Benson was waived by the Bears

Ced, I'm sorry. I can't defend you anymore. You are a bad *** running back. I will always appreciate the yards you gained for UT. I hope you've invested the pro ca$h. Buen suerte from here on out...

Like I said before, Benson padded his numbers against bad teams. Those A&M defenses were horrible. If that was his crowning achievement, color me unimpressed.

Two things should be clear to those who 'have eyes to see':

(1) Cedric was one of college football's great RB's, and

(2) his recent problems are 'surface issues'--symptoms--of more substantive and deeply-rooted concerns that he needs to address sooner, rather than later. Re: pt #2, the Bears waiving CB may is a good thing for him. I hope that he will take full responsibility for his actions and recognize the 'growth opportunities' before him. If he doesn't learn from these most recent problems, ... ouch!

Re: #1--and just one aspect, at that. CFB fans have really short memories. Who would deny R. Williams was a great RB? Did RW not struggle mightily, however, against a Kansas St defense, for example? Likewise, people forget how often most of the 'greats' racked up many, many yards against weak teams. Look at some of RW's biggest games... go further back to a guy like Tony Dorsett at Pitt, as well as all pts in between. To argue that CB wasn't a great CFB RB is, well, stunning to say the least.

holy ****. some of you can turn on a fellow player in a heartbeat.

here's a sobering thought for all you haters.

rosebowl 2004. if ced didn't drag 2 defenders for that extra 2 yards, then dustin's partially blocked kick would not have limped over the crossbar.

he's made some bad choices. he may not be the most likable person. but don't make an *** of yourself and this fanbase by implying that he sucked while he was here. the last time i checked, he's still a fellow horn.

The man was an absolute bad-*** on the field while he was here, and nothing he has done since will change that. I hope he gets his life in order so that we can see that talent again.

We all love Ced. But we all agree that if we're the Bears, we waive him.

If I'm Ced, I'm ready for a change from Chicago. Any ideas on who is talking to him?

I've NEVER been a big Benson fan and said he would have a poor NFL career since day 1, but I think I would trust my gf's opinion on football (who knows nothing) more than I would Deadhorse's based on this thread.

Cedric deserved what he got, but you cannot blame him for the hold out his rookie year. The Bears wanted to pay him less than the 5th and 6th picks and all he asked for was a little more than the 5th and less than the 3rd. What was unreasonable about that?

Cedric was a great RB for us and anyone who says otherwise either doesn't care about stats or refuses to watch games. I also think this shows how good a job Mack did while Cedric was here. It is pretty obvious that he has had these problems since high school and I stand amazed that Mack kept him in check as much as he did.

With all that being said, I do not think we win the MNC in 2005 with Cedric. There is no doubt that VY didn't like him and I am sure many of his other teammates didn't see eye to eye either.

I hope he gets another chance and gets his act together.

DeadHorse, you listed Felix Jones twice. I'd also argue with a whole bunch of guys on your list.

Regardless, Cedric was a hugely productive college running back. If you're going to use "stats" to make your argument, then you can't dismiss the giant stat people keep throwing in your face: #6 all-time.

True, he played as a freshman so he had almost 4 full years to rack up those yards. True, he benefitted GREATLY from the zone read and Vince Young. But, he also had some fairly significant injuries he had to fight through.

Ultimately, I wouldn't put him in the top 10 all-time best college running backs. I might see him at the bottom of the top 20. To your point, he seemed to have a difficult time "making his own way", which all BUT the very best seem to struggle with. Ergo, he's not one of the very best. Ricky Williams could make something out of nothing on a consistent basis. Not all the time, but probably half the time. Cedric, not so much.

What an egocentric dumbass he is.

Deadhorse,

I will give you 6 off of your list that were maybe as good, or Better than Cedric.

The rest of your list is laughable - you are still 14 short. You seem to base your opinion on what you remember from one year, or you tried to list the best NFL backs you could think of.

Nice try, Im done with this topic.

I got a flight to Amsterdam in 3 hours....And thank goodness for that. I need to go smoke a big legal doobie after reading the BS on this thread.
