I can understand why Chaves plays the point or her high school and club teams; wit the ball in her hand, she is a thread to shoot or drive to the basket every possession. She doesn't have to wait for teammates to get her the ball.
I don't if know her future is at PG or SG in college and professionally. She lists herself at 5'10; so, she's definitely not undersized.
I think there are 5 teams who are the biggest threats to land her:
Oklahoma: relatively close to home. Coach B is all about offense. Aaliyah would most likely average 20 points a game as a freshman. But, she wouldn't be taught how to play defense.
LSU: relatively close to home (but still a long drive). Recent national championship, hall of fame head coach who is also a former Olympian and collegiate PG, NIL opportunities. Large home crowds. Defensive-minded head coach.
South Carolina: far from home. Recent national championship, hall of fame head coach who is also a former Olympian and collegiate PG, NIL opportunities. Large home crowds. Defensive-minded head coach.
Texas: close to home. Would have the chance to succeed Rori at the PG spot. We can't match Mulkey and Staley as far as their PG backgrounds. Our home crowds are getting better, and will get better once we join the SEC. Defensive-minded head coach. So many former Cy-Fair elite teammates on the roster.
Texas Tech: stay home and be the big fish in a small pond. I don't doubt that Tech will get her an NIL opportunity as big as or bigger than any other competitor. The question to me is will Gerlich survive after this coming season, or the following season? I don't think they will make the NCAA tourney; it's been forever since they have. Does that matter to Chavez? Does she want to win at the highest level? If so, Tech is far from that level. As far as Tech landing Chavez, they might need to fire Gerlich after this season and hope a new head coach will bring enough "newness" and excitement to make Chavez overlook their NCAA tournament drought.
