Berkeley, CA

Here are some thoughts I had during and after the game:

1. The TV camera angle was awful. Seemed like it was very steep, at least early on. Either I got used to it throughout the game, or it improved.

2. Why were all the players except Imani and Brianna wearing white shoes instead of the normal orange shoes? First time this season? I did notice that Ariel switched to orange shoes at the half. I am superstitious; should not have changed shoes for the start of the NCAA tourney.

3. First time this season where I saw Empress wearing her hair in a bun instead of the normal pony tail. Again, I am superstitious.

4. No Nekia. Have to believe we won't see her in the next game. Did she even make the trip? Not sure I saw her on the bench now that I think about it.

5. I agree with the decision to start Celina instead of Brooke due to the most recent games.

6. Early in the game, we were up 8-3, WKU misses a shot, Celina gets the rebound, trips near our basket, looses the ball to WKU, they hit a 3-pointer. We miss our next shot, WKU comes down and hits another 3-pointer to go up 9-8. Just like that, an 8-point swing. That seems to happen a lot to us. You can almost point to one critical mistake that keeps us from getting a cushion, and gives the other team all the momentum.

7. Still can't believe the lack of free throws we shot until about 5 minutes left in the game. We just weren't aggressive on offense Not the first time we've seen that this season. Don't think we even got a charging foul called on one of our guards, and that almost always happens.

8. When our players starting running the floor late in the game, great things happened. That's when we made our critical run.

9. So relieved we reached last year's accomplishment of a first round win, especially with no Nneka, and a very sub-par performance today. We can only play better on Sunday, right? :)

Wow, you really must have her best interest at heart if you want to show her comments on a fan board :rolleyes1:

The good news is that tells me she's smart enough NOT to if you have to bring it to her attention, so I'm not worried about it and glad she's a Longhorn. It also shows she's a LOT smarter than you!

You are a hoot.

I'll offer a bit of advice even though you have ignored it from others...

This board probably isn't the best place to hang out if you only want to hear the good stuff. Around here, it's good, bad and sometimes real ugly.

Just my two cents.

I'm not seeing Nekia on the bench, but not a really good look with the graphics of other scores blocking out shots of the bench. Wth?

I give up. For the record, I have never spoken in person to anyone who has played hoops for Texas.

As other posters have said, every single player is going to make a mistake; sometimes they go unnoticed, sometimes they are magnified and scrutinized. The coaches, not the fans, decide who plays and when. The coaches' grade of a player's performances is what is what counts in the end. I doubt Coach Aston sugarcoats a players' mistakes to them in person.
Then you are not who I am talking about .

Then you are not who I am talking about .
I keep making a point about in person . If that' not you then ... Say what you want its your board . And anyone who thinks players (especially youngers ones) recriuts read this board then you are wrong .They read it not just who I am talking about . They have learned not to read it as its goes back and forth. I am sorry if impressionable young girls ,who play in a sport that doesn't get a lot of attention as men and boys , read all the rankings , fanborads and articles about them and become a little affected about what you think ...well I'm sorry that's just how the world goes.

I couldn't even see the ball going in the basket.
Yea, this is a really bush league broadcast. I feel like I'm in a rafter seat with my nose bleeding profusely watching this game. PLUS, you've got the usual ESPN scroller on the bottom, then the current game score info above that, and then three huge boxes of the other games going. God awful! From a fricking SPORTS CHANNEL!

I'm really wondering about Nekia. I've said it before on here, but we miss her play a LOT more than folks realize. ALWAYS a spark off the bench and good things ALWAYS happened when she was on the court. I miss Nitro!

Is it me, or is Maxy now having a conversation with Maxy? I...I...I'm so confused.

Am I supposed to avoid Tasia or spit at her? I can't tell.

Maybe alcohol is involved at this point. I know I had to drink after that game.

I love you Tasia. I love you Brooke. I love you Arial.

Bottoms up!

Then why the hell did you say you are going to bring any comments to Tasia's attention? Let her play her game and make her own decisions. Hopefully she had thicker skin than you and trusts her coaches and teammates because that's all that matters. It sounds like you need to step away from the computer and Tasia IMHO.

Because I am .

You sure can say what you want to say. If he/she said Tasia stunk or couldn't play, I could understand where you're coming from. But eveytime someone even mentions Tasia's name you people jump on the board with your cape on. Like i said, if you don't like or can't handle what's being said, then don't read the board. Do you think football players family and friends, no matter what school it is post on message boards? Probably not, because they know someone might say something about that player even if it's not offensive. I don't give a crap if you post on here or not, just trying to help you.
Lol ... You need to be able to handle the reply to what you post .

I was so excited to get home to watch the game.I could not believe the way Texas played.I was very surprise. We looked a mess.I was not pleased with the coaching.Aston has to get out of her mind, that a Man to Man Defense is the answer. We should have seen so many different defense's, with the player's we have. That 1 defense want cut it in 2015.And then I noticed the player's turn the heat up in the 6 minute mark of the 2nd Half.Hell where was that the whole game.I don't get it.I got to be Honest.I am impressed with Aston recruiting. Not her Coaching!!!!!!!!! We got too much TALENT.

You are right I don't belong on here . Yall are casual fans .You just go by most of what you read about a player and that's you opinion of them .Yall already on Jadas Twitter worrying about who told her congrats. Posting articles about what prospect nation says . Yall still don't even know what Mulkey said to a Empress and yes I do.

Then spill it or shut up. Any of us can get behind a keyboard and profess anything. Geez!

UT vs. Cal on Sunday.

We all should appreciate the big W tonight, but let's focus on the Cal game and help the Horns get the next victory!!!:hookem:

Texas dominated on the boards to help offset WKU’s 3pt shooting. Horns outrebounded the Lady Toppers 49-28. Imani had 15 and Kelsey 11 to almost match WKU’s team total. Imani was dominant inside with 10-13 FGs and 4-4 FTs for 24 pts. Brooke was the other Longhorn in double figures with 10 pts. Brady (5), Empress (4) and Celina (4) had 13 of the team’s 15 assists. WKU’s Gooch, Govan and Jones combined to hit 11 of the 12 treys the Lady Toppers made. 33 of their FG attempts were 3s and they made only 9 FGs inside the arc.

Cal advanced with a tough win over WSU. The Golden Bears pulled away in the last ten minutes to win by 78-66. All five starters were in double figures as they got only 8 pts from the three bench players that played. Gray led the way with 22 pts, mainly in the paint.

Cal plays a fast tempo game with lots of penetration. Jefflo took nine of the 15 3s attempted, making two. They moved the ball around quickly but took some chances with long passes. The defense they play is in your face. Remember how Aggie played D in their heyday? That’s who Cal reminded me of. If we can handle the pressure, there will be a lot of opportunities to get layups or open looks on the perimeter. If not, Cal will run a layup drill off the turnovers.

We had 19 TOs, three over what we average. At least a third of those were careless/hurried passes in the first half. Nerves should not be a problem against Cal. Pressure might be.

Maxy,

What's your name and facebook address? I'd like that before I give you mine.

After all, you did come here as "Maxy" and right off the bat trashed our "superstar players". I want to make sure Brooke and Ariel see you coming in the Lonestar room so they can practice their fake smiles.

from texassports.com game story: we did play much better in the second half.
TURNOVERS: Texas committed just six turnovers in the second half after turning the ball over 13 times in the first half.
SECOND HALF SHOOTERS: Texas shot 51.6 percent from the field in the second half (16-31 FG).

I plan on drinking before the game starts on Sunday because this team is just too stressful.

Here's hoping they play two great halves on Sunday. Is it halves or halfs? I think I drank too much tonight. :vy:

Well, looks like it'll be a home game for Cal. Lang and secondarily Davenport, Atkins and Taylor (in that order) will need to be much-improved over today. Glad to see McGee-Stafford play with swagger the entire game.

You really are hilarious.

So which is it? Am I supposed to trash them when I see them or fake smile? I am still confused. As long as I trash them to their face, we're ok right?

For the record, I don't trash talk players although I have been known to be frustrated with them after a loss. I do trash talk the coaches at times, but I also say the same thing to the coach in person as I know her and her predecessors.

Like it or not, Maxy, this fan site has its good points and its bad. I am often the latter.
You, however, seem to know all the players in person and can simply trash talk them to their face so why are you here again?

Oh, that's right. Because you also wanted to trash them on the boards. Let me see... What was that you said again.

"...This is why women's basketball is so boring . Brooke and Ariel haven't done anything so exciting . "

You win. You were able to trash the players and the entire sport of women's basketball all at once.

Good for you.

From Imani:
"I think at the end of the day, we're still playing for Nekia (Jones) and Nneka (Enemkpali). They would give their lives to play with us right now so we can't not give it our all out there."

:hookem2::hookem2::hookem2:

As I said in an early post, Cal is very athletic on the perimeter. Brittany Boyd is the pg and makes them go. I totally agree with BabHorn, if our guards and perimeter players don't match what Cal brings to the table we won't win the game.
