2024 Softball Season

Isn't it time for us to win the services of one of these highly sought after transfers?
Just saying :bevo:
Just my opinion, I think the things that have been used against us were:

1. Mike White can't improve pitchers - jury still out on that. Has a pitcher [cough, Sophia Simpson, cough] gotten better since she arrived?
2. Texas teams don't give you run support - quashed that these last few years
3. Texas defense is god awful - still valid

OU:

1. When they ignore their "lesser" pitchers and focus on the stars, they improve their pitching
2. Always have had good hitting
3. Always have had good defense

That's what they see!

Was our fielding worse this year? I thought it was better. I would hope one of these players, one of these years would want what we can offer. We have a very good school with alot to offer. We are top 10% at least. And as far as the pitching goes I thought we may have had our best chance of winning it all when we had the pitcher from Indiana in 2020 who was the top pitcher of her class.
I just want someone like Nijaree to give us a chance.:bevo:

I guess you're right? Surprised that OU was worse than us in defense last year.

Totally expected. The only thing I was counting on was that a

Stanford diploma >>> OU diploma

I guess a ring is more important?

Remember that Stanford (and Cal) is now in the ACC. Travel for that affiliation will be brutal, even for young people. They’ll have 3-4 hour flights and 2-3 time zone changes, plus they’ll miss more classes due to travel days. No idea if these kids think about the value of their diploma, but maybe she likes the color orange.

I really dont understand why everyone thinks Canady js gojng to OU…they are not going to be that good, even if they get her. They lost 3 pitchers, their catcher, sexond base, ss, thirdbase, LF and CF. You're not replacing these players (a core that won 4 championships in a row) with players you have on the bench or even in the portal. If she goes to OU it will be no different than what she has at Stanford (no offense) at least for the coming year. Not saying she’s coming to Texas but people need to be real about what OU has, or doesn’t have.

Past history has shown she's taken several transfer pitchers (and fielders) and got them WCWS rings.

And with the 3-year starts gone, transfers in know there really will be a competition for the job. Of all years, next year is the most attractive to transfers!

She’s taken 1 or 2 players and added them to a core that won 4 in a row. That core is not there anymore. You’re not adding 1 or 2 players to their current roster to make them contenders next year. They have nothing close to the offensive weapons they’ve had the. There are too many gaps for OU to fill by getting 1 or 2 players.

I can’t find any confirmation that Canady has entered officially but Mia Scott and Canady recently started following eachother yesterday or today.

Yeah, I thought of the outrageous irony if someone took a right turn, instead of a left, on her way back from the West Coast.

If you know anything about softball you know that in the last 10 years they don't rebuild. They reload. As far as Canady going there. It's closer to home and it pains me to say. They win.

A note from the SF Chronicle from yesterday.

"Stanford ace NiJaree Canady is set to enter the transfer portal after the USA Softball Player of the year led the Cardinal to consecutive Women’s College World Series appearances, including this past season.

Canady led the country with a 0.73 ERA and 337 strikeouts to average 10.2 strikeouts per seven innings. She will have two years of eligibility left wherever she goes."

There was a coach on Twitter who said, "I'm just going to say this once and be done. It's not the portal it's the NIL that's the root problem"

Dude, in order to reach your NIL pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, you need the portal.

I'm fine with NIL, even if it means OU reloads. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. We have....what over $230K of NIL spent of softball? To me that equates to "scholarship money" whereas before half the team had to pay it's own way.

OU is not going to ever come down from their heights until Patti retires. And my unproven opinion is she won't retire until she is the coach with the most WCWS championships AND at least two of them are in the SEC.

She won't be coming to Texas. OU has a huge hole in their pitching rotation that says, "Come be the daily starter".

Maxwell was a very good pitcher that sometimes had her bats fail to support her. This last year Canady was pitcher of the year, yet her Stanford bats went quiet when she needed them. OU doesn't have that problem, ever.
You may be right but you also could be wrong. What many are saying here is true, This will not be the same ole OU. Patti had a great core the last 4 years to build around but success moving foward will not be automatic. I say the last 4 years made OU great...before that they were very good but not the "great one" they are today.
As far as NiJaree Canady...I'm just gonna cross my boots and wait and see. :bevo:

They never lost an entire team of players before either. It’s easy to reload when you only have to replace a few players/spots. This isn't the same OU.

Ou lost a lot of offense and will not be the same team. Not only that they lost a lot of senior leadership that rallied their team when they were down. There isn’t anyone eye popping in the portal who will make up what they lost in their seniors. Unless their freshman come in and have the same success as their senior class Texas is still the better team even if they do get Canady.

She will have to be the workhorse for that team just like she was at Stanford so if I’m Mike he needs to pitch that at Texas she can have an actual staff behind her so she doesn’t have to take all the innings and have a great offense to back her up which she didn’t have at Stanford and honestly might not have at Oklahoma.

That's a good pitch.

I got excited about the mention of Texas along with OU. But then I realized it was from a Longhorn fan site, which means hometown bias.

Are we sure we want her ? We'll have to listen about her story blah blah to infinity from ESPN... I kid I kid...

I thought the same thing but there is actually a legit chance for Texas here. NIL is important but so is the education aspect ESPECIALLY for her family. I’d still say Oklahoma is the favorite at this point but our players are starting to follow her so I’m hoping we get her on a visit.

That article also says we are expected to go all in for Canady and if Texas goes all in we can definitely outbid Oklahoma. Need a donor to just give about 1 mil and we can get her:e-face-tears:

Considering how she chose Stanford over OU to begin with, hopefully quality of education is a big priority for Canady.

Excellent point. A Stanford education and a Texas education may be comparable - but I doubt anyone would consider Zero U in that category.
