The gunman in the deadliest school shooting in Texas history bought two AR-style rifles legally just after his 18th birthday — days before his assault on Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.
He legally purchased two AR platform rifles from a federally licensed gun store on two days: May 17 — just a day after his birthday — and May 20, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said, according to a briefing that state Sen. John Whitmire, chair of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee, received from state authorities late Tuesday. The gunman bought 375 rounds of 5.56-caliber ammunition on May 18.
Now do BetoGreg Abbott is getting out in front on this deal: He is set to propose providing body armor for all primary school kids (if the feds will fund it) and fully automatic weapons for all teachers. That way when one of these nuts goes to school to kill, his fire will be returned promptly and no more than five or six kids will get killed before he goes down. Maybe eight, tops.
Now do Beto
We could pay for a lot of officers with the artificial turf fields that we have throughout the US.There are probably 100’s of thousands current police officers who would gladly leave the police force for a straight job at schools for the same money. They would need to undergo psychiatric examination and extensive background checks. But the key is also creating a multi layered defense system that begins with a secure gate far from the school entrance where any unauthorized breach results in the other points of entry going on secure shutdown.
A couple of people question how to pay for it. I would start by cutting the bloated costs with school district administration.
Almost got it. You forget:Beto has a sure fire plan: first, repeal the 2nd Amendment, then issue a presidential fiat instructing the ATF to seize all firearms that are not bolt action or can handle more than three rounds, then make everybody spend five minutes a day embracing somebody they don't like for whatever reason, then make them follow that up by singing KUMBAYA off key for five minutes, then light votive candles for George Floyd, then describe Salvador Ramos as a white supremacist and then........I dunno, whatever else the nutcase can come up with. The gubernatorial election in the fall is going to see Huisache cast yet another blank ballot.
Yikes, I left one thing out: after all that, seize all the bolt action weapons
Yes, fatherless child with mom on drugs. Bullied. When do we look into the murderer? Were signs ignored as they were in other cases?
You're not wrong. However, I think sentiments such as this allow the perfect to be the enemy of the good. Things like universal background checks, increasingly criminalizing the illegal owning of firearms, red flag laws, etc. can make an impact. Doing nothing but arming more people will only lead to more dead people. I think that's fairly clear now. The last two mass casualty events saw the good guys with the guns not having an impact.
Hey, thoughts and prayers...Actually, failing to punish and stop bad guys lead to more dead people. As horrible as this incident is, it's minor compared to the murders that take place all over the country every day that gun control advocates largely don't give a **** about. This is all self-serving political hackism and nothing more.
Hey, thoughts and prayers...
You reminded me why I had you on ignore.Hey, thoughts and prayers...
Rock on! I'd ignore me too.You reminded me why I had you on ignore.
So it is weakening the law abiding to require more of them to own a firearm than to take sudafed? Thoughts and prayers indeed!Think, pray, and do something, but "something" shouldn't be weakening the law abiding.
The shooter passed TWO background checks when he purchased these guns from a federally licensed gun shop. Your proposal of a Universal background check would have clearly been ineffective. So it is weakening the law abiding to require more of them to own a firearm than to take sudafed? Maybe we need to recalibrate the background checks. The shooter passed TWO background checks when he purchased these guns from a federally licensed gun shop. Your proposal of a Universal background check would have clearly been ineffective.
Outstanding question, good sir! There were 8 police sent to his Mother's house when he still lived there as he was fighting with his mom. That wasn't the first time police were called on him
How did he pass 2 background checks?
Dude can't buy a Coors Premium tall boy but he can buy two AR-15's and a **** ton of ammo. What do you want to require of them that wasn't required of the shooter?
If I had to guess, juvenile records are sealed and thus not available when a background check is done. That's just a guess though. There were 8 police sent to his Mother's house when he still lived there as he was fighting with his mom. That wasn't the first time police were called on him
How did he pass 2 background checks?
