Horns - Pigs Game Thread

I have really grown to like QE a lot. Even if he is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde. But I hope he lights it up against UK and ATM, and does not look back. Improves his draft status and takes us to the promised land along the way.

That said, if he doesn't, and If he considers returning, I hope Sark tells him QB1 is wide open, and he is going to have to clearly outplay Arch to remain the starter. And if its even close, he can probably expect to sit.
And hopefully that will be enough to keep Arch from portaling in the event that QE decides to stay anyway.

Just because I and others have criticized his lack of mobility, I think everyone likes him. I credit much of where the program is right now with Ewers transferring in and how he has handled himself.

This isn't the Manning family's first ordeal like this. Few remember that Brandon Stewart beat out Peyton to start at Tennessee. When Cut changed to Peyton, Brandon transferred aTm, where QBs & pitchers go to end their careers.

I wouldn't be surprised if QE finished his career here with a L in the Playoff, and then shows up at Ole Miss or somewhere comparable next season.

I don't believe we have enough good graces saved up in the tank to allow him to return, continue to play at this level, and throw Arch to another team. If he were "guaranteed" some kind of improvement, I think everyone would be fine with it. Lacey and Bell are solid players, and both seem to be more mobile than QE. Following up QE with one of them could be handled in a sensitive way.

But losing Arch would be the "portal hell" stupid loss of a lifetime. Like, way worse than Gabriel or Nix to UO. Because of that, I'm fine with QE walking.

Don’t you think we need to let the transition plan in the quarterback room play itself out? Miami was quarteback u in the ‘80’s with Kelly, Kosar, Testeverde, etc. It was a classic case of succession planning.
Fans with their hair on fire need to let Sark work his plan.

Thleiofx-Wash your mouth out with soap and stand in the corner for even bringing that up. You just ruined a good day.

I predict he comes back for his senior season.
I tend to agree with the posters who say he won't. If QE were to come back for another season, that would almost certainly run Arch somewhere else - and besides losing the time invested in Arch, it would send a terrible message to future potential recruits. I think Arch is the man starting next season.

The problem with Ewers is between his ears. He lacks moxie. Seems like he doesnt completely believe in himself so he holds back and relys on reserved ability. Wish he had that spit and vinegar and mean streak to get the job done to go along with being cerebral.
Often times i am wishing for Manning to get in. I want to see if he has that spit and vinegar to be the man.
All need to watch the last td with about 9 minutes left. Rolls right
and throws a bullet to the receiver at the pylon. Not many can make that throw. Perfect!
I do wonder why they do not roll him out more. I talk to Sark on the tv and call for that play quite often. Love a pass or run option, especially in the red zone.
Perhaps one of you can have Sark give me a call.

Chin,

One reason Sark doesn't roll him out more is our lack of a RT. More often than not, Ewers would have a defender in his face, or if it's right, catching him from behind.

I was told QE was the second coming of Mahomes, and could make all the throws in HS. I sometimes question his eyesight.

It feels to me like folks are twisting themselves into a pretzel, making excuses for Quinn. I just watched a YouTube video in which Rod Babers did just that. Our eyes don’t lie. His play is uneven and highly inconsistent, and his performance this year has been (on balance) mediocre.

His performance has not been at a level that can take us deep into the playoffs, or perhaps even get us there. Might he ball out the next two games? That’s a lot to hope for based on what we have seen. If he does, sure, I’ll be thrilled.

I like the kid and I wish him the best. And indeed, he has had great moments. But for most of this season he has not been reliable.

Next year? No way this program can toy with the future, and a meal ticket like Arch Manning.

Ewers makes just enough throws like this that he is going to get one nfl gm to fall in love with those throws and get fired (not one named Jerrah) for selecting him way to high. His injury issues alone will make him a late second or third round selection. I think that Ewers will be a quality backup in the nfl for a long time like Colt and maybe Sam if he ever gets out of Indy.

The right side of the line is a definite liability but it seemed better when they replaced Campbell. Probably all but one or two of the sacks attributed to Banks were on Ewers inability to navigate the pocket. Burrows was a master of this at Lsu and I thought Ewers was developing some of this early in the season, but the injury derailed that and the hit he took on the delayed blitz by Georgia ended any thought of his pocket presence developing.

I’m sure there’s enough money in the bank to get Quinn some Wild thing glasses!

I think Sark would be honest with him. If Sark thought another year at college level would help Quinn he'd tell him. I don't think it will be another year at Texas.

Except Ohio State?
He might bleed burnt orange but I think when it comes down to it he and his family are pretty business-like and mind the bottom line.
Not saying you are wrong, but if comes down to NIL, LSU has to top the list, followed by FSU & maybe Ole Miss.

I think QE is burnt orange. I don't see him going elsewhere on his own accord.
Bench me and I am gone. The benching is a black eye that only playing time in another offense can overcome. A last year quarterback can’t let that go. Hello Oregon. Seems to be working for that player.

Seems to me a next stop for any unwanted Longhorn might be Ol Miss. That program is going in the right direction and Oxford (home place of William Faulkner) seems to be a pretty good college town. I always enjoyed my business travels to Oxford.

No twisting here. I have been a fan since I first saw him in burnt orange. Having said that, Babers knows more football than me.

You know more! Makes sense.
