Hells Kitchen anyone??

I like Ramsey, but don't understand the point of this show. Why cast people who can't cook and aren't photogenic in a tv cooking show? Were these the only 12 candidates to apply?

Am I the only person who thinks Jen is incredibly annoying? I don't understand how anyone can stand to be around her.

GOTJ, you may be right, and I concidered that... that said, he does seem to genuinely dislike Ben.

Of the guys, Bobby is the only one witht he experience. Petrozza is the only one who really seems to want it. I just don't know what to make of Ben, he's had two mediocre services in a row. He isn't a dumbass, which is nice, but he doesn't seem to have it compeltely together either.

I think the general level of competence on the girl's side is higher than on the guys, but no one really stands out. Corey may be a *****, but I think she is the only one on the whole team who has the force of will to command a kitchen full of people far more talented than she is... which is, of course, going to be the outcome regardless of who wins.

If the cast wasn't so lame or the prize wasn't so big, I think this would be a better show. Ramsey is a legit chef and restauranteur, Fox's insistance the he play the heavy against a bunch of rubes demeans both him and the show. I enjoy the show, but I can't help but thinking that it would really easy to turn it from freakshow into something really interesting.

but let's be honest here...the point of the show is for ramsey to have people to yell and scream at. I guarantee you that the show would not get as good ratings as it does if Ramsey was more subdued or if it turned into a real cooking contest. leave that **** for bravo and other specialty networks.

the american public likes to see people get yelled at (especially when it's not them). and that's what ramsey and HK are providing. not too much more...

No one was eliminated lastnight but Vanessa chose to leave Hells Kitchen due to her hand injury. IMO, big mistake on both the women and mens picking Christina and Louross off to leave Hells Kitchen..those two are definately NOT the weakest links in the kitchen..

HI, I agree they weren't the weakest (I think Rosane and Matt, clearly are at this point), but I'm not sure if they are far behind.

At this point for the girls we've got Jen, Corey, Christina, Rosane, and the other chick... and I would probably rate them in that order (with "the other chick" getting an incomplete, because we just haven't seen much of her... though maybe that alone should put her in the front of the pack). For the guys, we have Bobby, Ben, Petrozza, Louross and Matt... again in that order (though in fairness, the boys in the middle seem to be about the same level).

As for the "challange", I kind of thought the purpose of the exercise was to make a pizza that was worth paying $200 for. While the girls won because Ben didn't clean his mushrooms well enough... I still don't see what's so interesting about sun dried tomatoes and balsamic. I think I could get that very pizza delivered by an austin teen in the next twenty minutes. I thought the guys did a much better job of answering the "upscale" part of the challenge, even if they delivered a sloppy sampler. If I put both items on a menu, I would price them at least $20 different if not more.

Bobby is finally stepping up in the kitchen, though I don't know why it took him this long to realize that it is better to take a person's station than to let them fail outright... either way they look stupid, but if he jumped in then he gets bonus. Ben is pretty hit and miss but today was overall a good day. Louross just had a bad day, but his acting like a baby about it was not very redeeming. Petrozza knows how to survive in a kitchen, but I'm not sure if he can lead one. Matt is just terrible. He can't hold down his station, and his palate seems to be completely off when he is forced to innovate.

Jen is a consistant performer, but I don't know if he she has the other gear she is going to need to close. Corey is clearly sand bagging, so she better have something up her sleeve. Christina is giving it her all and struggling, so I have to think that she can't keep this up forever. Rosane isn't very good, seemingly at anything. The other girl is, if nothing else, forgettable.

Texas007, I get it on TiVo and then skip the cold open and the challenge-reward. I watch the challenge and the service, and scan the challenge-punishment to see if anything relevent happens. (obviously, not in that order)

Point being, I'm not nearly as grated by Jen as you seem to be. Seems like I'm skipping the right parts.

Most of the people of the contestants on this show are really annoying. Jen manages to stand out though. I think the men vs. women aspect is bringing out the worst in all of them.

Stabone, you can mock it all you want, but if you actually sat down and gave the show a chance you would realize it is far worse than you think it is.

I'm not proud.

Okay..here it goes..lastnights episode was blah..i was lil bored but Chef Ramsay made the right decision by eliminating Shayna...Matt FINALLY grew some balls and stuck up for himself against his teammates...Next weeks episode should be interesting since Ramsay put him on the red team, the womens team...He'll probably do better there but we'll see because the women werent too happy about him joining their team...Eventhough we still have weeks ahead of us before the winner is chosen, in my opinion, I think Louross and Jen are both the strongest links in the kitchen so far..

It's a shame that Cory ***** isn't half as hot as she thinks she is. This is the cigarette-smokingest batch they have ever had.

Of the three that stepped forward, I thought Shayna deserved to go home the least... though it doesn't really matter, because all three of them are going home soon anyway. Shayna got kicked off because she lacks kitchen sense, which is reason enough. Matt, however, can't stand up for himself which is probably a good thing because he sucks. His palate is terrible and he can't cook Ramsay's menu. His teammates don't respect him for a reason, he is God awful. That said, as bad as he was, Rosana had a worse day. Matt got kicked off his station by Bobby for messing up their VIP's order twice. Rosana did the same thing and then lost her station to Ramsay himself. If Matt was supposed to stand up for his station to Bobby, then Rosana damn sure should have as well. Ramsay isn't a contestant and had no business cooking anything. If what she was doing was bad enough for him to have to step in, then she should have been kicked off on the spot.

I think Louross is probably the better cook but Petrozza has loads more experience and is the better line chef. Both are inconsistant enough that I don't think either can win, but I'd bet Petrozza lasts longer. I'm still not sure what to make of Ben, he is just so hit and miss. That said, he had a good night (in as much as we didn't see him) so more power to him. Bobby is still the man to beat in the blue kitchen. He is a bit of a prick, but if he acts superior it is because he is. He seldom screws up his tasks, he is efficient and assertive. Matt got slamed for rolling over, but Bobby made the right call kicking him off his station. This team is better for Matt's leaving regardless of what happens next week.

As for the girls, no one is standing out. Jen is clearly the best line chef of the group, but that doesn't necessarily make her a good executive chef. Corey and Christina are equals on the line, but Corey is a little more graceful and less antsy. Chrisitina always feels like she is scrambling to me, while Corey seems more confident. While Corey is not respected by her teammates, I suspect she outlasts Christina. That leaves Rosana... who is just not very good. She isn't as bad as Matt, but she is clearly not prepared for this job.

I would probably rank the remaining chefs thusly:
--Bobby
--Jen
--Corey/Ben/Petrozza
--Christina/Louross
--Rosana
--Matt

At first I though Bobby was more talk than ability, but he's stepped up and is the best of the bunch. I don't blame him for stepping in for Matt because he can't cook for ****. I think Jen's mouth is going to be her undoing. She doesn't know when to shut up. Her habit of always having the last word is going to catch up to her.

Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (British version) and The F-Word (both on BBC-America) are excellent television if you like Gordon Ramsay.

Bad night for everyone 'cept Corey, Christina and Matt... and maybe Louross. I think we can put to bed the idea that Ramsay was "grooming" Ben. He had a bad night again and deserved to go home. Once again, I think Rosana was the worst one in either kitchen.

I think Matt is a better cook than he's been given credit for, but he's such a wimp, he needs his hand held constantly.

Okay, so Ben was voted off, about time! Louross is a punk but i love his attitude..Petrozza surprised me by nominating himself for elimination..Bobby needs to go, he is someone I dont want working for me in the kitchen at all..As for the women side, Matt held his own but i think he'll be eliminated later on..Corey is starting to annoy me, she's a backstabber..I think her and Rosann needs to go..Jen is mouthy and cocky but i like her..but then again, this is hells kitchen and anything can happen..Chef Ramsay, i think, has been eliminating the right people off the show so far...

I decided to do some research on the contestants and check their resumes. While my gut feeling was confirmed that everyone was grossly underqualified for the job they were competing for, I did find some interesting stuff.

Bobby Anderson - Though listed as an "Exec Chef" on the show, it seems as though his current job is "Prepared Foods Manager" at a local Wegmans'. The article does indicate restaurant experience (local unnamed restaurants) but also says he cut his chops working the kitchen at a "Comfort Inn"... nice. This is actually an article which paints Bobby with a pretty likable brush, though. He does seem fairly tied into the community.

Matt Segil - Listed as a "Sous Chef" on the show, Matt works at a gourmet pizza restaurant off of Highway 73 in New Jersey. This does beg the question of why he wasn't paid more attention to in the pizza challenge from earlier this season. Though it was worth noting that we did see Ben try Matt's pizza and he spit it out.

Louis Petrozza - Listed as a "Catering Director" from Charlotte NC, he apparently holds that title at Winthrop University and is paid by ARAMARK (ouch). At 47, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he has worked in more than a few restaurants in his time.

Louross Edralin - Listed as "Hotel Cook" from Las Vegas, his MySpace page indicates that restaurant it is the Ritz Carlton in Lake Las Vegas. This is actually a pretty good gig for a 24 year old, and depending on what he does there that could mean something in the "fine dining" catagory as well as "restaurant" catagory. That said, if he is just working room service neither necessarily applies.

Jennifer Gavin is listed as "Line Cook" on HK, but her MySpace page indicates she is the Executive chef at "Catered excellence" in Chicago... which is apparently a catering company she owns. If you can believe her myspace page, she has real fine dining experience as well as european training, which puts her in a special place amoungst the contestants. I would guess if her experience is as good as she indicates, then HK would have upsold her more, but who knows, maybe they are sandbagging her.

Corey Earling - is listed as "private chef" from Brooklyn. I can't seem to find much on her resume. Private Chef doesn't give much to work with.

Christina Machamer - is listed as "culinary student". A bio from STLtoday indicates that she was a student at the CIA in NY and afterward worked at the restaurant Liluma. She is certainly on the right track (hell's kitchen withstanding) for a career in fine dining.

Rosann Fama - is listed as "receptionist and former cook", I didn't feel the need to elaborate on a resume as fine as hers. I did try to find out where she was a "cook", but didn't come up with anything.

Very interesting there mia! Thanks for posting! After watching last night, I'd have to say Ben getting the boot was the right choice. Rosana is REAL close to being the next one! Btw, did anyone catch the glimpse of next week's episode when someone obviously cuts themself and there are 2 food critics there?

Jen went to the blue/guys team since Ben got booted. In the challenge, they had 20 food items they had to use, but could only use it one time, but had to use all of them. The blue team would have won if LouRoss put the veal on his plate, but since he didn't, they lost. Matt cut off the tip of his finger during the challenge also. Needless to say, Jen was bitching under her breath about LouRoss messing up the entire time, but the blue team beat the Red team in the dinner service. They had 2 food critics out on the floor, and they both liked the blue over the red. Ramsay actually kicked the red team out of the kitchen before the end of the service. Rosana got kicked off. Next episode looks to be real intense with Jen on the guys team. Doesn't seem like they are liking her much now either. Elimination is going to be a surprise too!

I didn't see last night either, unfortunately. I watch on TiVo which can only record two shows at once. Reaper and NCIS (2 hours) conflicted, and HK got bumped. I didn't put two and two together until you mentioned it. Thanks for the update NativeChic.
