Coaching News and Rumors

Red Hot if true.
White Hot if true.
But that’s a really big “if”.
Ole Miss is opening the bank vault to keep Lane Kiffin in Oxford.

Then again, maybe Lane wasn’t SEC ready.

Probably not going to happen. Ole Miss just threw $7.5 million per year to keep Lane on. (Not that Phil Knight couldn’t pay a buy out…).

John Canzano of The Oregonian is now reporting that Lane Kiffin is Not in the mix for the Oregon head coaching position.

Reports have Joe Brady and Kalani Sitake in the mix.

A. Lane should head west. He's topped out competitively at Ole Miss.
B. Thanks for staying on top of this thread Chop. Good information.
C. bystander: ouch. kind of mean. :) I'm lukewarm on Lebby. On one hand, regardless of his role at Baylor, I wouldn't have him on board just due to perception. On the other hand, he is a former OU player and he's been hired by three other universities since his tenure at Baylor. I will defer to Venables and Castiglione. Hate as you want on those guys but they're honorable men. He doesn't have magic information.

More bad news for the sooners. SMU just poached DL Coach Calvin Thibodeaux from the sooners. You read that correctly — OU is now losing coaches to SMU…

The Ducks have now formally requested permission to talk with Chip Kelly.

Chip Kelly and Kilani Sitake appear to be the front runners at this point.

Phil Knight may want to keep it a West Coast club. Aranda would still fit in that category.

Cal beat USC and Stanford this season. Would be nice to see Brainiac U put together a good season or two

I went to our game with them a few years ago with my California brother who graduated from there. Walking across campus I saw a small stretch of parking spots with a sign saying they were reserved for Nobel Prize winners. Wish we had some of those

I was at that game as well, and was amazed at three things:
- how crappy the attendance was overall
- how out of those that were in attendance, at least half were wearing burnt orange
- how incredibly rude their fans were

I think they declined to keep him on. Lincoln declined to take him as well.

Agree and I bought tickets right before the game at the box office!

Thibodeaux was named a Rivals top-25 national recruiter for 2018. He was also a Broyles Award candidate in 2020. He's a loss for the sooners and a gain for DDD (SMU). Those are the facts. Perhaps there are rumors about a personality conflict with Lincoln Riley or some other reason for Linc not taking him to the West Coast, I don't know. Facts are, he looks solid as a position coach.

The Cavaliers are looking at Broyles Award Winner Michigan OC Josh Gattis now for their open head coach position. Errbody seems to want those Broyles Award coaches... UVA also reportedly offered Tony Elliot (Clemson OC) for the position, but they could not "come to an agreement." Sounds like there may be limited pounds in the King's treasury (after clothing their soldiers like this--above--I can see why...). Interviewing multiple candidates and conducting a fairly thorough search cannot be said to be taking a Cavalier attitude towards filling this important position.

Gattis is a Durham, N.C., native who played football at Wake Forest.

Report: Josh Gattis Emerges For Head Coaching Job

Virginia coaching search: No deal between Cavaliers, Tony Elliott; Michigan's Josh Gattis targeted, per report

It’s official. Lebby is leaving Lane and Ole Miss to become the new OC at Oklahoma.

Lane may either hire a big name for his OC to replace Lebby, or consider a possible jump to Oregon (if Phil Knight offers).
