Baylor at Texas

Championships are won in the paint......Texas hopefully learned their lesson...Hell...they should have learned it from Griner years. We have to stop recruiting these slow girls who can't rebound, move, or be physical. The Caron-Goudreau sisters may be wonderful young ladies, but they can't play well enough to hang with players like Brown.

That fourth quarter was a nightmare. Way too many jumps shots. Never driving to the basket. Joyner never establishing position down low. Olamide and Joyner shooting jump shots instead of layups. Brooke and Ariel looked very tentative; Ariel's shot just wasn't falling tonight. Surprised we didn't run some plays for her like we did against FSU.

Just very tentative overall in the fourth quarter. We looked confused on offense and let the pressure get to us.

But, effort was there most of the game. Team never gave up; but, just too much lack of execution in the fourth quarter.

There aren't many collegiate post players out there who can hang with Brown. But, we couldn't get her off the floor with foul trouble. She should have been called for a foul when Joyner drew her off her feet and she fell into Joyner's body, but no call. But, none of our post players were really making Kalani play defense as they were settling for jump shots instead of attacking the rim.

Didn't watch the game, but did Coach Aston try to double or triple team Brown or was she being played straight up. And yes, making Brown play defense on the other end is also key but none of the post players are back to the basket players.

We doubled some in the second half with mixed success. We were leaving the wrong spot on the floor open most of the time, but BU didn't always know to run there.

I don't think Joyner scored in the fourth quarter.

Weird game. Neither team was called for any kind of moving screen or pick. Refs seem to call those all the time. And, neither team really drew the traditional offensive charging foul when attacking the rim. We definitely weren't aggressive offensively if we don't get called for at least on charging foul.

We could have used Lang in the 4th quarter for rebounding, maybe a chance to get a second-chance basket. Was there any update on her injury?

There actually was a new sheriff in Waco about 2 weeks ago, and may be a new one in Oklahoma City (?) in about 2 more weeks. We played great on the whole, but it's hard to beat a team like Baylor when Kelsey is out most of the game and when Ariel is having an off shooting night. Tremendous effort. I like our chances against Baylor next time. Moooooo is right. We kind of lost it in the fourth quarter, but even so came within 3 points. Joyner is better in every way than Lauren Cox except in the 15 foot jump shot. When that gets better, we will be at another level. Kudos to the refs for shutting down Mulkey's ridiculous behavior right at the get go. Sure, we fouled Brown a lot, but not as much as they called us for. They were practically blowing the whistle before she even got the ball. I'm nervous about Kelsey's injury, but hopefully it isn't serious.

Aww man good game but is there a more classless coach than Mulkey? Not one word of praise for our team or great game. I dont like her.
So proud of our Ladies!

Don't like her yet she's a great coach. Constantly on the refs and it pays off with fouls. Ugh.

One thing we do know is we will not go to UConn. Will not see them till Final Four
How do we know that for sure? Lots of games left to play. If we don't win our next two games to end the regular season, then all of a sudden we've lost 3 of 4 games. If we don't get to the championship game of the Big 12 tourney, then the committee can "punish" us as they see fit.

We let Brown run wild. She was their entire team.
Why not triple team her? Still love this team and our coach. Kim knows things are changing and I'm sure it's driving her mad. I hate talking about next year ...however next year look at who Baylor loses and Texas gains. #HookEm

Big 12 Conference Champions !!!!
Baylor as always ......
Until we can recruit a beast or two in the paint, Baylor will continue to beat us. Our slow girls and skinny girls can't hang with the size Baylor brings.

Why do that? These players who are currently ranked #6 and split with Baylor have given us a great season so far this year.

Oh and Baylor still has to beat OU in Norman.

I would've liked our staff to get more creative defensively. Letting them just pound it into brown didn't force their other players to make plays. We've also got to do something with Bre. She's hindering or offense in a major way. I look for Iowa state and KSU to deploy the same game plan. Involve her in more on ball action could force the defense to account for her and maybe get her to make more of the entry passes into Joyner and Kelsey in the paint.

Also I'm noticing that everyone is crowning BU so soon. And that could work in our favor. Hoping they overlook their trip to Norman. A loss there would have us share the title.

Also @Malcom I agree re: Mulkey. I used to defend her until her spat with our players 2 seasons ago. I respect her ability to win, but aside from that she is flat out trailer trash. And I may be doing trailers a disservice. She sees the writing on the wall and knows her time standing alone at the top of the league is done. I look forward to round III as well as hoping we see them in the NCAA's.

Huge improvements every year for the last four years. #1 PG and #1 FWD coming next year. #7 Post eligible to play next year and 6'7" #3 coming in the year after that. Hell she may be 6"8"/6'9" by the time she gets here.

I've got ZERO complaints.

WCBBNUT....who is the # 7 post and #3 you are referring...

Based on this year, future looks bright.

Game would probably played out differently if KL had been available....when did she go out of game....

Wow what a game!!!

We still need mental toughness to close out quarters and close out games. They should run baseline to baseline for 10 minutes and then put 2 minutes on the clock. A team vs B team and first to score 12 points wins. If no team scores 12, do it over until a team wins. Or whatever 2 minute drill to practice closing out the quarter. We can't fall asleep at the end of the qtr. We have to play thru the end of the qtr. Not settle on being up by however many points. But stay in the flow and continue to SCORE!

3rd quarter we have to come out guns ablazing. We have to separate ourselves in the 3rd qtr. Make them run a mile, rest 10 minutes and then play 10 minutes of ball. I don't know what the drill should be but we must improve our focus and endurance. I KNOW WE CAN DO IT!

Im still glad I have my F4 tkts! I think we make noise this year at the tourny. And if we make it, OMG I can't even think about it right now. I feel like the Cowboy season all over again. Scared to say it but want to say it but scared to say it. LOL!

Jatari White transfer from South Carolina is eligible next season. She was overall #7 and actually the #1 Post in her class. Then Sedona Prince arrives the following year. At 6'7" as a HS Jr she is currently #9 overall and #3 Post. She is from Liberty Hill.

Thank you! I now recall the threads regarding them and what they bring to the team.

I agree that I really have no complaints. These girls play with a lot of heart!

CG has been a plus several times in recent games; just needs more experience. Kalani Brown just had an exceptional game and without her big production, Baylor loses! She is a tough one and can give 'anyone' fits. OU post may give her a tough game.

It's not like we haven't tired. For some reason we end up in the top 5 for a lot of these girls but they end up going elsewhere. Just as people keep saying we need to recruit better shooters. Well duh! But we seem to often miss out on some of the best shooters, but we did get Ariel and Brooke and we're on the right track.

I actually think we woulda won tonight with Lang and Jones both playing. Kelsey can't stop Brown, but at least she can slow her down. Watching CG sisters is like watching a crippled giraffe unfortunately. Plus we have no inside scoring without Kelsey so the defense can key on our shooters.

Joyner finished with 7 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes. That means she didn't score a single point in the second half, nor did get to the free throw line.
She was settling for jump shots above the fould line. She needs to drive thru the paint. We could have used Lang for muscle inside and she can hit those jump shots Joyner was missing.

You know I get being frustrated with players at times, but if you are a true fan of this program, WHY is it necessary to make such negative attacks against the CG sisters (above)? After a hard fought loss, I just don't think that is appropriate. Regardless of your impressions about these young ladies, they play as hard as anyone. That was really unnecessary.
