2025 Recruiting - Football

Sure I will play nice but when I hear a player choosing a school because it’s a “business decision” versus he has a good relationship with a coach or other relatable reasons, I can’t be anything but jaundiced. I suppose I can direct my ire at the system instead of a particular player.
Agreed it should be directed to the system. I think we’ve had our share of players who made a business decision to attend the 40 .

I believe business decisions are being made by the players and the schools. The deadline of signing day is producing some deep pockets. The difficulty in retaining a player is that if you give him more, then the others will also want more. It's a very tricky situation. But as others try to flip ours, so to we are trying to flip theirs.

And yeah, it is very annoying to watch a player flip to a school that we've beaten. We're ranked #2 and own the state, yet somehow, it's not good enough. So, we know what's going on. The money is on the table now, so you know, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." All major colleges have fun environments and good enough academics though UT is higher ranked in academics than many of our competitors. So the bidding war separates them out.

Must have been the overalls.

It's hard to stomach the difficulty in recruiting DT's these days given how we have shown the world our DT's perform at an elite level. The $$$ must be really flowing in that direction. I guess there's only so much to go around.

Youth is wasted on the young. If only we here at Hornfans could go back and be 4 and 5 stars at all the necessary positions (we can't all be tight ends) and knowing what we know now about Texas vs. well anybody. What a recruiting class Sark would put together without even having to leave his office.

This might explain the Hilson news, but Auburn's On3 mod saying things aren't looking good for DL Nate Marshall.

It's possible Michigan made him a great offer as well, but IT had him as an Auburn vs. Texas battle as of this morning.

Recruiting has become all about he benjamins!!!

Quick note from OTF...

"There is another prospect out there committed to another school that Texas is trying to make a late run at. Not trying to be a tease, but we aren't releasing the name yet - like this morning we didn't."

Sure, but since when has it been a smart business decisions to not choose Texas? Stanford, sure. But OU? Come on.

Short-sighted decisions in my opinion. Some things like relationships with coaches, playing time, system, and being close to momma are things that hard to put a price on. But if it was all about the dollars, you need to think long term as well. I suspect agents are getting their cut, which pushes recruits to schools with cash in hand and not much else. There is a word for this type of thinking but I promised to play nice.

I dont really believe very many of these are "business decisions". I would love to see how the NIL deals are structured but these kids are getting an insane amount of money thrown at them to play for one college or the other. There are 10-15 premier football schools and all of these will get them to the next level but they dont all offer the same post playing career support. Sark seems to have a very solid rep in the recruit world but he is not lock down Texas Mack Brown which can be good and bad. Hate losing any elite kids to out of state schools but we cannot have them all.

If you recall, the scuttle butt is that Texas doesn’t pay top dollar for DT since there is a high bust rate for that position. In other words, not a good ROI.

Dude you are taking the term " businees decision" too literally.

His goal has always been to find where he can hit the field the fastest. Coupled with the relationship he has with Bill Bedenbaugh and the NIL he is receiving being the jewel of their class , equals....." business decision".

Good for him. However a business decision implies an impersonal decision, which is at odds with some of what you said. Maybe the broader point is that I shouldn’t take anything a recruit says literally.
