2025 Updates, Transfers & Recruits

Anybody know when Fall ball starts at UT? I heard Schloss mention a potential date somewhere not long ago, but haven't heard anything since.
 
He signed on with the DirtBags of Long Beach State.

Not sure why our new coach didn't want to keep him, or if he just wanted to be 3 hrs closer by plane to home.

Maybe the new staff will look at Matthew Porchas, who signed with us and left before playing a game...

He put up a 0.86 WHIP at Walters State JC in Tennessee.

He seems to still like us, but he also seems to really like Notre Dame.

If you watch him throwing below, his spin rate gets up into the 2,600s RPM at times. Fastball sits in the low 90s MPH.

Tumis and Hudson Hamilton may be all we've got that can match that. (both of whom have nasty sauce on their breaking stuff)

  • Fastballs: The average spin rate for a fastball depends on the type of fastball:
    • Two-seam fastballs/sinkers: Average spin rate of around 2150 rpm


    • Cutters: Average spin rate of around 2350 rpm


    • Four-seam fastballs: In 2019, the average spin rate was roughly 2300 rpm
  • Curveballs and sliders: Typically have the highest raw spin totals, with an average spin rate of around 2430-2530 rpms


  • Splitters: In 2021, the average spin rate for a splitter was 1,290 RPMs
 
That's next years recruits, not concerned, we appear extremely deep in the bullpen after Schloss went to work, hoping we don't lose any more though but we have tons of talent on the pitching staff this coming season, mostly unproven but looks like the deepest staff we've had in years (quality wise).

Yeah the odds of this guy actually showing up to campus are what winning the lottery type odds. While most young just out of HS pitchers benefit from three years of college and with NIL you can get way more to go than you could even three years ago, its hard to see the best HS pitcher in country who is likely a 1-3 round pick in a college uniform.
