The Texas job requires a unique skill set that extends well beyond the field, as we have seen with the current guy who has failed that part of the job to an extent never imagined. Of course, Mack was the master in this regard.
Patterson is an excellent coach, but not a fit. Same for Gundy IMHO. Neither would be a bad choice, just not the right choice for Texas.
Is there an obvious or even subtle downside with Campbell? To be clear, I’m not saying that he is the next coming...but who knows?
The primary concern I have heard so far is the argument that the Texas job is too big and too political for him. I don’t buy it. He’s very likable, a class act, and he would grow on people. Of course, I have no idea if he’s interested. SH alluded to Michigan as being his next landing spot. I hope not, unless Meyer is hired. But long term, I still like someone young and classy like Campbell.
