Opt outs. He has several players that are sitting out any bowl game.Mullen told reporters says that was probably the last time these Gators play together, and they can interpret that however they want and run with it.
Might just mean no bowl game ....
Might the Vols consider Napier? There is much less stench in Knoxville than at Auburn--much less. I don't know what happens behind the scenes, but Tennessee has always struck me as one of the cleaner programs in the SEC (not that that's saying much...). It might be a better place for Napier to land than Auburn. Also, he wouldn't have to be the perpetual in-state little brother. They have been for several weeks. Hugh Freeze is all over it. Not sure they are "over" him.
It goes without saying that Todd Graham had his resume there within minutes of their first loss.
Agree. Sad because Knoxville is nice, big stadium and great fans (at least compared to the worst). Wrong shade of orange. I think it is probably hard to win big in Tenn when NC, Clemson, Miss schools or Kentucky have even competitive teams.Tennessee has been slimy since before Phat Phil pulled the palace coup to get the HC's job. Remember "The Fulmer Cup"?
The athletic department was controlled for some time by one family (they own the Browns or Bengals). Phat Phil kissed their *** to get the AD job, then promptly banned them from Tennessee athletics. (Refer to that as Phat Phil Coup II). Not a lot of coaches trust Fulmer, the school administration, or the possibility the family opens the checkbook and buys an override of Fulmer. It's a mess in Knoxville, and yes, a cheating, slimy mess.
I think a lot of teams today expect to live by that "purchase'. At my age, when I think of base in state team w bought players from out of state, I think of Nebraska. They were good as long as they were buying skill players out of Florida.
They made a good choice. I foresee a steady build up to one of the top 2-3 teams in their league with an occasional conference title. Not good for the ags long term.Sounds like Auburn will land Billy Napier
Sounds like Auburn will land Billy Napier
I think Auburn hires Bill Clark. That guy is a Alabama native and could recruit the hell out of the South with a big program like Auburn.Supposedly, Napier is staying at Louisiana and will pass on Auburn or maybe he's trying to raise the ante.
Auburn is also reportedly looking at Kevin Steele, Sark, and maybe Lane Kiffin. I'd take Malzohn over any of those guys.

That's the Gary Patterson strategy. Some coaches realize they have a bird's nest on the ground. Making a couple million a year at a program that is happy with a small conference title, etc for many many years is much better than attempting to turn a school into a winner at a big program competing against the Tide, Clemson, OU, etc.etc...and getting fired 3 or 4 years down the road.
At any other time in history, I'd put a laughing emoji on that one. Not now though. Absent big changes, we very well could lose to the Rajun Cajuns. I don't think Napier is on our radar, but I think he's a really good coach.Yeah Gus > than those.
Napier might be holding out for Texas after he beats Herman in Austin next year...
He has already jumped from Arky State to South Alabama- lolI saw that Butch Jones took the Arky St job but didn't know he took Applewhite with him from the Bama analyst role.
Report: Applewhite hired as Arkansas State offensive coordinator
So they didn't have their new guy lined up before firing Gus? That's not very smart. At least CDC knows not to send Tom packing until he knows what he can get. I agree Auburn may end up downgrading. Or maybe we can just trade Tom for Gus.All eyes are on Auburn.
They wanted Napier, but apparently Napier turned them down. Of course, the possibility remains that Napier is just playing hard to get for bigger $$$$$.
Still in the rumor mill for Auburn:
Bill Clark (UAB HC)
Kevin Steele (AU interim coach) is unlikely, but still a possibility.
Other reports are claiming Steele is out: Report: Kevin Steele, Steve Sarkisian no longer candidates for Auburn job
Sarkisian is also no longer in consideration at Auburn. Hmmmmm....
Brent Venables is in the discussion, and other AU rumor mill coaches include: Freeze, Neal Brown (WV) and Joe Brady (NFL Carolina Panthers OC).
Auburn Coaching Search 6.0: With Napier out, who is the favorite?
o they didn't have their new guy lined up before firing Gus?
Seems to be the plan.Maybe he'll wait out Big Ed to retire or be run out of town.
Sounds like it’s Game of Thrones at Auburn.Oh, they did, just not the right one. That was a palace coup by Kevin Steele, who a smaller portion of the BMDs backed than the AD anticipated. Steele is still the "fall back" guy, when they get turned down by the next four.
So the AD & school president go out on a limb in a big hurry and without consulting with the people paying off Gus, make a decision, and like everything else at Clemson without the lake, it blew up in their faces.
