Death toll in Texas elementary school; 18 children, 2 adults killed

Dude can't buy a Coors Premium tall boy but he can buy two AR-15's and a **** ton of ammo.
Phew! Thank Gawd no 18 year olds are getting their hands and lips on Coors Premium tall boys because of the drinking age laws!

Tighter gun laws would Shirley have the same effect. :rolleyes1:

If I had to guess, juvenile records are sealed and thus not available when a background check is done. That's just a guess though.
Also, just because police are called out it doesn't mean he was arrested. If he was not arrested then there would not be any flags on his background check.

Military age 18 can get their hands on real assault weapons and yet no beer . Seems strange but there it is

It doesn't seem like he was arrested but apparently the police had been there several times
Seems like a flag

I’m glad we have laws that prevent 18 years olds from drinking beer. Imagine if a 18 year old ever tried to drink beer. Nobody ever broke that law.

18 year olds wanting to drink want to get drunk. Therefore, they are more of a risk to crash and kill people driving drunk. Should there be no age limit?

18 year olds, 99.9999% want a rifle for hunting/protection. How many are obtaining them to commit heinous acts like this?

What a stupid argument. But, as I said, predictable thread.

Not that familiar with what causes a flag but we know for sure he was able to pass two background checks so he had no flags. Perhaps juvenile records being sealed is the reason as someone else said earlier. I just don't think modifying or expanding a failed system is going to matter one way or another. If someone wants to commit a mass murder, do we really think they will not be willing to obtain a gun through illegal channels.

Adriana Reyes Salvador Ramos mother denies toxic relationship with son

Salvador Ramos cut his face for fun, would shoot people with BB gun—friend

The shooter's mom (below) looks rather young for having an 18 year old son. Some reports I've read (unconfirmed, nothing official) indicate that Ramos may left his mom to go live with his grandparents...

His mom insists that "he wasn't a violent person"... (at least not until yesterday...!)

Another report from a friend/acquaintance said Ramos intentionally and repeatedly cut himself on his face.

And apparently, Ramos was one of those arseholes who would go around and shoot people from afar with a bb gun.

"The parent downplayed reports she had a toxic relationship with her son that may have warped the teen’s personality. She continued: ‘I had a good relationship with him. He kept to himself; he didn’t have many friends.’ "

She would spawn the most notorious murderer in South Texas.

I've known a few former juvenile delinquents who turned out to be good and responsible law-abiding adults. But it seems that the sort of kid who goes around shooting people with a bb gun, like the sort of kid who tortures and burns cats to death, is more likely than not to just get worse-and-worse with age.

There are probably 100’s of thousands current police officers who would gladly leave the police force for a straight job at schools for the same money. They would need to undergo psychiatric examination and extensive background checks. But the key is also creating a multi layered defense system that begins with a secure gate far from the school entrance where any unauthorized breach results in the other points of entry going on secure shutdown.

A couple of people question how to pay for it. I would start by cutting the bloated costs with school district administration.

I wish you were correct , I really do. My wife had to leave teaching last November because she was jumped from behind by a 6th grader. DISD has their own cops on campus but it didn't keep him from hurting a teacher that weighs 114#.

Bad kids do bad ****. People need to understand that much

My wife came out of retirement to "help" kids that really need it. She didn't need the salary, but wanted to help and knew there was a shortage. That attack opened my eyes to the problem. In DISDs case it's lack of enforcement. The kid is a problem and gets off easy every time

As far as cutting the costs of bloated administrations,.. again I'm with you, but it won't happen. Neither you nor I can cause change in that regard. We can kill CRT, etc but we can't run their budgets for them. This month Bullard and another nearby ISD had 100mm bonds approved. It's out of hand, and no one can hold these people accountable.

Mental health is the issue. No one will address it. ISDs will just use this tragedy to stuff their pockets that much more. Take away their overblown budgets and things may get back on the right path but that's not happening any day soon. Even here

Now do it for documented voter fraud.

Nobody's trying to violate anyone's constitutional rights to stop voter fraud. Your people are trying to make everyone who respects the Second Amendment take ownership of the acts of crazy and evil people that you all have no plan to stop.

When I was 18 and stationed at Ft Hood I said basically the same thing. I was old enough to die for and kill for my country, but not old enough to drink a beer. Odd.

What a stupid blanket statement.

A little hyperbolic but public schools aren't what they used to be. At least when I was growing up we weren't told we were bad for being white or being told it was ok if we felt like we were in the wrong body, in elementary school no less.

Now, that is a better way to state it than saying I need a background check.

I was watching an early morning lib show. A guest explained the new strategy of implementing gun safety versus gun control. Magically throughout the day, that was the narrative.

There are such horrifying accounts out there I hope aren't true
We need to wait for a complete investigation
For instance the Dept of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw said it was within 40 minutes from when the murderer opened fire and the Border agent got him.
40 minutes? We know there were 3 armed police that shot at him before he went into building but couldn't stop him.
How can any of those parents cope? Prayers forthem all

More proof that I don't believe armed rent a cops on campus are the answer.
