For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

We do...and much of it is our fault.
But....do you ever get the feeling people just hate us??
Of course they hate us. In the Tx-Ark game in '69, I was SONAR school in San Diego watching the game in our barracks. There were about 20-25 others and all of them were rooting for Ark, including another Texan. He was a fan of aggie. They not only rooted for them, they ragged on me. After the game, they congratulated me; but repeated the whole thing almost a month later.

for the sake of discussion lets say that UM will not come because of health reasons, etc. NOT because of anything negative about UT, but because UM is not in a good place to take on the 24/7 grind of big time coaching.

How about looking for a young coach who has had surprising success in a power 5 conference, consistently beating big time football schools that recruit 4 and 5 star players while he's coaching kids ranked 2 or 3 stars. His school was never a football first school. More a lean to BB.
This coach is not a prick, not arrogant, shows class and humility; gets the best from his team, and is clean. He builds scheme around talent. Puts kids in a position to succeed.
I would imagine he could easily match TH's recruiting classes here. I know he would exceed TH"s success on the field. He can beat OU.
You've probably guessed that my second choice, after UM, is Matt Campbell. Besides possessing the qualities named above, he is hungry. And his players like him; he gets their best every week.
He recruits the big uglies and hires assistants that coach them up. His O and D lines are effective, disciplined and well coached. I think he would relate well to Texas HS coaches. Like I said, he's humble and classy.
I don't think Texas is too big a stage for him. I think he's ascending. I'd pick him over Mullin. Sarkisian, etc.

All this being said, I don't think Campbell is getting a second look from the decision makers here. Campbell will be hired at a bigtime school within a year or two.

I like Campbell, but I'd take Mullen over him in a second. But why would Mullen leave Florida for Texas? We don't offer anything Florida can't and he gets to compete in a much more stable conference.

I’m a big Matt Campbell fan. Terrific demeanor and the ability to win with inferior talent. That’s a very big deal.

Darrell Royal wasn’t great until he had the opportunity at the right venue. I wonder if maybe, just maybe, Campbell could have a similar, unexpected type of success at Texas.

I like Campbell also, but he has Big 10 written all over him. I bet he’s looking more towards the North and East for his next gig. I’ve mentioned another coach who has repeatedly kicked the snot out of the big boys in this conference with grossly inferior talent (much less than what Campbell has had to work with).

The way things are going, if Meyer turns us down we may end up with Yurcich as an interim coach. Better than the status quo I suppose.

Hope I am wrong, but like LC I got a bad feeling about UM coming to UT.

Somehow, like the Saban courtship after Mack, something will go wrong OR I won't rule out Meyer just enjoyed the massive sports media attention and at the end just says no.

if you replace juggernaut with cesspool, then I agree.
Cesspool. Hmmm

his last three years were 11-2, 11-2, and 10-3 at Baylor with two Big 12 championships, the same number of championships we here at UT have had in 25 years. A Heisman, a new stadium—all from a backward town and a school with no football history to speak of.

You can hate on the guy with every good reason, but Briles’ on-the-field coaching was phenomenal.

Other than Meyer, Saban, and Swinney who has?

Nobody living other than Bob Stoops. Kyle Shanahan & Pete Carroll depending on you point of view.

As stated above, Art Briles accomplished a lot and is a great gameday coach, but has more baggage than Southwest Airlines.

Never in a million years would I hire Art Briles. Down the maybe Kendall. Who's your choice?
