Longhorns vs piggies

Agree Chop, Casey looks a lot more ‘at home’ out there and last night Card looked out of place.
Wasn’t that missed field goal a 52 yarder? Hardly a chip shot but the dropped punt was disastrous.

It appears that Hudson was playing stiff and playing not to make mistakes.
It appears that Casey plays loose and to make plays/make things happen.

Hudson may have a higher ceiling—with good OL play and good WR play.
But for the here and now, I can’t see how Sark doesn’t play Casey more than Hudson.
Yes, maybe start the game with Casey and put in Card when there is less pressure.

Hudson Card - #2 dual threat QB in the nation.

Not by anyone who could spell "football", much less knows anything about it. He is a product of Todd's machine, albeit a talented product.

I have been polite, *****-footed around using coach speak - Stevie Wonder could see that this team doesn't believe in Card. Sark is too gracious and classy to say it, but he was in shock when he saw how little talent we actually have.

Hudson Card - #2 dual threat QB on the Texas Longhorns.

You are too generous. Our QB went to Alabama with the Brockermeyers. I invite anyone to watch last night's tape & find a tape of Tompkins against Katy with that kid facing similar pressure in HS while upsetting Katy.

Card had 9 possessions. 6 were 3 and outs. 1 was a missed FG. 1 was a TD on a short field after a turnover. IMHO, at a minimum, Sark should have put in CT at the beginning of the 3rd qtr.

I believe Sark put CT in late 3rd and the hole was 33-7... way too late.

As the man 100% in charge of the offense he better look in the mirror and have a conversation with himself before talking to any other coach. He's about to find out very quickly how little patience we have with **** like this.

If he's the coach we believe he is and he believes he is, he will do that. A HC has to address his own failures and mistakes for a loss, especially a disastrous loss where not only did the wheels fall off the wagon, the wagon turned over, caught fire and burned to ashes. This wasn't a loss where an opponent kicked a 60 yard field goal into the wind as time ran out for the win. This was all round poor performance by the players and the coaches resulting in the football version of Custer at the Little Bighorn. If he addresses the issues, gets the team and coaching decisions mistakes ironed out and we see improved performances on the field and in-game adjustments that's positive. If not, he's not going to be long for this position. The man worked under Saban, and should possess the ability to identify, address and correct the coaching flaws of him and his staff, and also the player errors prior to the next game.

Typical overreaction Sunday.
Biggest disappointment was D coaching/scheme not adjusting to stop run at all costs. Dude was 138 yards passing 0 TD 1 INT near end of 3rd quarter and we are still playing pass 1st, run 2nd like it is Big12 or Pac.
Defense was made to look worse than it is due to poor scheming and flat just got tired eventually due to O not doing enough. Would have been different if we had put up some points.
Tone was set when Crawford steps out of bounds on what would have been an early dagger.
WRs still not getting enough/consistent spacing but some looks were there just missed em.
Overreactions on Card, though. Dude can flat sling it and will be great for us....maybe not behind this line right now...CT may be better fit and should have gone in at least a series sooner....we were still in it albeit barely and would have likely saved us the fumble leading to 7 pts and the nail in coffin.
Oline cant run block and very inconsistent pass protecting....seen worse though in some recent years. Dline getting pushed around and no penetration again. Our D looked designed for typical Big12 or Pac offense and that isn't what we were facing.
Fixes:
Scheming to play run or pass vs opponents tendencies and strengths
Harder to fix:
Oline talent
Dline penetration
Controversy: The fan base and media will do Sark no favors on this. Should have put CT in sooner. Card still has great potential. Play them both vs Rice and then likely start CT at TCU.....though again you may see a very different CT as a starter than coming off bench with little to lose.
Final analysis:
Chill out and show your support

As a whole we are the biggest group of " sunshine patriots and summer soldiers" in all of football. Patience? Yeah right.

Fred Akers will continue to have the record of 2 - 0 start as head coach. Are we this bad or is Arkansas this good? A little bit of both.

Probably a combination of both. Arkansas came out ready to play an old rival which was ranked, and perhaps with the thought that "these guys are going to be in the SEC with us, so let's give them a real taste of what each week is going to be like." Our starting QB looked lost, was inaccurate on throws and seemed to be hesitant to take off running. Here an article I found addressing the QB play:

What does Texas do at quarterback now?

I'm not over reacting to the loss. I knew Fayetteville was going to be a battle and I'm not surprised we lost. What I am reacting to is the fact that we didn't even show up. Unfortunately, that is Texas' MO way too often. I'm very surprised to see it happen with this coaching staff. That's why my confidence in this staff has been shaken.

Card also seemed too committed to not running when pressure came, which is understandable to want your quarterback to let plays develop, but when the offensive line can’t block a parked car, you have to do everything you can to get yards.

Has Kevin Borba been reading my posts on Hornfans?:smile1:

After all, wasn't the spread created to spread things out and get the ball out quickly to minimize differences in talent in the trenches?

Rain, we certainly disagree. Yes, the defense struggled. But don’t forget that they held the pigs to 16 points in the first half, 9 of which were on field goals that could have been touchdowns if not for good defensive effort. And it wasn’t like those were all long drives either. At some point, when the O isn’t doing squat, the defense is going to break. That’s what happened last night, primarily in the second half.

This was on the offense. Sark’s was badly out schemed by Odom, and Card was completely ineffective. The fact that Sark didn’t get that and didn’t make a change is pretty troubling.

That was the purpose as I recall. But, Card seemed to have more of a "dear in the headlights" type issue, may have been confused, and could have run and safely slid down to prevent being hit.

I had high hopes for this staff. Thought we had left the ineptitude of Herman and Strong in the rear view mirror.
We lost by 19. Herman's biggest losing margin was 17.
Oh well, this was one game, right?

Sabre,
You have connections that I could only dream of. Would you be willing to elaborate a bit on these points?

I'm pretty sure we watched different games. We had something like 79 total offensive yards in the first half while the D was thrown to the wolves over and over. There are HUGE defensive problems, but they pale in comparison to how absolutely pathetic the entire offense performed.

Lot of stuff on this thread. I did not bother to read it so not responding to anyone, just my 2 cents.
We lost b/c pigs wanted it more. They were more intense and physical from first snap to last. They dominated line of scrimmage both ways. Game Over!
And their DC called an awesome game

We were out-coached while on offense.
We were pushed around on defense.

Card held on to the ball way too long. Ran into sacks against 3 man rush. Missed badly on open deep receivers. Showed very little pocket awareness and that was highlighted on his fumble. And looked generally hesitant and confused all night.

Dicker keeps getting referred to as one of the best kickers in CFB, except when you actually look at his numbers. Yeah, he missed a long one and punts out of necessity, but he is consistently inconsistent.

Denzel Okafor looks like his shoes are made of cement.

We had a 220lb (maybe) walkon LB with his hand on the dirt playing DE go ahead and call it LB/Buck but his hands were in the dirt and then his face was in the dirt over and over.

Our QB has a guy dive at his knees 4 seconds after a whistle and no OL does anything. Not even help him up forget about grabbing a mask or getting in a face.

D coordinator should have stacked the GD box, corners on the line of scrimmage and made them throw and throw more than 10 yards. Never, ever adjusted.

Sark should have known this was Arky super bowl and had them aware of what they were walking into. I'm sure it was "borderline erotic" up there. Seen this movie before.

Sark should have put CT in at half. Had the ball first, could have been a different game.

It was one game. Non conference. But man, that was a nut kicking **** show that just deflates any energy and momentum this program has. We have been in this wilderness for so long, it is hard to remember good. As someone else said 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

I didnt mean to overweight the D issues relative to O....Look at my post...I basically said O hung the D out by not being more productive. The D had issues either way. The O lack of production exasperated them and deserves at least half the blame if not more.

I don’t disagree about Card, but he’s only in his 2nd game,I won’t write him off yet. He needs an O-line and experience. But CT might be the better option right now. Two young inexperienced QB’s. Gonna be growing pains.

I'm not sure we totally disagree, and I am glad you brought this up to give me a chance to clarify.
I agree wholeheartedly about the offensive issues and the pressure it put on the D...I thought I mentioned that in my post - IDK maybe another thread.
My use of the "most disappointing " in regards to the defense was purely due to the fact that I couldn't believe...more than anything else that happened...that we didn't adjust our defensive scheme and response to what they were doing offensively. Looked to me like we were still employing a balanced run/pass or even overweighting pass D in late 3rd and into the 4th quarter even after it was apparent they were heavily reliant on the run. Seemed to me the offensive woes were more on performance, poise, and execution...all disappointing but not as mind boggling to me as the lack of defensive adjustment. .
Again, I agree the O put tons of pressure on the D and hung them out to dry...but the lack of adjustment on D left me bewildered...I weight that higher than disappointment..though not saying it was more important or relevant...just more bewildering to me.

Agree, and I’m not writing off Card either. He has big upside potential. We should still be a two QB team that plays both QB a lot. It’s just that Casey should be the first and Hudson the second for now—unless and until there’s some real game (not just practice) reason for that to change.
