2024 Recruiting - WBB

Dad and daughter had a night out to watch the game. I told her there might be a Texas coach or two there tonight. Her Aggie response was…..”I hope not”. We both scanned the stands but couldn’t identify any burnt orange folks. Side note….this game deserved more fan support. It’s tough to drive from Denton or Grand Prairie for a 6 pm tip-off. The fans that were there saw a fun and well played game. And this old referee can say…..the referees were simply outstanding. I didn’t see one bad call. And neither coach had any words. We had Whataburger afterwards to debrief. She knows way more basketball than me. It doesn’t get any better than a night out watching basketball with your baby girl.

Parker finished with 15. SGP will next play Coppell. Coppell best Highland Park tonight by 13 with Amendola scoring 17. Coppell is 35-3 so SGP will have their hands full. In watching both teams play this week, I am picking SGP by 8. I just think SGP’s full court pressure and the pressure on Coppells guards will make the difference. Coppell lacks size as well. But Coppell has a chance. The DMNews says Tac has an “undisclosed injury”. She was there but hobbling with a boot on foot/ankle.

DMNews says Parker had an Achilles strain. Missed 2 months and only played last 3 regular season games. Coach said she was winded at times. I wondered why she got subbed out early. She was in and out several times. However the SGP coach subbed frequently so probably not unique.

So quick with that 3-point shot I almost didn't see it! :D

Justice really could be a true stretch-four player due to her shooting range. We don't really have that with Gaston, Moore, or Muhammad (although Moore might be able to even though her strength inside is so valuable).

Interview with Taliyah. Nothing about college, but she acknowledges that South Grand Prairie plays defense.

Great interview. Parker seems perfect for Vic's style of play. She talks Vic's language of running and conditioning to get into shape for playing defense, the importance of defensive stops, supporting your teammates, etc...

Carlton has such a nice shooting touch; I especially like that she has a perimeter game (to help against zone defenses).

An all in-state class of Tac, Parker, and Carlton is what I think is most likely; would love to get PG Cambridge, but my confidence with out-of-state prospects is lower until official visits are taken.

Tac, Parker, and Carlton would be amazing, but I'm still torn on PG. Chavez coming up in '25 and I don't think both Cambridge and Chavez would go to the same team. Plus, the other '25s that Chavez is close to are also must-gets. These two classes could really help us make a statement when we walk into the SEC.

Tac, Parker, Carlton, Cambridge, Chavez (2025). All pie in the sky on a cold Thursday for me. Yes…”some indicators of interest” from all. Indicators are all in varying degrees….unofficial visits, Twitter posts, Instagram, other? I don’t get the feeling that Horns are in the lead for all….or any. I guess it’s no different from any other year…..and will eventually play out this spring/summer…..or later. But I am impatient and want commitments NOW! I watched the Monterey video…..and wondered if I wasted time on a recruit that will play somewhere else. I need to have a more positive outlook. In the interim will journey to Ft. Worth on Friday to watch Southlake Carroll vs Coppell. Should be a great game.

If not Texas, who DO you get the feeling is in the lead for each of these recruits then?

If Vic is able to pull an elite 2024 (Cambridge or McMiller), the sales pitch to Chavez should be that she can get minutes at PG and SG considering her ability to score from all over the court.

I have no info but just looking and being honest. Carlton is interested she’s been to several games but I think the interest is mild. Parker is new to Texas and OU is going to have a hell of a pitch to get her to come home and if she traveled to Texas to HS then traveling to another to state to hoop is def in question for her. She is ? because she’s just now on the scene maybe a year ago nobody knew of her so that’s good and bad because we don’t know who spoke to her on the ground floor of her recruitment. Tac we don’t know how she’ll come from this ACL injury and TAC is smart so look for academic schools to be in the mix for her as well no saying that Texas is lackluster in academics just saying. Chavez I think we got in on the ground floor of her recruitment and she is about 5’9-10 so she will play regardless of who is here because of her elite shot creation and making and clutch gene. Cambridge is a toss up as well she outta state with 2 sisters else where I believe so it’s house money. But 24 is a important class because 22&23 classes were pieces classes good players but pieces to 21 class IMO. 24&25 will be hiers to the throne.Which how he did it at MState

Is the move to the SEC going to impact recruiting?
I think it could if we play it up that way. Let's face it, the Big12 is not what it was. The top two teams are leaving. The bailer dynasty is gone. And IowaSt has to replace way too much and never was that dominant in the first place. The conference is not as strong this year as it was last year, and once we leave, there will be a definitive void. So I would think if you are a top recruit, you'd much rather play in the SEC than stay in the Big12. And Vic is no stranger to the SEC. They all know he's coming in there with the foulest of intentions - to give everyone hell and play for championships.

Justice Carlton was at LSU for their game against Mississippi State. There were over 14K fans in attendance. (This is according to IG stories of Justice Carlton's mom.)

Although it is inevitibale, I loathe battling Mulkey for recruits.

Vic said on Gameplan today that he would be out recruiting tonight, despite the fact that its his birthday. He must be referring to a playoff game. Anyone have any idea which game he might be attending?

I don't know if we've offered Ariana Roberson yet (she doesn't show us as one of the offers on her twitter feed, but she has taken unofficials to Texas), but many many other P5 programs have. And she just led SA Clark what is probably its first State Championship ever, and did so in the 6A Division against powerhouse DeSoto, avenging last years' lost to them in the semis. Ariana went off for 24 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals tonight at the Alamodome and was named MVP. She's a great defender. I really hope we offer. Comes from a great hoops family. Here's some highlights from the local news:
