Is there any realistic path for a Romney Victory?

here is a bipartisan political model projecting a Romney win of 5%. This is the 2nd one I have seen, the other one being the Colorado poll that got some press in August and in early October. The Colorado one will impress me greatly if it is right. They first said it back in August when Romney looked fairly unlikely to pose much threat to Obama. They reiterated in late September or Early October. Their poll predicts something like 75% likelihood. But here is the latest one:

New poll projects a Romney win

here is the Colorado one I mentioned:

Romney win will be substantial

i guess we will see if these models are correct. unlike global warming models, we get more immediate predictions don't we?

I have to add, after reading that the model was "retroactive" I am far less impressed. Should be interesting.

Those predictions are predicated on Romney winning Ohio. However, Obama's current lead there isn't within the polls' margins of error. I'm rooting for Romney, but I think he'll lose Ohio and thus the election. He will, however, win the popular vote.

Darius may be right. If Obama wins with less than a majority, it will not be good for him symbolically in a second term, although I will be consistent to what I said when Bush was in the same position, which is that you play by the rules listed. No one ever has an incentive to campaign in California and Texas, so we really don't know how much popular vote there could be out there that isn't really sought after.

Deez, you're right. I see today that Romney has pulled even or ahead in some Ohio polls. Man, win or lose, election night coverage will be spellbinding to watch. Democracy at its best.

In so many countries, even in many that pretend to hold free elections, succession of the chief executive is pre-ordained or decided by a handful of men, with little or no drama. I wonder if the rest of the world marvels at our system, amazed that the most powerful country in the world has no idea who will be selected as its next leader next week...or instead, if they think it's a crazy, dangerous, inefficient, godless way to choose supreme leaders.

"Whose dick would you eat if he carried a state that's actually considered out of reach for him?"

I was referring to the Colorado and "Weekly Standard" studies about electoral college changes. How they have Romney winning PA is beyond me... must be a coal/steel cartel or something. There's about a snowball's chance in hell he wins PA. I wasn't actually challenging Romney to win a state he shouldn't in order to eat my own dick.

If I had to choose the closest states outside of Ohio, it would probably be Colorado and Virginia. Having the first debate in CO was a huge stroke of genius/luck for the GOP. Nearly every Independent there will go GOP, and it's nearly enough to topple the left bourgeoisie from the Denver/Boulder area. 10 months ago I probably would have the same dick eating comment about CO. Now, I might be inclined to look up some deep fryer recipes for dick over Colorado.

Typically people vote their pocketbook - e.g., Reagan over Carter. If that's true this time Obama will win.

Hook'em!!!

That's why I'm surprised that Romney is actually faring so well with the polling data in Ohio. States like Iowa figure out where their bread is buttered (corn subsidies) and cling to it. With one in eight Ohio jobs directly linked to Obama's auto bailout, you'd think that you're either directly related to someone who got the benefit of it, or you at least know individuals who get the benefit. I think Obama will run that into the ground on the campaign this week. Ohio will come down to about 10K votes in my opinion, and if the "coal" votes of eastern/southern Ohio can outweigh the "auto" votes, Romney will pull it off.

To answer the original question, probably not. Mitt has gone back to his "tripping over his own dick" strategy with his criticism of Jeep sending jobs to China and his statements on FEMA.

Plus, Chris Christie is giving Obama some good props over the Sandy thing.

You don't think that Mitt has committed some pr/political blunders during this campaign? Blunders which sometimes are referred to as "tripping over your own dick"?

So you want to quibble over the wording and not the substance of Mitt's actions and the consequences of those actions?

Are you really this stupid and shallow?

Par for today's GOP, sad to say.

Sorry, stupid and shallow. I don't want to leave an opening for you to ignore my point and instead argue endlessly about some meaningless and inconsequential inconsistency.

mrD

You couldn't be wronger.
I won't go away. I will be disappointed but I won't go away.
