CFB Playoffs: Horns vs Clemson Tigers Game Thread

Clemson had a good passing game plan and their receivers made several difficult catches especially. No. 1.

Clemson has a damn good coach and a veteran qb. They never quit. And yet we beat them by 14

Our team was not good a few years ago and now has as good a chance as any team out there to be national champions.
The main difference is Sark.
He isn’t perfect, but he’s the best coach we have had in a loooonng time.

I was fortunate enough to attend the game, and it was definitely electric. A few quick observations.

Blue went from the doghouse to the penthouse tonight. I was worried that he might portal. Now, not so much. If he keeps this up, he’ll declare for the Draft.

Ewers was highly proficient. I thought he had a good game.

As others have observed, Klubnik was dropping dimes like Penix, last year. I felt bad for Mohammed. Clemson‘s #1 was simply outstanding. Manny was pretty much all over him, but couldn’t do anything.

I think Dabo and their OC got the best of our pass defense for much of the game. I was astounded how they were able to scheme a couple of players wide open on two of their touchdowns. That’s said, tonight’s game may have been a blessing in disguise, preparing the secondary for Gabriel and Oregon.

There were some critical drops that really hurt us. In particular, DeAndre Moore (the int) and Ryan Wingo. I also thought the pass to Golden late in the game that would’ve resulted in a critical first down, should’ve been caught, but maybe it was behind him. I really couldn’t tell.

All in all, it was a great and important win, and I do believe we can win it all if we keep progressing forward.

Klubnik came alive when Texas stopped the pressure on him and appeared to be playing more zone coverage the second half. That’s when his receivers were running wide open and made some good catches. Klubnik capitalized on what Texas was giving him.
He definitely has exceptional talent.
This is the second game in a row where the defense played a lot of soft Zone in the second half and it has allowed a team we were dominating to get back into the game: Georgia and Clemson. The bend but don’t break hasn’t served us well in these situations.

Top teams with a good passing attack find the open receiver, move the ball and score against a soft zone.
I hope Coach k plays more man with pressure on the Quarterback from here forward.

I'm always happy with a win. That's the bottom line. But we showed a lot of shortcomings in this game, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Every talking head clown on TV calls us an elite defense, but when we've played teams with good QBs we've been anything but elite. Beating the crap out of OU and Florida with either walk ons or backups doesn't dazzle me. Beating UTSA, LA, MSU, Kentucky? BFD!! So we have a ton of work to do. I know absolutely nothing about ASU. On paper we should win. But I know a lot about Dillon Gabriel. And he will chew us to bits if we don't improve our pass rush, containment and all the the things a good D needs to do to beat a great team with a great QB. We need to play better.

Any game where we can effectively run the ball, we have a very good chance to win. Our inability to run on Georgia really limited our chances in both losses.
JB's "to the house" run was as clutch a play as we could ever have ask for. They had the momentum and things didn't look good at all, but Blue broke their back with that one.

We beat a good team today & Sark et.al have some coaching to do. Good news all around.

Why did the talking heads keep saying Klubnik grew up 10 min from here? Have they ever driven in Austin traffic? Did he have a helicopter?
