Spurs have not won many games recently against teams with winning records, I see them going 2 - 6 on this road trip. I feel age has caught up to them, I hope I am wrong.
Last nights game against the Jazz was bad, lots of techs and fouls. Udoka got ejected and the spurs had only one starter score more than 5 points. Ginobili and Duncan are the only guys producing right now. I hope the rest of the team can come around soon. They need some consecutive wins. GO SPURS GO!
Things just haven't meshed. Probably a lot of that is injuries, but I just think time is catching up with Finley, Bowen and Barry in particular. Hard to say Duncan is slipping when he's shooting well and posting solid all-around numbers. I wish everyone would slip to that level.
I've never thought the Spurs failed to repeat any of their first three championships due to complacency, and I don't think they're suffering from that problem this year, either. Several teams with great young talent (Portland, NO, Utah) are on the rise in the West, and winning another title with this cast of Spurs will be tough even if we're playing well and have health on our side. Here's hoping we get our act together by the playoffs.
3 in a row... let's keep it going. Sorry I had to bump this with a big game against the Celtics coming up on Sunday. Last night Ginobili was sick with assists. He had a career high 10 total and at least 5 of them were really impressive. Also, the spurs got three 3s from...
Manu with 10 assists, Oberto with 11 rebounds and excellent D, Tim didn't look like anything special only because after a decade we've gotten too used to see him calmly dissect an opponent like this, and Horry reminded everyone that he hasn't retired yet.
I think they're playing pretty well in light of Parker's injury. His health is going to be the key to the season (unless god forbid Ginobili or Duncan get hurt). For whatever reason, I'm less worried now than I was a week ago.
It's hard for me to get upset about the Celtics game when they got outshot from the line big time and gave up a ton of ridiculous second shots off of free throws down the stretch. The C's got the bounces and the Spurs didn't. It happens. I also think the Celtics put a lot more into that game than the Spurs did. They have been fighting all season to validate themselves to the rest of the league, and there's nothing like beating the champs at home to do so.
Put me in the "just as worried as I am every other year" camp. By that, I mean not really worried at all. Now I am not saying that I am confident the spurs are going to win it all but I am saying that I am confident that they still have a good chance. Other teams have improved a lot and the spurs have simply gotten a little older. I mean Big Baby guarding Duncan...WTF. They need to get Parker back and try and get everything sorted out. Parker adds a lot when it comes to fastbreak points and getting to the line. GO SPURS GO!
I'll gladly take a 6-3 rodeo trip where they lost the first two and played without Parker the whole time.
It's time to gear up for a playoff run. Things are going to be out of control in the West down the stretch -- even moreso if this Kidd trade goes through. Everybody is changing personnel -- the Spurs stay the same. Can all of these new players mesh in time for the playoffs? Will be interesting to see what familiarity and chemistry count for in the playoffs vs. talent.
And Manu... he has been unstoppable the past 2 games. Last night 46-8-5 with 3 steals. In Toronto on Monday, 34-6-15. Outside of Jordan (and possibly Magic), he's got the strongest will to win I've ever seen in an NBA player.
What happened to all those predictions of 2-7, and 3-6 on the rodeo road trip? Somebody forgot to tell Manu, Tim, and company that theyr'e washed up. Come on guys - this is the NBA champs! 6-3 on this road trip (without Parker) is phenomenal
Pop is a great guy and I've defended him since 1997. Remember all the people that hated him for years because he fired Bob Hill? I remember people complaining all the way up untill 2004 or so. Too many idiots.
I'll say here what I've been saying the last few months. Pop retiring worries me more than Tim retiring. Pop has said that he stays as long as Tim stays. That scares me.
I think there are about 6 teams within a game of the lead.
Gotta like where the Spurs are. Ginobili up a notch. Parker well rested due to layoff (Is his ankle completely healed?), Duncan doing his usual greatness, and Thomas coming in (when does he play as he had no minutes last night).
The West will be tough and then you have Boston, Detroit, or Cleveland waiting for you from the East.
