Coronavirus

My wife has a friend whose significant other was a man in his mid 50s in fairly poor health his whole life. They lived in the DFW area. He unexpectedly died “of the flu with pneumonia” one night shortly before Christmas. He got sick, was quickly hospitalized, and the next thing you know he’s dead. Everybody thought it was strange at the time. This was before we knew of the coronavirus. Could be flu/pneumonia, could be Coronavirus...?
That is tragic. I’m sorry for that families loss. But there are many things that have caused someone to die yet we still risk it for our Families and Countries sake. I was just saying let’s not outlaw working for a living over this virus!
I’m more worried about our economy than my own health right now.

Gods in control of me. No virus will take over Gods will. If it’s my time it’s my time.

Very similar with a friend of my wife. I don’t recall the date but it was late 2019. She was probably in her early-mid 70s, just suddenly got sick, diagnosed with pneumonia, and died a few days later.

Hang in there HIC. We’re all in this together.
I’m up now, feel like **** but we’re taking our Beagle for a walk!

I read allergies and swelling in the Eustachian tubes can cause lack of taste and smell.
Very true, but unfortunately, seems funny to say that, I don't have much congestion to speak of. And, that would not normally cause it to last this long.

I have an otolaryngologist friend who says a viral cause of anosmia can last a few weeks. Ugh....

I'd guess 30k US. I worry about what happens when it rolls through the homeless populations, prisons, ghetto, etc. It seems like when it clusters it gets stronger.

For those of you potentially with it I watched a completely unverified video claiming that ibuprofen like products make it much worse. So, tylenol.
Same model predicts 5900 deaths in Texas. We are currently at 26. Model may be more accurate in dense cities, etc.

A nurse that works for me has a mother who's a small town primary care NP. She documented about 140 cases that were negative for flu A and B yet flu-like symptoms. She had it herself. She had a student with her that helped her document it. She's trying to figure out a way to run some s/p blood tests to see if she can find some kind of marker. Interesting.
She will have to wait until the blood tests are available to check for antibodies. Obviously if you have the antibodies, you don’t need the vaccine.

MC & HIC,

One problem I see in major metropolitan areas is the elected official$ are selecting the "profe$$ional$" doing the te$ting. There are te$ting center$ I wouldn't tru$t to take my temperature. I am advising friends and family to choose your testing site carefully, research their background, and refuse those that may have been handpicked for political rea$on$.

I think another side effect of a quarantine for 30 days will be overall health of middle age and older Americans who do exercise in gyms. I work out everyday. Either walk three miles on a treadmill or lift weights at a gym. I’ve found it really difficult to get the same workout outside. Being healthy is a key to defeating viruses like this.

Completely agree on being healthy as being good prevention

24 yrs ago I decided to go the home gym route instead of driving to the gym. Long commute was my reason at the time, but I don't miss the gym... esp now. Squat rack, bench, weights, spin bike and an old reliable x country Nordic trac ski machine. Takes up an entire bedroom in the house. Had to bargain with my wife on that one. The dog had to sleep in my weight room for me to claim it :smile1:

Academy was having a sale on squat racks last month. Pretty good deals, about the same price I bought mine from BusyBodies back in '96. Good investment in times like this

ETA, good outdoors workout routine (in lieu of weights) is push ups , pull ups, sit ups. This, per the old Herschel Walker and Robert Conrad interviews :)
sometimes simple is best

New Orleans mayor blames Trump for the epidemic in her city. Just like in NY, poor leadership from democrats are causing epicenters for this disease but they want to pass the blame. Mayor, you should have known holding Mardi Gras in this environment was a bad idea. You own it. The mayor of coronavirus-plagued New Orleans took a shot at Trump, saying the city would have canceled Mardi Gras if the federal government had taken the outbreak seriously

My wife and I just saw her interview on FOX, the mayor is no leader. Asked> if she knew then what she knows now, would she have cancelled MG?

Her answer - diatribe on Trump. Didn't give an honest or intelligent answer. Yes or no would have sufficed, maybe give reasoning for the decision

Same. Feel fine. No taste or smell...still. 5 days now. Beginning to wonder if they will come back. Pretty depressing....

Thank you for checking.
***UPDATE***

About 30 minutes ago I noticed a slight odor of something in the air! No false alarm for today. Sense of smell is slowly returning!

Mrs. horninchicago is making a pot of Community as we speak @SabreHorn.

I do P90X and Insanity at home. May be partly why at 51 I have pretty good lung capacity.

My neice who is a nurse got tested one week ago when she wasn’t feeling well. Sample sent to CA - hasn’t heard back since. Meanwhile she is in 14 day quarantine.

Tylenol’s working OU Bubba thanks for posting about that!
I want to nominate @OUBubba for the Hornfans Courage Award (I just made that up)

For sticking around in the face of unrelenting fan smack, political abuse, trailer jokes, and all manner of aggressive Sooner-bashing. Few would dare walk this treacherous path.

German death rate is 0.7%. Likely <0.1% when undetected folks are included. Thus,
fatalities are similar to a bad flu. But flu doesn’t have asymptotic cases like coronavirus. So, similar morbidity as flu but more contagious, particularly with no vaccine available. Added together, coronavirus has a greater chance of overwhelming healthcare facilities. Basically, a bad flu that is more contagious.
