There is an old saying that goes like this - "If you're not a liberal at age 25, you have no heart; if you're not a conservative at age 35, you have no brain." We'll see how these youngsters change as they start having families and paying bills.
Twitter is just a cesspool.
The real story of this election? The turnout was significantly down across the board. Trump wouldn't have beaten McCain or Romney. For that matter, Hillary would have struggled.
Total votes cast in POTUS elections:
2016: 126,061,003 (Google)
2012: 128,768,072 (Wikipedia)
2008: 131,071,135 (Wikipedia)
That's a sad story about voter turnout.
here is a better one, by half
you dont even need audio to know what reason they gave
Let's see; racism, misogyny, hate, homophobia, islamophobia... what am I missing.
I don't think it's sad, because I don't think it's inherently good to have high turnout. It depends on what's causing the high turnout or low turnout.
However, this certainly is the real story, and I think it's indicative of how turned off the electorate was and how uninspiring Hillary Clinton was compared to Obama. She got 9 million fewer votes than he did in 2008 and about 5.4 million fewer than he got in 2012. That is huge. Trump ended up getting fewer than Romney did, but it was a much smaller difference - about 900k.
I wonder how many empty liquor bottles they are going to find.
Excellent observation, Seattle Husker. It will be interesting to analyze the final stats when available. My guess - (1) dislike of both candidates, (2) Hillary's feeling that she was "entitled" to win, (3) her negative campaign, full of reasons not to vote for Trump, but empty on reasons to vote for her, and (4) assuming she would hold the Obama states easily (discounting the anti-establishment vote). It's also possible that a fairly large numbers of likely Clinton voters just assumed that she would win and didn't bother to vote. It's certainly a statement that HRC was very uninspiring. What is sad is that less people are voting which could be translated to a disgust with the political process. The reduction of 5M voters is compounded by the fact that the there volume of eligible voters has increased over that time.
I'll look forward to the post election analysis. What was the reason that voters chose to stay home? Apathy? Dislike of the major candidates?
