Coronavirus

Oh so if Obama was president right now there would be zero cases in the US?
No. But he would listen to the experts and not say stupid stuff. I’m sure armchair quarterbacking can find things he did poorly with swine or Ebola. That said he started up a pandemic arm of the NSC. Trump killed it in 2018.

Travel from Europe suspended 30 days

Great Britain I think is not included

IMO, way overblown. Hospital ERs are filled to the brim, hospital beds are hard to find in the Dallas area. Not many confirmed cases here I know of.

Manufactured chaos.

If it is overblown then why are the beds full? Hospitals don’t get paid for admitting people who don’t need it and they lose money if they keep them longer than medically necessary. Scares me that the beds are already full and we may throw this at them.

My wife said the ER was full of under 40 types that thought they were going to die because they have a cough. If you think she was kidding, she wasn't. When I got to the hospital at 8pm the ER was almost full. My father in law arrived after noon.

It took five plus hours to admit him. He's 88, diagnosed with liver cancer that spread to his stomach. My wife said he was in extreme pain but there wasn't a bed available for hours. It's been a nightmare, totally unnecessary

ETA
As stated earlier, after a couple of hours my wife (frantically) tried to have him moved to a hospital with available beds. Medical City was full, her first choice of transfer. Parkland (last choice) couldn't guarantee a bed would be available. On the phone I couldn't believe it, I thought she was kidding but her tone left no doubt.

The hospital he's in is the best in the area, just took too long to get medical attention once in their ER. Not the hospital's fault. I'm sure they're on high alert for this virus, hopefully the screening process improves.

My wife told me last night that not only is the UT system getting an extra week off for spring break, but when the kids come back all classes will be canceled and switched to online classes. The second week off is prep for the teachers to get their classes switched over.

Good point Bubba. We know from years of experience how valuable a boatload of federal bureaucrats can be. The examples are endless.

Once a person is exposed to the Wuhan Virus, once they get passed it are they immune from catching it again for like the flu for that season?

I work with 35 healthcare facilities across the US including several Level 1 Trauma Centers. Not one confirmed case of CoronaVirus at any of those facilities.

Flu season. And that’s exactly right. Throwing unnecessary fear is dangerous.

No, I believe China had people infected a second time. You'd think the second time your body would be better prepared to fight it.

I volunteer for the Conference USA tourney in Frisco at Jerry's the Star(neat place)
Last night they notified us the games will not be open to the public . That will hit a lot of people in their wallet.
Multiply thst by all the Conference tournaments, regionals Nit and Final Four
The long term affects of this are just starting to be felt.

I know it looks bad that an agency purportedly designed for a pandemic was axed but this goes to the heart of need and just in case. I am a financial planning manager and we insist on normalized budgets. We don't allow money for outliers. THIS IS AN OUTLIER. A bureaucracy that grows and grows because just in case becomes a constant emergency is what socialism and deficits are all about.

That being said, I have no idea if this agency would have made things better. I doubt it. The real story is the slow realization in life that this is a problem, you could die if you are old and have underlying medical problems and that catching it if you are young and otherwise healthy is not a death sentence but could be a big problem if you are hourly or in general have kids and everyone is stuck at home.

That agency would not have saved the stock market crash. The United States government has many resources. I wonder how much money is being spent on enabling illegal immigration which also exposes us to foreigners who have not been screened. But apparently that's a political sacred cow.

Looking at history, we know that a pandemic is going to come around at least once a decade. They were on the National Security Council. Surely that would help.

I'm not doubting that resources available and on call would help. But we've heard about shovel-ready before. The hype machine about a federal agency's mission seems to far outpace it's actual ability to execute.

Just the other day my fiancee (who is a widow) sent in some required paperwork to the SSA so her son could receive his final two months of benefits as he will turn 18. She sent it in certified return receipt. The date stamped proof of receipt green card is in her hand. Guess what? They can't find the paperwork, meaning tough titties and suspended her payments!

I'm not kidding. I just question why the Left believes so much in government agencies. Yes, people are helped but it's ridiculous how bad they truly are and how politicized they are.

And no, we don't blame Trump. It is a bureaucratic matter that survives all elections.

I think the Pandemic response group was to serve as an adviser on the NSC and a liaison to other countries, the WHO, the CDC, etc. to protect the national security interests of the US. Not a "government agency" processing anything. It's a little different than your unfortunate situation.

They don’t care how well it works as long as people get equal results, which will be generally bad. They figure competent people will be forced to make it work when in reality there is no incentive to do so.

It's called Mindless Egalitarianism. Equality over all else. No. Matter. What. It gives them power because in their world, activism is sacrosanct and identifying injustice no matter how slight and subsequently accusing others is an act of holiness. The whistle-blower is a high priest. The victim is a martyr. Those who object to the zealotry are Philistines because you are a disposable impediment to the mission of the culture.

I was told this is a hoax and there would be no hospital bed capacity/city math.

I was told young people were more level headed and didn't believe everything CNN etc told them.

The flu is much more a threat than this virus. Why didn't we close schools, ban travel to Europe etc etc over the flu?

This morning the ER @ the hospital my father in law is in, was still pretty crowded. Not as much as the past 2 days but still crowded & half the people were 30 or younger. People are freaking out over this for no reason.

The Harris County Toll Road Authority says their toll booth operators will no longer accept coin or cash payments for tolls! Unbelievable! Couldn't their toll booth operators maybe just wear some nitrile gloves and go ahead and handle that dirty old money? I hope this doesn't become a trend.

Young people are not more level-headed especially in the teens and twenties. Everything they read is scary. They wonder if assassinating an Iran general will lead to WWIII. They wonder if everyone is going to die of C-19. They wonder if Trump is going to allow the seas and oceans to rise all the way to Nashville. They wonder if white people are pathologically inclined to lynch black people just because they are black.

They wonder about a lot of things. But for some reason the hipster/youth zeitgeist that dominates the on-line world has become a political grass-roots movement that has become the incubating eggs that will one day hatch Marxist acolytes.

They should just let them through for about a week.

More moronic behavior. If I was a toll road employee, I would worry the county will figure out I’m not needed.

An adviser on the NSC. Wow. Impressive. Is that one of the many groups (FBI, CIA, etc.) that stopped the 9-11-01 hijackers? Maybe they could team up with the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and quasi-public agencies of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae so the geniuses running those organizations could explain how they curtailed the mortgage boom and bust that caused the 2008 economic collapse. Hell, throw in the local SWAT police that rescued all those kids at Columbine H.S. by bravely waiting for the shooting to stop before going into the building to see that the two assailants committed suicide. Top it off with a a little WMD and Pearl Harbor.

I could go on and on with HUD, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, Federal Deficit and Debt, etc., but I'm hoping you get the point.
