Horns - Pigs Game Thread

Let me some this up:
D:
Barron = Thorpe
Defense = Pretty F"ing Great
Collins = Making $$$

O:
Ewers = In a draft plunge ( I never want a another Pro - Style QB..., EVER!)

Sark = Not his best game as a OC ( Is it time?) just a question . Being HC and OC is NOT Easy.

Vertical passing game??? = It's either WR's not getting open or Quinn pretty much SUX at vertical ( last great pass was @ Bama....He had 2 GREAT WR's)

Today- Where is Bond? Where is Wingo? Where is Moore?

I wonder why we keep trying the deep ball. It's clear we can't hit it. Maybe just to keep 'em honest?

Our defense is the real deal. Held this arky offense to 10 points. I be am sure it’s their lowest yardage of the season.

And no one can stop our offense. But us.
Fortunately we got out of our own way just enough today.

Absolutely. The defense won the game today for the Longhorns. Give due credit to Arkansas - they came out inspired and ready to play, and their defense was much better than we expected. They caused the Texas offense a lot of problems. But credit to the Longhorn offense - they took what was available, and they didn't turn the ball over.

I get that, but let’s be candid:

QE’s performance today was poor for most of three quarters, and then “good” for one drive in the 4th. Given the way the offensive line played, this game should not have been close. And don’t forget what Mississippi did to this Arkansas defense.

If this was an aberration, I might be more forgiving. But it isn’t. He has been generally underperforming since Michigan, and the UTSA injury is no longer a reasonable excuse.

Even most of the people I know – that tend to bend over backwards to give Quinn the benefit of the doubt – are questioning him.

Maybe he’s the best quarterback this team has. But frankly, I’m not so sure. That’s why I would consider starting Arch next week. I get the disruption that could result, but outside of QE making a quantum leap in performance (an unrealistic expectation), I just don’t see QE getting this team – and this immensely talented offense – to the promised land.
I posted during the by that Sark should be putting in an Arch flavored scheme. He’s not interested. We are gonna sink on the SS Ewers. Too inconsistent. Whether it’s missing entire games or just halves. He’s too inconsistent. 16 seems to offer a higher percentage chance to win a playoff game.

RB's
We are fortunate to have Wiesner but it is interesting that 2 weeks in a row we went for it on 4th down and used a true freshman reserve-Gipson. That is a lot of trust and then we didn't see much of him the rest of the day (I know he lite it up at Florida)

Also- Blue. It seems he is the stronger and faster back and brings a lot of energy to the field. What does he do to get more carries. I know the fumbles are an issue-- but missed long balls are an issue with QB and we stick with him.

It seems we have some explosive backs that are not getting many caries.

"Wisner"

If Blue doesn't start getting more carries he's going to make another team really happy next year.

Even with all the emphasis on ball security, Jaydon fumbled again yesterday. He/we were fortunate that the ball went out of bounds. He has game changing talent, but his propensity to fumble is game changing too, and not in a good way.

@Chinstrap much respect your opinion. What am I missing?
I simply do not subscribe to quarteback carousels. I have seen them at the college and professional levels. They can create a lot of team unity issues and make things worse.

I am and always have been a big fan of QE and think his skillset is good for the game at this level. He has the throws needed. Texas has had a lot of good college type quarterbacks. And I believe in Sark’s judgement on this position more than mine. I also wonder why the q-back always catches the heat when there are 10 more positions.

I know that more astute posters will correct me but I think the “O” line is not getting it done. Someone needs to take the heat for this. Coaching, technique, physical condition??? And while we are at it, some play calling is dead on arrival. They need to stop reading press clippings about being the best “O” line and prove it by moving up the chart on run yardage. Coaches need to help with better game plans, assessment of the other players and then we can bench a qb. As for now, I will respect posters on this board but stand firm in the corner of QE.

I am concerned and puzzled by Ewers' apparent ineptitude at the deep ball. He seems to just heave it, with the result of a ball that is usually overthrown, to the wrong side of the receiver/coverage, or both.

Why does that happen? Poor footwork, not on the same page with receivers, arm strength issues resulting in overcompensation?

Is any of that coachable?

Ewers seemed to be accurate on the long ball against Alabama last season. This go round he seems to be just a tad off. Is it him, the OL, the receivers? I don’t know, but maybe he’s getting rid of the ball too soon knowing in the back of his mind he’s fixing to get hammered. Maybe it’s just mental. I still have hope he gets it right and the Horns continue winning!

Could be he is gunshy. He is pretty fragile and gets hurt pretty easy. He needs to work that out at the college level. They are faster and hit harder at the next level.

Kentucky probably will not be an easy win. They beat Ole Miss and should have beat Georgia.
Good point, Viper. IMO Texas can beat Kentucky with superior talent. The Horns defense is performing at a championship level and can stop Kentucky. The offense needs to do a serious review of the film from the Arkansas game - there are some real issues they need to address (like the OL).

Agree HHD. However, Texas has a history (not just this generation) of relying on superior talent leading to a loss.

Any loss in the next 3 games will hurt in the CFP seedings.

Ewers is fine as long as he has plenty of protection. Unfortunately our OL is not dominant over strong defenses.

Gotta disagree. The protection yesterday was excellent. The three sacks were all on QE, not the OL. And with that protection QE was inconsistent. Good at times. Not so good at others.

And think about this. How much easier is it to defend the run when the defense does not have to worry whatsoever about the quarterback running.
