ISIS looking at Southern border

The only reason ISIS would be involved in Mexico would be drug money. Their coffers are probably running thin considering how quickly they blew through their Mosul money.

So that begs the question: would they attack U.S. soil, or reap millions of dollars of benefits from the drugs and stay out of harm's way? You'd have to assume the Mexican government would prefer the latter.

I think ISIS is making money off oil.Sure they can always use more

but they also have a burning desire to beat the hell of out
oh wait got confused

ISIS has made it plain they want to terrorize us to show us they can.
and walking across the '"secure border " is a piece of cake for them.

So much exaggeration in this thread.

Didn't you guys hear that ISIS is just the JV?
Nothing to worry about here

Meanwhile, NPR has an article today titled: For Islamic State, Hitting The U.S. May Not Be A Top PriorityThe Link

Who thinks that ISIS wants an Afghanistan like response from the US should they reach out for an attack on American soil? That would end any hope of founding their Caliphate as the Taliban found out. For ISIS to achieve it's stated goals would be to continue to sabre rattle but minimize US involvement. Acting tough helps recruitment of anti-American idealists but any all-out war would effectively end ISIS.

Thank God that Obama is on top of this and will keep us safe.................

Time to invade a random country like...Malaysia. Create chaos there, so that all these awful terrorists from ME will go there for jihad! Then when we march into Kuala Lumpur, we'll be greeted with roses....

Or we can lay back in a zone, let's say 45 miles from the actual Southern border, and let them penetrate our defenses at will and not enforce when we are nearby the invaders.(home team gets routed by double digits, but lawns mowed cheap) /end tortured football/border policy analogy

Nothing a little golf and fundraising can't fix. I just hope some youtube video doesn't surface and create a riot at our embassy.

PasoTex, Do you feel objectively that the Southern border is effectively policed? Should we do more, less, or is it just about right? There are a lot of budget dollars in place. What should we do, if anything?

I think we spend way too much money on it, but indirectly I benefit from it so I guess it is all good. The border is far more "secure" now than it has ever been in my lifetime. Absent some sort of East German system, I do not know what you would want. I also wonder how much you want to spend because of the enormous length.

The wedge issue propaganda emanating from the Right this campaign season is impressive. The border is overrun (false) and now there are terrorists just waiting to get us (false). It is pure fear and hate mongering. The No-Nothings rise yet again.

I wonder what the Koch brothers have in mind for us next month?

This won't affect me. If it were up to me I would cut off the benefits, the incentives to come over. That would prove to be a disincentive to come illegally. Keep all of the benefits and incentives for the legal immigrants. Carrot for the legal behavior and stick for the illegal behavior. That is how I'd do it.

They are coming strictly for the free stuff. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

paso
I hope you don't believe that. There is so much evidence enforcement of our southern border is for all practical purposes non existent saying it is as it has been for what 30 years is something only BO or his sycophants would say.
AS border agenst have pointed out for months while they have been playing nanny to illegals kids and those illegals kids with gray hair who knows who was strolling in.
Only a fool would think no one took advantage of the lapse in coverage.

anyone think those boats bringing illegals to shore near San Diego brought only hard working people who only wanted to work hard in America and obey our laws?
anyone think those were the only 2 boats to have brought illegals here?

Mich
I am confused. I did say , " anyone think those were the only 2 boats to have brought illegals here? "
You understand my question, right?

I wonder what point you thought you were making when you posted the link detailing how long this has been going on.
Was it to show I was right is asking if anyone could possibly think those were the only 2 boats ever to sneak illegals in? if so, thank you
biggrin.gif

since the story with the phone cam of the boats letting off the illegals were on ABC NBC CNN NPR and Fox plus LAtimes DMW etc I think that story is close to common knowledge.

Since you evidently didn't know you at least researched it and now you do know.
That is a good thing.

Certainly that story alone shows the border is NOT more secure.

No it doesn't.

We have spent a fortune on the border in the last 15 years. The number of agents has doubled and the apprehensions are down because there is less not more illegal immigration. There are also fewer people going back home because it is so difficult to get back.

I live five miles from the border and am typing this about 3 miles from it. I used to work about 500 yards from it. The border is way more secure now than it has been in my lifetime. I bet I know more about the border than everyone else on this bbs combined. I lived on it for most of 51 years. I know plenty of illegal immigrants. I do not know any terrorists.

But we could spend way more on "securing" it in some East German fashion. It would be stupid and a waste even though I certainly would indirectly benefit.

How did the 9/11 terrorists get here?

Did they cross this porous horribly open border or just fly in with visas?

This "issue" is just yet another inane wedge issue brought to you by the Koch brothers and Faux News this election season. It was gay marriage before and now immigration. These things are getting more and more irrational and transparent.

I am, however, still waiting for the ISIS car bomb that Judicial Watch and the National Review promised me.

I'll say it again, does anyone think an ISIS attack on US soil would further their goal of establishing a Caliphate? An attack here would essentially end any chance of that happening, at least for Babki as the leader in that location.

This is a little like all the talk of Sadam Hussien partnering with Al Queda. It was irrational then just as it is now.

Is ISIS rational? I have no idea but spending an inordinate amount of resources to protect against irrational leaders when resources are limited doesn't make sense to me. To be clear, this is not Al Queda who didn't attempt to take and hold ground. The fact that ISIS wants to be a nation-state plays into our military advantage. They are building a target for us.

This way too reasonable a post for this bbs. Please take this to Quack or maybe somewhere else altogether.

Paso
the " border" is a bit longer than the entry points such as the one in El Paso
. do you really know and understand what is happening at points all along the 1100 mile border?

Take a trip east and south of EPaso ( south of I10 as well ) well ) speak to any rancher or land owner along the way ask them if the number of people crossing their land has decreased, any decrease in the destruction of their fences, water tanks, livestock killed trash left?
or stop at any sheriffs office, ask them if they think the border is more secure than ever
how about stopping in any hospital along the border, ask them if the number of illegals they treat and lose money on has decreased.
ask any working Border Agent if they think the border is more secure, The Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Agents alone report over 1,000 illegals are apprehended EACH DAY.
They estimate for every 1 they get 4 others make it. The violence the agents are dealing with has also increased.

Research what the National Border Patrol Council, a union of U.S. Border Patrol agents is reporting; more and more violent attacks on agents.
It very well may be true fewer are sneaking in near entry points. That doesn't make the border more secure.

Now show me if you can why YOU Paso say the border is the most secure it has been in your lifetime. If possible show credible sources other than the BO admin stats.

Who has more credibility? We know the BO admin has lied about the number of deportations done .

What do you think a union of Border Patrol Agents' goals would be? If we distilled it to a single goal what would it be? I'd argue the increase in it's membership would be the #1 goal or a narrow second to better compensation. That's what all unions want, IMHO.

How do you achieve that goal? Paint yourself as indispensable. Describe the solution as only achievable with greater numbers and higher pay...or funding.

BTW- This might be the first time I've seen a conservative site a union
as a source of facts. I'm sure there is some truth to their claims but there is always an ulterior motive.

Husker
You'd be wrong
Post anything from the NBCC ( border union) in the past few years that calls for increased members as their main goal.
if you have ever read anything from them then you'd know their focus has been for the safety of the agents as the agents are seeing more violence and attacks from the illegals.

I can understand why you'd have no real knowledge of what is going on but do not disparage the danger and frustration Border Agents are going through by implying the#1 goal is more members.
Oh and their second concern is what BO is doing that is causing the large increases in illegals. When you have a " if you can get here, you can stay here and get benefits policy you are shining a big green come on in light.

This is such a joke.

How much more money do you clowns want to spend on the border?

Are you willing to increase taxes to pay for it?
