Big 12 Tournament

Without listening, I’m guessing he doesn’t like how hard our players work on defense to deny his players. On the press specifically. Getting open. And really in the half court. Their players struggle in that situation.

I listened to the Fennelly comments regarding freedom of movement. I couldn’t hear the question well but apparently someone(s) somewhere had offered that thought. I’m not sure I agree with him but he knows and I don’t. A few years ago, there were some rule changes on hand checking, blocking in the lane as your player was cutting to the ball, etc. I’m not seeing a lot of that anymore. I’d have to hear more from Fennelly or others on that.

It’s obviously Fennelly loves his team and how they act on and off the floor. I agree. Classy good kids. Obviously Fennelly is steaming from the loss today and that was evident.

The game turned in 30 seconds. Down 10 and struggling and in that time, a three, two turnovers with layups got 7 points and changed the game. I rewatched to see who inbounded the ball on the 2 turnovers and as good as she played with 35 points, A. Joens made two really poor passes that turned the game. We went from struggling with the game getting away to one possession game. Huge.

This is not the first time this season he has made these types of remarks in connection with playing Texas. Guess he and Jeff Mittie can get together and commiserate over a glass of milk. Then they can rejoice that Texas is leaving the Big Twelve.

You could have just watched the vid I posted above . . . :e-face-tears:

Mooo…..that’s exactly what I watched. I didn’t have time or inclination to hunt for that sequence in game film. So I watched your clip like 7 times. I ALWAYS take the easy wsy out. Thanks for making it easy on us lazies.

My bad. Thought you went to rewatch that segment on a replay of the game or something.

I just read that article from STANZ on freedom of movement. I say BS. The reference to Harmon riding her player 90 feet is the worst example. Harmon plays the best fundamental defense EVER for 90 feet. She moves her feet and body quickly and slips through and over screens (not under em), and after a rough start to the season has quit reaching. And waits like a cat to pounce on a loose handle. That comment is simply wrong and takes any credibility away from his other points. I think Mittie and Fennelly are defending their type players that are susceptible to pressure. I’m ok with that defense of his players. But saying Texas’ defense is holding, obstructing cutters, hand checking, and other is wrong. In fact, I didn’t ever see the author specifically say that. The author couched it as “playing physical”….and I agree…Texas does play physical…..fundamental and within the rules and officials’ oversight. I have heard zero about any overall movement to change rules or how it’s called. That author is barking up the wrong tree.

Many teams teach their Gs to use the arm bar with their off arm as they dribble and it's never, ever called.

Creme has updated brackets by moving Texas to a 2. Keeps ISU as a 2 due to competitiveness of the game. This dropped LSU to a 3 and into a matchup with Texas in ELITE 8. INTERESTING if Committee agrees
I hope that is not our bracket. I just saw it and that would put us against Kentucky in the 2nd round. I’m not scared to put our girls against anyone but, they are one of the hottest teams in the country besides us. They have won 9 straight I believe and just beat South Carolina.

Regarding the NCAA's... IMO regardless of the outcome of the Big 12 championship game, Baylor's body of work doesn't warrant a #1 seed over Louisville unless the committee just doesn't want to award #1's to two teams from the same conference. Baylor only played two ranked teams outside of conference play and lost to both of them. Aside from those two games, they only played two other P5 teams in non-conference (Missouri and Arizona State) winning both. On the other hand, Louisville has several wins against ranked opponents outside of the ACC in addition to the wins over the ranked teams in their conference. When you're positioning yourself to be a number one seed come tournament time, having wins over ranked teams outside of conference is something that helps your cause. Having said that, aside from Baylor having swept us, our total body of work looks better than theirs does.

Regarding the whole freedom of movement complaint... It's total ********. As much as I respect the coaching abilities of Mittie and Fenelly I'm sick of them crying like titty babies simply because they can't recruit the type of athletes that can effectively play against pressure defense. Defense is played with the feet, not the hands... And Vic has taught that to a science. If we were reaching, holding, hacking and slapping then that would be a different story but we are not. In fact, their teams do more of that than anything because their players lack the quickness of foot to keep up. If players should be allowed to move about freely without resistance, then I guess a post player should be able to go down and stand right under the basket and have the ball lobbed up to them and nobody be allowed touch them? I get that they're frustrated but basketball is a contact sport. Get over it!
Again... Two twin titty babies!:smh:

p.s. If anyone cares to address that article directly to defend our team, it is shared openly on the author's Twitter page as well. You can access the Twitter page through that link to the article.

Crybabies.

The first team that comes to mind when anyone mentions off ball hand pushing is K-State because they’ve been doing it constantly for YEARS. I don’t know if I’ve given Iowa State the benefit of the doubt in previous seasons but it was blatant in every game this year when Ryan was being guarded by Rori.

Continued his tradition of asking stupid questions.
The worst one of all was (paraphrasing)
Rori, what message were you sending when you hit those two 3 point shots in OT?

Really, Chip? A player thinks 'I am going to send a message to this other team' when they take a shot? You believe that? What a turd.

Fennelly and Mittie really are being crybabies. Seriously I’m not sure what if anything a defense is allowed to do in their mind’s eye.
But if you think they are crybabies, their fans are a step above that on hyper-colic levels. They are crying foul through every single offensive possession.
Btw, it’s not just an arm bar, they are extending in & out constantly shoving (especially Rori) the defender blatantly. Seems like it wasn’t called until late in the game yet Texas was called for all kinds of touch fouls (from my arena view at least).

Funny they complain about our defensive prowess, but we don't complain about their offensive prowess... about them having great shooters. Instead we adjust and try to defend them as best we can, which is not any easier to do than their playing against our pressure. I guess they want opponents to politely just move out of the way and let them go wherever they want to on the court. Maybe we should even install traffic signals on the court so that opponents can yield to their right of way properly. :rolleyes1:

I have said this all week since the Big 12 honors came out... the reason our players didn't receive the defensive recognition that they should have is because of coaches like these two who hate playing against it so badly that they won't give it any credit.

Vic has been nothing but complimentary of their coaching abilities and of their players as well. Yet all they do in return is piss, moan, whine, and cry. Mittie and Fenelly choose to play a certain style, and recruit the players who can play that style. We're doing the same and pressure defense is nothing new... Coach Conradt pretty much introduced that style to the women's game decades ago.
#Wusses!

On to the game that actually matters. I'm hoping that they can win but as I stated on here before the Baylor sweep, I'll believe it when they actually do it. They've had a really good year this year after struggling earlier. Give credit to Vic and his players.

Unfortunately Baylor is Texas' kryptonite and has the better players again this year. I would love to drink the Kool-Aid and say that Texas is going to win, but I think it will take a mini miracle to do so. I just don't see it.

Yeah, hopefully we can put an end to that trend of being dominated by Baylor that was so prevalent during the tenure of the previous staff... even swept us three times when we had ten McDonald's All-Americans on our roster. I bet this though... as a friend said to me this morning, if they beat us again today it'll be the last time for a while.
:hookem:;):hookem:

Containing Baylor on the offensive glass will be the key to this game. More specifically getting a body on Nalyssa Smith. A lot of her points came from her first miss so if we can just get a body on her we are in pretty good shape. Very much easier said than fine but we are playing good basketball right now so let’s bring home that trophy.
