Coach PK & the #1 Texas D—Barron wins Thorpe Award --> We are DBU!!!

The D kept us on top in an anemic game by our O.
Nailed it, Chop. The defense gets a solid "A." The offense gets a "C." The Horns have a defense that's capable of winning a natty. The offense is slightly above middle-of-the-pack. Ole Miss shredded the Hogs defense; the Horns squeaked out a W. The Hogs defense is certainly not world-class; yesterday they were inspired and physical, and the Texas offense didn't match their intensity and physicality. IMO the Horns can get by Kentucky with superior talent, but aggy is a different matter. Hope Sark and the staff are working on the offensive issues.

Yes, but that was the Pig Peoples game of the year. Look for the same in collie station when playing for the top seed in the $EC CCG.

No, its going to be way worse: a nut clutching, whooping, late hitting, eye gouging holy war from the ags.

I hope Sark knows to cater the team's food from Austin.

Maintaining our position at or near the top for best defense in the country.

#1 Total Defense

#4 Scoring Defense

If I was a high school player in Texas, and had a shot of being on a dominant, winning defense on my way to the NFL, I'd be chatting it up with Coach PK any chance I could get.
#1 Total Defense in the Nation. That's right.

We're teaching the SEC how to play defense. That's probably why they were so desperate to bring us into the conference. They wanted somebody in the league, at least one team, that could play some defense and be an example for the others.

Won’t this be their biggest game of all time? If it is then it follows that it could be their greatest loss of all time.

If Tucker had missed that field goal, that would have been their biggest game of all time. Instead, it was their greatest nightmare of all time.

If they should win, the question will be who would be the second team in the CCG? It's probably Georgia or Alabama. Either would win going away so the question then becomes would a 3-loss aggy make the CFP? I don't think so, as do every sheep in Brazos and Washington counties.

I'm still of the opinion that a 3-loss SEC team misses out. I know a lot of radio/tv pundits disagree, but I just don't see a reasonable justification for having a 3-loss team be placed ahead of a slew of 1-loss teams because they're "just better."

We all know they're "just better," but ignoring all standings and W's/L's flies in the face of a fair seeding for the playoff.

Isn’t there a high probability that if we win vs Kentucky but lose the following week then we are out of the playoffs?

There is and always will be a negative Longhorn and State of Texas bias.

Yes, but there's still an outside chance we'd get the #2 seed for the CCG if that happens.

Updated from last week:

Passing yards per game allowed - #1 - still #1 by a long shot
Team pass efficiency D - #1 - fell to #2 behind Notre Dame
Total D - #2 - up to #1! Barely ahead of tOSU
Fewest 1st downs allowed - #3 - up to #2 ahead of Army
Scoring D - #4 - still #4 between Notre Dame and Ole Miss
Interceptions - #6 - fell to #7... guess a bunch of teams had more picks last week
Forced turnovers - #7 - up to #6 but still 3 behind JMU and Notre Dame
3rd down conversion D - #13 - still #13 after the Pigs converted 40%
Red zone D scoring percentage - #16 - fell to #18
Rushing yards per game allowed - #28 - up to #24
TFL - #31 - up to #24... hard charging last week led to a big improvement
Sacks - #41 - up to #26! Six sacks will do that for you.
Defensive TDs scored - #41 (just 1) - still tied with a bunch of teams at 1 total TD, down to #45
4th down conversion D - #45 - up to #39

Look at that!!!

Now, Coach PK's only detractors are drooling imbeciles on the short bus.

232 total yards - averaging 249 for the year as the #1, just got better.
21 rushing yards

7 points given up - averaging 11.9 as the #4 scoring defense, just got better.

The D only gave up 7 pts vs. Kentucky.

The O gave up the other 7 pts in a freakish pick-6 fumble play.

Coach PK and the #1 Longhorn Defense just keep on rolling.

Sydir Mitchell stuffed up the middle and got a tackle for no gain yesterday. He's bigger than his listed 350 lbs.

The D has been the backbone this year. Hats off to that group as they have been dominant in almost every game. Providing we take care of business next week in the land of animal husbandry, its another shot at Georgia.

I'll give him credit that the players have learned enough that when he didn't get the defensive play called in time, the kids knew what to on their own and actually made adjustments at the line. It was nice to see them quit looking at the sideline while Kentucky snapped the ball.

I hate a soft zone, but we haven't recruited any speed back there. HE LOST the OU game last year with his indecision. I cannot tolerate my players waiting for the call when the offense is already lined up to snap the ball. He did a good job during the middle of the season against soft teams, but yesterday, against another "soft" team, we had a few of these again. Not gonna beat A&M, much less Georgia with that. Of course, if we don't beat A&M, we don't have to worry about Georgia.

Kids can't help the quality of the team on the other side of the field, but we haven't played a bunch of "loaded" teams.

I have a friend from Poland and I asked her if Hitler won the war in Poland because Poland played a soft zone.

That's right--the Country's BEST DEFENSE is in Austin!!!

Chop,

I respect you, but come on, quoting the Daily Texan? Can those people find Memorial Stadium?

Statistics? Comical! It was Arkansas & Kentucky, not Oregon & Ohio State. With the exception of Georgia, this year's schedule would make Westlake jealous.

The kids have played well, taken a few plays off here and there, but they have played well. They can't help who is on the schedule, and like I said, when K didn't get his call in Saturday, the leaders lined their teammates up, moved them into position, and made the plays. The "good coaching" shows up in their ability to do that, not on a stat sheet.

1. We tackle well, including in the open field.
2. We very rarely blow coverages.

Those 2 alone put us in the top 10% of defenses.

3. We usually can get pressure on the QB, even without blitzing.

Those 3 alone put us in the top 5% of defenses.
