Again, this is just my opinion and I respect that not everyone may share it.Meh. IMO conference championships are more important than what you do in a random single game elimination tournament outside of winning it all. So if a program doesn’t make the tournament for four straight years but barley gets into the tournament the 5th year and miraculously gets to the final four, you’d take that over winning the conference on a consistent basis? And Texas wasn’t close to being a bubble team at the end of the year this year.
A national championship over a conference championships goes without saying just like I mentioned but I would gladly take winning the conference mediocre or not over making deep runs in the tournament and not winning anything. I think we put too much of an emphasis on the tournament at times. Especially in wbb when there’s only been a few different programs win over the last 30 to 40 years.Again, this is just my opinion and I respect that not everyone may share it.
For me it's about the big picture. Obviously no, I'm not just looking to scrape into the tournament and somehow get a lucky run to the F4 (besides, that almost never happens on the women's side). I do want to see the team (a) become a fixture in the national top 10, (b) consistently compete for conference championships, and (c) become a serious Final Four contender. I think all 3 of these goals are achieved together or not at all.
In a conference with multiple elite teams (especially like the Big 12 used to have) I wouldn't feel like we had to win it every year. Unfortunately, the Big 12 collectively has devolved in the past 8-10 years to the point where it didn't even have a 2nd team in the top 25 for the vast majority of the season.
Now that Baylor is the only team in the Big 12 that can remotely be described as elite, I understand that they're the immediate yardstick that many reach for. Obviously, if we can't even stay on the court with Baylor (which for the most part has been the case under KA), that doesn't bode well for our competitiveness in any other venue either.
But if I had to choose between a conference title and a national championship, give me the natty every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Uhhh.. never mind. LOLUh.. WTH does Baylor have to do with any damn thing when Oklahoma won the conference this year in football and basically wins it every year and same for Kansas in men’s basketball?
And no, women’s basketball is not a major college sport. Men’s football, basketball, and a non revenue sport in baseball are the major sports in college athletics. I’m worried about trying to beat Oklahoma and Kansas and really couldn’t care less with what Baylor is doing outside of wbb and that also includes volleyball in which Texas has won the conference every year for the most part for almost a decade and haven’t just had one great year.
Ok.Uhhh.. never mind. LOL
Wow. It takes a special kind of stupid to think that would be funny. How long did it take you to come up with that one?Oh I see why you guys aren't winning now. CdC is making calls for yall. Center for disease control. I get it now he's trying to control the virus, in Texas.
Bobcat you had a good response until this sentence. CdC revived TCU Women's Basketball and totally refocused Texas' Softball program with his hires. He gets that Aston's teams have bee falling short over the past couple of season, but he obviously hasn't found a better option. If he keeps her, he doesn't care about womens' basketball.... It's really that simple!!!
I totally agree that his hire of Pebley revived TCU womens' basketball, and the resurgence of Texas' womens' softball has been phenomenal. However, if what you say is true and he hasn't found a better option than Aston, then he OBVIOUSLY hasn't been LOOKING because there are numerous better options.....Bobcat you had a good response until this sentence. Right. So you want to hire a coach that probably should’ve already been fired after 5 years of mediocrity, but you also want to get rid of a coach because of two years of average play by HER standards? I find it very laughable that the most out spoken critics of Coach Aston on here would be so obsessed over a coach that has been horrible at here respective school. I don’t want to hear the nonsense about how she would do better if she had the same talent, recruiting is apart of being a coach. And Pebley is literally smack dab in the middle of probably the best recruiting area in the entire country with beautiful facilities and still can’t recruit well.I guess it's time for the FACTS again.
TCU had never made the NCAA tournament or won a conference title prior to 2000. Jeff Mittie accomplished both in his second season. He maintained HIS success of reaching the NCAA tourney just about every season for the next 10 years; then, struggled the next 5 seasons before his departure to KSU.
CDC hired Pebley in 2014; after 5 seasons, no NCAA tourney for TCU under Pebley's guidance, including a 9th place finish in her 3rd season. CDC hired a WORSE head coach than the departed Mittie. If there was a "revival" of TCU hoops under Pebley, it only took 6 seasons.

And let’s be clear. The expectations at Texas are only what they are because Coach Aston set them. Both things can be true, Aston can both be under performing vs the expectations at Texas and also be a vastly better option than Reagan Peebly. IDK why we've even devoted so much time to the comparison. I get that TCU had a flash in the pan this year (with a bunch of seniors) but as a whole, the two coaches are not even close.
Personally I like Marlene Stallings at Tech and Regan Pebley at TCU. The guy at Kansas is a really good coach, just has nothing to work with. Thoughts anyone???
And since the 2 loudest critics think this is funny prove me wrong. Who set the high and some might even say unrealistic expectations that Texas women’s basketball has right now as we speak? And let’s be clear. The expectations at Texas are only what they are because Coach Aston set them.
Still no response I see, not surprised when them facts hit.And since the 2 loudest critics think this is funny prove me wrong. Who set the high and some might even say unrealistic expectations that Texas women’s basketball has right now as we speak?
The reaction when that new contract is reported.
Yes, you're right. The same reaction after we lose when we've been OUTCOACHED by teams with far less talent -- (Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, TCU, West Virginia, Hawaii, Arizona). At least most of us on this board are consistent with our perspectives and opinions -- even if we vehemently disagree. It's rather cowardly to flip back and forth... Don't ya think? The reaction when that new contract is reported.
KA set the high expectations when she had 10 McDonald's HS All-Americans on her roster a few years ago... expectations that have never been met and have since been muted with her progressive failures. And since the 2 loudest critics think this is funny prove me wrong. Nope, it’s rather smart when you’re an adult and can look at things realistically. I can sit here and throw temper tantrums all day like you and a couple others or look like a hypocrite like you and want to get rid of a coach because of 2 down years by HER standards but at the same time want to bring in a coach that’s been horrible for 5 plus years at another school. Actually, you are the most INCONSISTENT (fickle, even) poster on here.At least most of us on this board are consistent with our perspectives and opinions -- even if we vehemently disagree. It's rather cowardly to flip back and forth... Don't ya think?

You state over and over that you want a head coach who can beat Baylor, win conference championships, coach good offense, recruit elite talent, and advance far in the NCAA tournament.
Then, you lobby for head coaches like Raegan Pebley, Brandon Schneider, and Marlene Stallings even though they don't meet a single one of those criteria. LMAO
KA set the high expectations when she had 10 McDonald's HS All-Americans on her roster a few years ago . . ..
