Coaching News and Rumors

Joe Brady (former LSU OC, and NFL Panthers) is another name popping up in the Oregon speculation.

:oregon:

Only if I could see Sabrehorn react the second he hears the news!

EMS is finally here. I am not feeling well, but hoping it was just a nightmare. Anyone know where I can get a good deal on a big screen TV? Seems mine suffered some terminal abuse during my blackout.

Manny's D only works if you have superior athlete's. Not the time. We need solid schemes to cover some holes until we get better safeties, LBs, and rush edge.

Is Fickell's inclusion in the CFB Playoff the only reason he hasn't left Cincinnati? I'm a bit shocked that all the jobs except for Oregon are taken and he hasn't found a future home.

There are different theories floating around about Fickell:

1. What you said - Cincy's in the playoffs; he's concentrating on that--as he should be. When it's over, then he'll talk.
2. He's an Ohio guy, and unless and until Ohio State opens up, he's happy to stay at Cincy.
3. He'll have more $$$$ and play in the Big 12. He thinks the pathway to the playoffs each year is best achieved in the Big 12.
4. Oregon is a possibility.
5. NFL
6. He's really not that great in the first place; he just grabs many of the Ohio guys that aren't quite good enough for the Buckeyes (but still very good), and plays a bunch of mediocre teams (this is not my opinion).
7. Could be hard to work with??? (c'mon, he couldn't be harder to work with than lots of the real egomaniacs out there...)

Dykes hires Joseph Gillespie (Tulsa DC) as the Frogs’ new Defensive Coordinator. He’s coached at Stephenville, played at Angelo State, and has plenty of Texas connections. He’s still fairly young and described as a “high energy” guy.

Interesting development up in the Marcellus Shale Country:

Pitt Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple (64 yrs old) has abruptly resigned and will not coach in the bowl game. Some aren’t surprised. There’s speculation about health issues, family issues, and the challenges of working with Narduzzi’s easy-going, earnest, kind, affable, and soft-spoken personality. Some are suggesting a possible backstab by Narduzzi who’s searching for a new OC. Pitt folks are also saying Whipple doesn’t recruit.

Pitt’s offense was very good, and they won the ACC. The development of QB Kenny Pickett was superb.

And then there’s Nebraska…. Other rumors are that Whipple is going to Nebraska to coach with Frost. In fact, there’s quite a bit of buzz on Mark Whipple bolting for Nebraska lately. The Huskers could be driving this tractor.

Joe Brady, the offensive mastermind of LSU vaunted national championship pass offense just fired from job as Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator. I bet he lands as OC with A big time college program soon
Brady is among the top 2-3 most mentioned guys in the online rumor mills to take over as head coach at Oregon (behind Chip Kelly).

I think they’re both good, but Aranda or Fickell may be better.

Battle of the OSUs for a DC.

:tosu:………:osu:

Ohio State is poaching away Jim Knowles (DC Okla State) from the mullet. The Bucks are not satisfied with the state of their defense. When Michigan kicks their a$$, heads start to roll. And to think, we had one of the top defensive minds in our own backyard for all these years…

On edit—it’s done. Jim Knowles to the Buckeyes.

"New OU coach Venables preaches values..."

Well, based on his background, I guess nothing says preached values like Lebby.

We know it's win at all costs up there. It's an old story. And they don't care. Just win baby. They are beyond obsessed. It's pretty sad to gloat over ill-gotten gains but that's how it is...

MORE :tech:

"Also on Wednesday, Tech officially announced the hire of defensive line coach Zarnell Fitch from TCU. Fitch has been on Gary Patterson's staff for the past eight seasons, the first two as director of high-school relations and the past six as defensive line coach.

Fitch was a defensive lineman at Navarro College and TCU from 2001-05 and played professionally for five years. He then coached at Dallas Lincoln from 2011-13, the last year as head coach."

Reports: Oregon DC, former Fresno State coach Tim DeRuyter to lead Texas Tech defense

I'd say they're building a capable-looking staff up on the South Plains.

More on Tech's new DC - Tim DeRuyter:

DeRuyter played at Air Force and has been a defensive coordinator at seven programs: Ohio (1995-98 and 2002-04), Navy (1999-2000), Nevada (2005-06), Air Force (2007-09), Texas A&M (2010-11), California (2017-20) and Oregon (2021).

(he certainly checks off the experience box)
