2024 Texas Rangers

News this morning that Evan Carter is being shut down for the year. Jung was in the lineup last night so he is back for the final 52 games and we will have to see how he comes back from his extended IL stint. Bradford was rusty last night in his return, giving up 5 runs in two innings of work relieving Scherzer who could only go four innings in a loss.

Rangers getting drubbed again this afternoon and it will be a 1-5 road trip and 5-6 since the All Star break. 5 plus games back and 5 games under .500 says maybe Texas should have moved a couple more of those expiring contracts yesterday/

Rangers get rolled by Boston to start home stand and Scherzer is headed to IL. Worster I am right there with you bud, I too am very low.

A much-needed W against the Bosox. Need to win today to win the series. Can't count on the Astros and Mariners to collapse - Rangers need to go on an extended winning streak.

Rangers stop the losing streak at three (had also lost 6 of last 7 before yesterday). Cody Bradford got the start and went 3 2/3 but fell behind 3-0 before LeClerc relieved him and then the offense bailed him out. LeClerc got the win but the Rangers are now 4-0 in games Bradford has started this year. Eovaldi is on the mound today as Texas looks to get a series win and climb back to .500 since the All Star Break and 4 games under .500 for the year.

Rangers lose the rubber match to Boston 7-2 as Eovaldi gets knocked around. Six games under .500 again and this team as it has pretty much all season just has the look of a 75-78 win team.

Houston is coming in for what I had hoped would be one of those critical series for tiebreaker purposes but really has turned into a just for pride and state wide bragging rights series at this point. The season series is tied at 5 so the winner of this series wins the silver boot and that is just about the only thing Texas may win this year. Unfortunately, with its bottom three starters going I don't have much hope in getting even that little consolation.

Monday vs. ASTROS:

BOTTOM 9TH - 1 out, 2 - 2....

Langford gets 10 pitch walk. Balk moves him to 2nd!

Lowe still at bat,but strikes out.

Garcia at bat, 2 outs and chance to win this game...

Hell yes!!! I'm so FIRED UP!!!

Josh Smith WALK OFF - CRUSHING HR - 2 RBI to win:

4 -3 !!!!

Nice walk-off W - and the Rangers really needed that W. Winning tomorrow would be very good. Seattle was idle tonight - they start a series with Detroit tomorrow.

Mahle has strong start and goes five innings giving up just one run but the Rangers don’t get a hit until two outs in the ninth and lose 4-2. Seager’s two run shot broke up the no hitter which frankly was some small consolation. Rubber match tomorrow to decide the series and decide the silver boot.

Rangers drop the rubber match this afternoon 6-4 and lose the silver boot 7-6. Seven games under .500 and at this point it is just getting 2025 lined up by seeing what a rotation might look like, a bullpen might shake out and figuring out how to back up the bank truck and pay Eovaldi to stick around and maybe Yates too.

Davis had better realize that with no pitching for the first 2/3's of the season, the Rangers had little room to get into the playoffs. Then offensive injuries killed any chance.

Leave CY alone and let him do his thing and 2025 will be different.

It definitely worked in 2023. Imagine the concept:

-The Owner, who provides the financing
-The GM, who makes the personnel decisions
-The Field Manager, who manages the game on the field

It would be nice if Jerry Jones would adopt that same concept for the Cowboys.

Jerah's response would be, "You didn't like those 3 Super Bowl victories?"

Jerah stuck in the '90's.

Jerah stuck in the '90's.
And my response to Jerah would be the following:
"The Cowboys won those in the early 90s because you had a head coach who would stand up to you and make the football decisions. You couldn't stand sharing the spotlight with Jimmy, so you fired him - and we haven't been to the Super Bowl since. But you got your wish - you are the face of the Cowboys and don't have to share the credit for success - mainly because there has been no more success."

On their way to New York yesterday the Rangers stopped off in DC to get honored as the World Series Champs. There are no politics in baseball so my only comment is a question about why the visit didn't happen before the season, seems like a weird scheduling quirk.

Cody Bradford is on the mound tonight for his second post-injury start.

The unusual is a quick recognition. The club/school has to decide who goes and then pay for the trip. That takes time, so the pro teams generally arrange it on a trip to the east coast.

Rangers split the doubleheader with the Yanks. There haven't been many consistent bright spots this year but Cody Bradford early on and now in the two starts since he came back from his very extended IL visit has been outstanding and he gets his fourth win against no defeats in the nightcap.

Seager hit his 24th home run and should get to 30 homers again this season even as he is some 50 plus points lower in batting average at .271than he hit last year and 19 points lower than his career average of .290. Though to be fair his .327 last year was the second-best year of his career batting average-wise.

Rubber match tomorrow in the Bronx.
