2025 Recruiting - WBB

Chavez had 44 points in second round of playoffs on Thursday. Monterey plays Ft Worth Brewer on Tuesday night February 18 at 6 pm. Articles are listing the same destination culprits. Culprits that Horns have already defeated this year.

Do you have a link to the article(s)?

Miss Chavez take note that the South Carolina at Texas game was the most watched game of the season on ESPN and the LSU at Texas game was the fourth most-viewed of ALL TIME across ESPN platforms with 1.7 Million viewers and peaking at 2.3 Million.

Hold on. Not so fast my friend. They are 3-11 in Conference. All they need is Chavez.
BREAKING NEWS! That conference record sure looked good yesterday……3-12 now after loss to Cincinnati last night. On a roll. I feel a little bad piling on to Raider woes…..but they make it so easy. Seven losses in a row……what a streak.

I mean, come on—they did lose their all-everything PG in the transfer portal after last season.

*whoops! did I say that out loud?

In today’s DMNews, a ENTIRE page on Chavez. Monterey plays Argyle tomorrow and perspective from coaches on how to stop her. It’s too large to copy and it’s behind paywall. Perhaps someone smarter than me can figure out how to share.

Don't know anything about her or her family, but I can envision a career at TT that includes NIL$, school records, maybe some national records, no conf championships, a win or 2 in the tournament and probably some pro activity - a Jackie Stiles type with a lovely life on the Plains. Of course, being totally biased, I also see her on an SEC and national championship team, Longhorn record holder, pro star, jersey hanging in Moody, maybe an Olympian ... seems to be more possibilities at Texas, but none of us can predict.

TT donor has spent boatloads of money on football and $1million for softball pitcher - whom we beat last week. They can buy more players and a new coach, if necessary.

I don't think for one minute that Chavez will pick Texas. Would love to eat turkey, but she'll be in for the money and for a college which will give her free reign with her scoring game.

Think Pete Maravich. Well the female version.

My instinct says she stays home and becomes a hometown hero. Again, I'm betting that if Tech found $1M for a softball player from Kansas (via Stanford), they'll find it (and then some) for their local superstar.

Contrarian here. I’m picking Texas. Schaefer has only one recruit. Last year he had 3. One is not enough….even with the portal. He’s holding the second for Chavez. If you think differently, then sue him for mismanagement of roster. There’s simply too many excellent reasons for her to pick Horns. If Monterey loses tomorrow night, she might announce cause her high school career is over. No reason to wait till NCAA Dance is complete as little additional information to be gleaned. So April is next milestone period to sign. Of course she might wait until high school graduation and stealthily head to Austin in late May. It would be irrational to think she’d wait until classes start in June. All this to say…..I’m selling my house and betting it all on Texas.

I think Texas is firmly in the mix. I know there’s reasons for it but I think picking Tech would be a big mistake. She’s of course good enough to overcome it, but the world has better things in store than what Texas Tech could add. If not Texas honestly I hope she goes to UCLA. Cori Close is not my favorite coach by any means but it’s a great stage for Chavez to shine. I just think Texas is a better one and the Coach is way better.

Let’s face it, Gerlich is probably out of there if she can’t land Chavez. Might be the best thing to happen to the Lady Raiders if they finally make a smart hire to replace her.

There was a tweet a couple of weeks ago that UCLA is no longer under consideration.

Maybe so but there was an article in USA Today about her dropping 50 in a playoff game this week that still listed UCLA as one of her favorites.

Well, you can choose to trust USA Today, or you can trust Talia Goodman from On3 who has dropped more accurate info on twitter about Chavez than any other reporter over the last year or so

Yay or nay I’d still rather she pick UCLA if not Texas. I don’t really care which source is correct, it’s not a pissing contest (at least not for me).
There’s nothing really definitive about Chavez choice anyway it seems.
