2025 Recruiting - WBB

Aaliyah's Dad, Sonny, has as story on IG where he put a photo of his daughter and Rori standing side-by-side at a Texas practice (Sunday morning?) where they are both holding Dave Campbell's Basketball magazine, but each is holding the other's cover page photo!

I mean, if that doesn't mean she's coming to Texas, I don't know what does!

It’s fun seeing highlights of Chavez. It seems like she’s been on the radar FOREVER…..but she’s still a junior. I for one love offensive oriented point guards. And one with flair like Chavez. Wherever she goes, she’ll bring fans in. Sure hope to see her at Moody soon.

I just saw a headline on 24/7 Longhorns recruiting which said that UT was having a big recruiting weekend for women's bball. I'm too cheap to spend a dollar to read the story. This weekend doesn't make sense because they are out of town. There was a picture of a player I didn't recognize. I'm assuming they they are recruiting for 2025 or 2026.

Aaliyah Chaves and her Monterrey teammates attended our game at Tech on Wednesday night (based on a photo in her Instagram story). I've been jokingly wanting her to re-classify to the class of 2024 in order to graduate early (and of course commit to us and join our program). Now with Rori's upcoming rehab, we could sure use Chavez for 2024-25.

I really like our chances with Chavez! Imagine Rori, Booker, and Chavez out on the wing. Wow!
I think Rori would be gone if she came unless she gets a red shirt for this year. May depend on the amount of games we play this year.

Help me to understand this.
You can get a red shirt if you only play a certain percentage of the total team games for the year? Correct?
So, if we don’t get far in the post season we would not have enough games for her to make her percentage, but if we say, make it to the sweet 16 she would?

I believe the rule is "less than a third of the teams total games" or something like that... not sure though. With Rori having played 12 games, we have to at least play 37. So far we've played 21 with 10 remaining regular season conference games which will total 31.

We would need three games in the Big 12 tournament (assuming we make the top four seeds) which means we'd have to make the final. Then we'd need 3 games in the NCAA's which would mean making the Sweet 16. If both my rule interpretation and math are both correct, we've got our work cut out for us.

Yikes. Adds a bit of pressure to the post season eh? Rori might be doing some serious coaching on the sidelines. Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated!

Texas women’s basketball signees Justice Carlton, Jordan Lee named for 2024 McDonald’s All-American Game

I'm confused so maybe you can explain it to me.

Though it turned out successful, Carlton’s season did not start as she had hoped. At the Nike Nationals in July 2023, Carlton suffered a knee injury. She tore her MCL and ACL along with lateral and medial meniscus.

So she tore her MCL and ACL in July 2023, had surgery in August 2023 and is going to play(?) in the McDonald's AA game? Or is that a symbolic invitation?

She returned to HS play in mid-December.

With Mulkey and LSU recruiting heavy for Chavez, I think UT should be prepared for LSU to present a significant NIL deal to her. I don't pretend to know what top women bball players are being offered, but my perception of Mulkey is that she can be ruthless in recruiting. Unfortunately, I think NIL will push the ethical boundaries of recruiting until there are some regulations.

NIL is not supposed to be discussed until the recruitment process is over. We all know LSU is violating that, and I'm sure they're not the only ones. Spreading play money all over the hotel room of a visiting recruit tells me all I need to know about LSU.
I'll say this though... there are very few direct flight destinations from Lubbock, and Austin is one of them. That flight is an hour and ten minutes, and the drive is about six hours. How much time and expense is associated with a flight from Lubbock to Baton Rouge? How long is that drive?

I'm still surprised LSU struck out (so far) with the 2024 recruiting class, especially coming off a national title in April 2023. That only makes Mulkey more desperate with the 2025 recruiting class.

I think our projected back court depth chart for 2025 and proximity are great attractions for Chavez; she's visited us more than any other school. When she attends basketball games at Tech, most of the time we're TT's opponent in Lubbock. I'm really liking the "freeness" Vic is allowing Booker to play with; that might really open Chavez's eyes as it proves Vic knows how to use a scoring point guard, and not just a passing/penetrating point guard like Rori.

It should also be an attraction that Justice Carlton, Chavez's Cy Fair Elite teammate, will be playing at Texas.

It somewhat concerns me that Ti-Hina PaoPao has had so much success this season at South Carolina. Staley has a blue print to show Chavez how she will fit into South Carolina's system. Staley has mentioned that she needs another PaoPao.

Wow, thanks. Is this free (i.e. no cheesy streaming service needed)?
I believe so it was posted on Facebook by a guy in Lubbock that works for the KCDB TV station (Sports Director). It can be streamed using Roku through their station as well but I don’t have Roku so didn’t pay attention to the instructions.

Hope this works and a decent broadcast. They had to get UIL approval
