coaching).

This is why so many 5 stars can still end up being busts. They looked like world beaters in HS because their HS had supporting elements (teammates, schemes) that made them look elite.

I should have had you read my last comment with alot of sarcasm lol

I saw 5 players and 2 of them had their arms raised: Sam and one other. I sit above where they enter the locker rooms. No one has a a better view than me.

This floors me. This team is dead to me so I don't care if they win or lose, but this takes it to a whole new level of disrespect for The University.

Can anyone imagine Earl or Ricky not staying n the field for The Eyes of Texas? Roger Clemens or Quin Lloyd? This environment created is beyond cancerous

Or Peyton Manning not leading Rocky Top after beating Florida? Errr....wait...wrong board...

Why do I care?
- not singing the Eyes (or really, not respecting others singing it) means they are not a part of the University’s traditions and culture that the alumni and student body embraces.
- it smears every good person at the university as racist or at the least being unwelcoming towards black students.
- I don’t believe the Eyes is racist nor do I believe the University is unwelcoming towards blacks.
- The University even has a racial admission policy to increase black enrollment (not to mention tutoring and other programs that I personally volunteered at when I was a student)
- So, yes I take it personally. As one commentator noted on Twitter, BLM is apparently about revenge against whites, not improving the situation for blacks. They act in bad faith.

Nick Saban disagrees with you. 5 star talent doesn't matter when they aren't coached up. Texas problem is coaching. We have incredible talent. Not quite Alabama talent, but better than Tech and TCU. Unfortunately our coaching is subpar.

Just sing the damn song! Good God, it is not too much to ask. The whole "movement" to not sing the song because of some alleged racist connotation a hundred years or so ago is stupid. Not quite "defund the police" stupid. I would give it the silver or bronze medal in the Stupid Idea Contest.

These players need to get the message that fans do not care what they think. We are going to have to deliver this message sooner or later, so let's just yank the bandaid off now.

Sam is about the only reason that I'm still watching the Horns. He's a special player and it's just too bad we couldn't put a winning team around him.

Edit: And I don't consider 7-4 and a mediocre bowl to be a winning team.

IMO, Sam is above average, but not an elite player. With that said I love the kid because he's tough as hell, plays his heart out and truly bleeds burnt orange.

Sam is a throwback to the Tommy Nobis old school type of player. He puts the team first and his own interest second, unlike the vast majority of our 2020 squad. He's certainly elite in the UT pantheon of QBs. Only Vince and maybe Colt were any better than Sam since I've started watching in the early 60s. I never saw Bobby Layne play.

Dear Tom,

Why do you think the fans go to the game? Why do you think they pay so much money and that you are able to live a set for life lifestyle? What is it that you think they really want?

Can you answer those questions?

Why did you demand that fans offer their daughters up in marriage and provide post-game/season love for the players when in reality, the level of contact between the fans and the players has historically been remote at best? Even Colt's wife mocked some of the fans wanting to hang out with the players. You have completely spun the relationship into a pact of some sort that is a virtual life-time commitment through marriage to our daughters and a career on top of the full-ride and adulation as gladiators.

Please explain the entitlement issues and your apparent mission creep into areas that has nothing to do with winning.

You are mistaking TH for someone who cares what you think.

By the way, Mahomes was an elite player at Tech, he was just playing for a team with nothing but a qb and some receivers. The battle with OU his last year was one for the ages. He beat out Baker Mayfield when he was a freshman for god's sake. He was great from the start. One of my degrees is from Tech and I follow their program a bit, when I can. I saw every game he played in that was on tv and he was awesome. It was no accident that Andy Reid traded up to get him in the draft. Elite coaching recognized elite quarterbacking. Hope he stays healthy.

TH needs to worry about mistaking people like me for fans that think he was a good choice as HC.
I initially thought TH was a good choice for HC. I also initially thought Trump would be a horrible and liberal President. Based on performance in office, I now realize that my initial impression of both men was completely wrong.

I initially thought TH was a good choice for HC.

I did too. I have stated on here before that UT *had* to take TH after the Charlie Strong debacle (he was, what, our 3rd choice? 4th?) to show that, if there was a hot coach out there that everybody wanted, we could get him if we wanted. That aside, I also wanted him after the way UH totally dismantled Louisville and OU. However, after he threw the fans under the bus earlier this year, I am off the bandwagon.

That's the Charlie Strong Experience. It wasn't just a debacle, it was an entire Experience that lasted 3 years of futility.

Oh when you think back about it all, the 3 losses to TCU, the 65 yards of offense in some crappy Dec 26 bowl, the 3 losing seasons, the strutting around with the gold hat on after his one and only win against OU (to his credit, that's the same number of wins as He-Man in one less attempt), only to lose a bunch of games after that.

The false dawn of the OT win against ND followed by lots of losses after that, including the creme de la creme, the OT loss to Kansas, and not on some fluke play, but KU stopping Texas and then powering the football into the end zone to win it.

Then the comical gate crashing of the Monday press conference by some of the players, big old puppy dog tears rolling down their faces as they threatened that if Charlie was fired that week they would quit (an astute reporter would have asked "Didn't you quit last Saturday"). And the coup de grace against TCU, then Charlie Strong Experience dropped its curtain for the last time. Good times!

I don't know why a coach re-signing is approached like we are desperate. Most coaching hires for most programs don't seem to work out. Why do programs feel the need to lock-in coaches, especially UT or the other 8-10 money-schools out there. If the coach is successful there is always room to pay 2-3 million more AFTER sustained success. Why do they feel the need to immediately recognize nominal improvement with a re-write of the contract adding 3-4 more years. The downside is much more significant than the upside financially.

I get the whole "send a signal to recruits" but it sure seems to me that this card is way over valued.

Personally, my thought is that coaches / AD's / school presidents are all represented by the same groups of agents, and that an extension on one of them results in extensions for the others from a bandwagon effect.

So, AD's and presidents are happy to throw extension around, in the idea that they'll be next.

Could be wrong - maybe everyone was just drunk on the Sugar Bowl win and thought it was a great idea.

I initially thought TH was a good choice for HC.

I didn't know if he would be good or not. I knew LSU wanted him really badly and he was head coach for two years at Houston. I guess he seemed like an unproven trendy pick but didn't really have much of a feel for how he would do as head coach at Texas.

What I did post a few times about was my concern with Orlando and how over his entire career he left defenses worse when he left than when he took over. I also was concerned he had an open checkbook to hire whoever he wanted and he brought pretty much his entire Houston staff to Austin....I didn't think that was a smart move.

After his second year and hearing everyone talking about him "learning on the job" that should have been the light. I don't know if its apathy or what, but I still don't have the passion to fire him even though deep in my heart I know he has no idea how to produce a championship team. Maybe it's because deep in my heart I don't believe the administration is capable of bringing in anyone better than Herman.
