The short thread about COVID-19 "Herd Immunity" is that there is none. You may want to add Norway and Denmark to see how poorly Sweden performed compared to its neighbors. There is no "herd immunity" in Sweden. They paid dearly in deaths.

Graph the US against any other first world country not named China nor Russia and you will see how bad it is: 5% of the world population with 25% of the world deaths. Third world country level of performance thanks to politics triumphing over science.

This Bloomberg article was written especially for you.

Covid Spread Can’t Only Be Explained by Who’s Being ‘Bad’

“The controversy mirrors one that took place a few years ago when renowned cancer researcher Bert Vogelstein dared to suggest that the very nature of cancer had a random element and therefore some people who did everything right would get cancer through bad luck. He was pilloried for the view, not because it was untrue, but because it was deemed a dangerous invitation for people to be bad.

Public health in the United States has a tendency toward moralizing against indulgences. We were told obesity was caused by indulgence in high-fat food even though the evidence pointed elsewhere, and it took years to recognize that opioid addiction is a disease and not a sin. That attitude may be ingrained in the culture, but it shouldn’t get in the way of the search for the truth.”

You mean like UK, Belgium, Spain, France? They have higher or similar death rates.

Did you look at the following factors when comparing countries: diet, age distribution, obesity, vitamin D levels, population density, number of travelers seeding the pandemic, social norms, HCQ use, reporting criteria for covid deaths, etc. Seems like these would be important factors. Please show me where you did this analysis to support your conclusion.

Texas is going to 25% capacity and I would not be shocked if for the first couple of games it goes even lower. Seems like if they are going to play the games (and I have already staked out my position on that one) then doing it with no fans really is choice that makes most sense and is safest.

I can’t see how you put 25k people together and don’t have some spreader events of the virus and if we really want to keep the players safe doesn’t no fans make sense especially if we are already limiting dramatically attendance as a safety measure.

Our church puts >1000 people together every weekend over multiple services and there hasn’t been any spreader events. At DKR, that would be roughly equivalent to 25k folks entering 50 entrances into the stadium seating area over a 1 hour period. Montgomery county (location of our church) is averaging 50 cases per day. It can be done.

So why are cases going down? Masks? Herd immunity? Whatever you believe, why can’t we bottle it and use it on game day?

ou lost its #1 RB (Kennedy Brooks) to the opt out. He was a freshman All-American. Leaving them TJ Pledger (40 total carries), RS freshman Marcus Major and true freshman Seth McGowan

That's a shame

Good question, and the answer is I don't know and I suspect anyone who says they do know is really speculating too.

I will admit that I am a risk averse person (too many years as an insurance defense and now healthcare lawyer) and even if I wrap my head around college football going forward without the kind of bubble that the pros are using, I have a harder time seeing how 25k fans interacting in a stadium, with concession lines, bathrooms, walking in and out of the stadium etc. isnt a recipe for spreading. If the cases are indeed going down (and here in DFW we get different messages seemingly every day on that issue) isnt the goal to keep having them go down and doesnt putting 25k fans into thirty or so stadiums around the country every Saturday seem like a good way to stop the cases going down and restart a spread? If so then why not have the games but limit the spread by having no fans.

Today’s Chron says Galveston hotels are 90-95% full, yet no increase in cases.

And WHAT percentage of the US death toll is directly attributable to the State of New York and the poor decisions by Cuomo?

MC... You and I both know we've reached a stage in the progression of the virus that nothing we do or do not do will make much difference....It has passed inflection, critical mass, herd immunity, tipping point, or whatever you want to call it. Hard to get some others to see this even though it is clearer by the day. Every single day I interact with more and more people who have recently had it and...what??...Well, it is self evident to me.
If you are very old (though I was hugging, high fiving, and worshipping with my 84 year old non-masked buddy at church yesterday morning) or have serious health predispositions, take necessary precautions and act accordingly. For 99.5% of the population...It is move on time.
(One side note...where you live, how officials there are viewing it, and where you get your news will certainly affect your view of <or grasp of> reality on this subject)

I have moved on, but the problem is the media won't let the enormous companies in my Industry move on. Much less public schools. So, I have to be around some for my Daughter who is a junior in HS. And, I cannot get in to most plants to grow my business. So, I started a more passive income business and re-arranged all investments to hedge the US dollar debasement. I'm immune to corona virus, I think my whole family is too. Wish everyone would hedge the dollar. Those who don't will be very sorry. There is NO immunity from US dollar debasement.

Garbage. 9 other countries have a higher death rate that the USA, including the major European countries of Belgium, UK, Spain, Italy, and Sweden. The US is 10th, with the socialized medicine heaven of France at 12th.

The virus has yet to fully work its way through the third word, so the USA out of the world percentage will go down, unless you think the places like the Congo or Indonesia are either immune or will have a better response that we do.

AC...Would you mind PM me on how you believe it best to accomplish this^^^^...taking advantage of the debasement?
Thanks

Penn State’s AD said today that he doesn’t know if there was ever an official vote of university presidents to cancel the fall football season
Seems kinda weird

I think he was saying it didn’t follow proper channels.

This could get really interesting considering the Big Ten commissioner's son is practicing in Starkville preparing for the SEC season.

Penn State's AD apparently did not consult with today's updated, primary English-language reference material...

2020 Updated Webster's Fictionary

"Proper channels " - Whatever channels decision-making process needs to travel to avoid dissenters/opposition and rational debate in order to obtain desired, pre-determined outcome.
