2025 Recruiting - WBB

It seems early as not many 2025 players have made verbal commitments, but once a few fall, it could cause a snowball effect.

Of the four Top 25 players who have made verbal commitments, two of them are listed as point guards, and two as (shooting) guards. PG's are like QB's in football or setters in volleyball; only one is in the game at any given time, and typically a school takes only one at those positions per recruiting class, so securing your spot before someone else grabs it could increase the sense of urgency in making their selection.

2025 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings - Terrific 25 - ESPN

P.S. I'm still holding out hope that Aaliyah Chavez re-classifies to the class of 2024 and comes to Texas. It will be interesting to see if NIL increases the number of girls hoopsters graduating high school a year early.

It would be nice to see Chavez play in state tournament and get a feel for a full game. Mansfield Timberview won big last night and is my favorite for state in this 5A bracket. Amarillo is always tough.

Crazy 5 OT (yes FIVE OTs) game between Monterey and Amarillo tonight! Monterey finally prevailed. Here's Chavez forcing the first OT:

Post-game interview with Chavez (the 2nd video in this tweet). They went after her all night and knocked her out of the game for awhile. Monterrey was down 10 going into the 4th Qtr:

Ayla McDowell of Cypress Springs is quickly becoming my favorite recruit in the 2025 class. She is a 6'2" forward that is strong, athletic and likes banging around under the bucket.

McDowell's combined stats from Cypress Springs last two playoff games are 51 points, 23 rebounds and 10 blocks. That's impressive and she's only a sophomore.

She is currently #23 on the HoopGurlz Fabulous 25 and I expect she'll climb in the rankings after basketball season is over.

McDowell had an unofficial visit to Texas last September. She follows TxWBB, our coaches and players on IG and "likes" most every photo/reel that is posted by our coaches and players.

Take a look at a couple of her highlight videos;

She’s impressive. Hope we can sign her. :hookem:

We gotta win the State of Texas
Agreed! For whatever reason Texas WBB has never done what I'd call "outstanding" with national recruiting. Even going back to the glory days, those teams were largely comprised of in-state recruits. We have occasionally gotten top-level recruits from out of state over the years, but nothing compared to volleyball or some other sports... not even compared to places like Wacko. I don't get it.
