NCAA Tournament 2022

Good heavens! Dayton is 10-12 from 3pt line and there’s a little over 5 minutes left in the 2nd Qtr
Exactly why I never put too much stock into the "new look" Sooners we've seen this year... they play with the same philosophy/style as DePaul. Their defense is pretty much non-existent.

I've got my eye on that first round matchup in Baton Rouge between Jackson State and LSU.
Same. That might be a much tougher 4-13 than most would expect. Of their 6 losses, 5 of them came against Power 5 opponents and 4 of those are in the NCAA tournament. The closest they came to getting ‘blown out’ was their 14-15 point loss to Texas, lost a few of them by 4-6 points.

From TheNext preview of high Big12 seeds…

Spokane Region – No. 2 Texas (March 18)

Shortly after cutting down the nets Sunday at the Big 12 Tournament, head coach Vic Schaefer was happy to tell anyone who would listen that his Texas team could easily be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns enter this year as a two-seed and will play one more weekend in the Erwin Center on the Texas campus. Then, they will take on No. 15 Fairfield in the First Round, a team that is making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1998. The Stags won the MAAC Tournament championship to earn the automatic bid. They are on a 15-game winning streak and are led by the MAAC leading scorer, 6’1 forward Lou Lopez-Senechal.

Texas is looking at an interesting matchup in the Second Round against the winner of the No. 7 Utah and No. 10 Arkansas. It will mirror playing one of their fellow Big 12 teams – Iowa State. Both Utah and Arkansas are in the top 15 in the nation in three-point attempts. Utah comes into the NCAA Tournament field at 20-11 and averages 9.4 three-pointers/game. Arkansas, 18-13, has four players that average double-figures and average 8.2 three-pointers/game.

Whoever is the matchup for the Longhorns, their relentless pressure defense will have to push their opponent off the three-point arc and force them to penetrate into an always congested lane. Texas is absolutely peaking at the right time again this season – do not be surprised to see them back in the Elite 8 in two weeks.

I think that was the game Coach Vic went to their lockeroom after game and had some very encouraging words for the team and coaches after our game. It was early in season but they really played us tough.

Maybe it's just me thinking this was in bad taste. But, the first question asked was to Joanne in the press conference, but they wanted her to talk about Rori? And, the followup question from same person was wanting Joanne to talk more about Rori.

I kinda felt the same way but it was a Houston reporter asking a Houston player about another Houston player so it seemed ok to me as I thought about it.

I was okay with it because you know the reporter is writing a story about Rori and wanted some quotes to add to the news article.

I suppose Joanne and Rori knew of one another much the same way Lauren and Matharu knew of one another in Washington DC.

Sometimes these committees do some things that leave me scratching my head. You have a #15 seed in Fairfield from the state of Connecticut that you could have easily sent (driven) to play nearby at #2 seed UConn, and allowed several of their families and friends to watch them play in person without having them incur a lot of expense; but, instead you fly them to Austin, TX to face #2 seed Texas. Meanwhile, you fly #15 seed Mercer from Macon, GA up to Storrs, CT. :confused2:

This is just such a heart-wrenching read about former Longhorn, and current South Carolina player, Destiny Littleton. I knew she had a very rough childhood, but I didn't know the half of it.

I was so happy when she chose to come play at Texas. And, sad when she transferred as she believed she should be playing more. Although picking South Carolina didn't seem like the right choice (to me) to find more playing time, maybe it was all part of a bigger plan.

That question kind of took me aback also. I thought Jo handled it well as she always seems to do.

I had no idea. What a story. Good for her and I’m glad she’s found joy in basketball.

Goodness Miami is laying it on USF in the first half. Going to be some great basketball this weekend. Got my lounge chair in place and ready to enjoy.

2022 Women's NCAA Tournament odds and BPI predictions (espn.com)

This is really interesting if you're into odds of winning it all, and odds to win the first round game. In some ways, it sure looks like so many teams weren't seeded correctly (according to the oddsmakers).

The lines that the book sets are not necessarily keyed to rankings. In some cases, lines are keyed to off-setting the money coming in so that one side of a game or one team in the futures market is not overweighted.

We see this in other sports on a regular basis as well. Futures market, which even the 'odds to win it all' really are even though it is only a few weeks of time, see lines that are always moving and are keyed to the here and now while seedings are looking at a body of work, albeit with some influence from 'what have you done lately.'

And, when it comes to women's sports, small amounts of money can create large moves in the prices. This holds true in the WCWS as well (William Hill is one of the few books in Vegas that regularly put lines out on those games). A bet of just a grand can really move a number where in something like pro football, even a $10K bet hardly moves the needle on most of the lines...

As per usual and so very fitting, Waco is a shitshow to drive through today coming from Dallas. Looks like it’s going to take 30 minutes to get through this hellscape

Really, Shakira Austin? You are 1-10 from the field against South Dakota in Waco? So much for Ole Miss challenging Baylor in the second round. 57-43 after 3 quarters.
