Band and Cheer Stuff

Ok, I'll be inappropriate AH poster here.

MARCHING BAND: PLAY THE EYES OF TEXAS as or when you are instructed or be a snowflake. Then you can leave the band / give up the scholarship you are unworthy of !!

So the Band members played the songs at the minstrel show allegedly, ban the band as well. All bands at UT should have to pay the price of this racist act that may or may not have happened. And the money raised supposedly supported the Track team. Ban the track team as well....

Meanwhile, these are the same people who voted for a president that called inner city schools jungles and fought against segregation. Make sense...

Honestly, this isn't one way or the other. This is just reasonable based on facts that a very diverse committee came up with.

This isn't old white guy or woke. It's what you should do after the committee found that the song, while performed in a minstrel show, has no racist basis in and of itself.

It's over. Move along.

Now the Alison's tour students are boycotting. Smh

I am getting rid of my Lexus because of the Pearl Harbor thing. Mercedes made cars for Hitler, who was as bad as Trump. And Hitler himself prompted the creation of the “Volks”wagon

I would buy a Ford but Henry was an anti-Semite

Chevrolet was a Frenchman and look what they did to Haiti

don’t know what to do

Trash
"Hitler- who was as bad as Trump"
A. You aren't suppose to talk politics here and B. That is one of the most unfounded, unsupported, irrational and absurd things I have ever heard.
And that is really saying something these days!

He is capable of speaking for himself, but I believe huisache is just lampooning the thought process (or lack thereof) behind most boycotts these days.

I get that.
It was funny...until the baseless and unrelated lie part.
...Though that was the part that made me laugh most, so...
:lmao:

For tradition’s sake, we MUST keep:

1. The Eyes of Texas
2. Texas Fight
3. March Grandioso
4. Yellow Rose of Texas

If it weren’t for that wonderful Pom squad routine to the song, I’d say we could ditch the Wabash Cannonball. If we will ever add any new songs, it will almost necessarily come at the expense of something we already play. So what song(s) could we see being dumped or downgraded to almost never being played?

Yes, we are most definitely deep into the off-season.

You had me until a mild suggestion to ditch Wabash Cannonball... there, I draw the line bro !!!

Long standing, beginning of the 3rd quarter rallying band expression !!

Deep in the Heart of Texas

AND, we are going to teach the NEW band director that "Texas Our Texas" was not written by or for Chuck Berry; don't bastardize it or disguise it, but rather play it the reverence it deserves!

Don’t mess with Texas, and don’t mess with the Wabash Cannonball. That’s been my ringtone for 10 years, the band version.

Not negotiable, although it does sort of discriminate, being offensively very gender specific. “She....”

“From the great Atlantic ocean to the wide Pacific shore
She climbs a flowery mountains o'er the hills and by the shore
She's mighty tall and handsome she's known quite well by all
She's a regular combination on the Wabash Cannonball
Listen to the jingle, the rumble and the roar
As she glides along the woodland o'er the hills and by the shore
Hear the mighty rush of the engine hear those lonesome hoboes call
Traveling through the jungle on the Wabash Cannonball
Well she came down from Birmingham one cold December day
As she pulled into the station you could hear all the people say
She's from Tennessee she's long and she's tall
She came down from Birmingham on the Wabash Cannonball
Here's to daddy Claxton may his name forever stand
And always be.

Longhorn Band.

"Originally introduced in 1970 by then director, Vincent R. DiNino, the “Wabash Cannonball” has become a famous Texas tradition. “Wabash Cannonball” was then legendary Longhorn football coach Darrell K. Royal’s favorite tune. Mr. DiNino thought it would be a great way to salute the three-time national championship winning coach, and it has remained a crowd favorite ever since, played between the third and fourth quarter of every football game."

Uhh, maybe you were trying to be funny or sarcastic?

If not, lame comparisons of Trump to Hitler totally undermined anyone's credibility on this topic IMHO.

Maybe you are not well read on the Third Reich and Hitlers failed Nazi regime to compare him to Trump, in any kind of honest way.

Anyone, anytime, in my opinion interjecting Hitler comparisons to Trump shows me they have no serious knowledge of Nazi Germany, Hitler or historic critical thinking skills: WHY don't you don't like Trump.... "he's bad, I just don't like him.. he's bad, you know, like Hitler." Pure ignorance.

I would say the same thing to anyone comparing any U.S. POTUS since FDR to Hitler.

Rant over.

So how the heck do we tie in this thread tangent to the Nazis (of all things) with a marching band...?

Listen, if the committee had come back with lots of evidence that it was a racist song, I'd be all for changing it.

Dispassioned reeason must guide our decisions. Yes, we need the passionate drive to fight for what's right.

But what's right must be based on reason. We must live with the truth whatever it is.

I understand these people want to fight racism. But they shouldn't fight windmills out of principle.

Worster: I was ridiculing the snowflakes. And poking fun at those who think Trump is the epitome of evil. Please assume when reading my posts that sound outrageous that it is Intentional.
Reductio ad absurdum is the Latin phrase

For the visually oriented:

These Pom Squad routines have certainly re-invigorated the song.

Thought this was a good place to post this. My niece made the Texas Cheer Pom squad today! She will be a freshman in August! Excited for her. It’s a month long process to get selected. She has worked hard for this!

Tell her "Congratulations" and you have a lot of "friends" who appreciate her hard work and dedication.

Congrats!

Here’s hoping she gets to cheer at many, many winning Longhorn games.

I’ll get back on the field again if I’m lucky. My little brother was a silver spur in The 90’s and they let us on the side lines back then. Probably not the case anymore. I got to talk to Tony Brackens for a minute at the 95’ Baylor game. Ah, Those were the days!

AC,

If she needs any tips on being on the sidelines, reach out to TexnSeattle, he did it for four years as a cheerleader. Really a good guy.
