2024/25 Portal Transfers

I don’t think anyone know anythings. It’s mostly click bait.

The sources of which I am aware, including someone who speaks with his father almost daily, have consistently said that he is declaring.

No click bait. No internet chatter.
Didn't say he was leaving only that
there are murmurs.
Time will tell.

Nothing wrong to have back-up plans for worse case scenarios.

To restate the obvious still another time, the game that we all know and love is being bastardized because of a toothless NCAA, and massive greed. I say that knowing that perhaps more than any other school, Texas stands to benefit — and is benefitting, massively — from the current landscape. That’s because, “We are the Jones,” and we have the money. Regardless, college football is killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

An NFL model is coming. And not fast enough.

Agree - call it College Free Agency.

The NIL / portal MAYBE started off as an idea that had some merit.

However, it blew up, too few rules and destroyed the whole concept of Scholar-Athlete. Play a sport, receive a scholarship - free education (preferably with a degree) that you can use in the real world after college eligibility is up or after playing your sport on a professional level.

So, some of the best talented players will get good to real serious NIL monies that will insure their financial futures, others will get little or nothing I suspect. Unfortunately, a college education / degree becomes far less important to many.

IMHO, NIL will also unfairly harm programs that cannot possibly compete with big NIL $$$ like UT.

The Supreme Court determined that the previous system was unconstitutional (rightfully so) & left it to someone else (NCAA?) to establish guardrails. However, NOBODY has established reasonable rules surrounding NIL & portal. Thus we have the wild wild west in college sports. I don't think the schools or the athletes are to blame for this mess. I don't have the answer. Hopefully some genius will figure it out.

They need to just disband the NCAA and replace it with a legit system.

Wonder how often thats been stated in the last ____ years

Oliver Luck, graduate of The University of Texas School of Law, #1 in his class while commuting weekly from Houston and playing for the Oilers, HAS to be the head of the replacement organization.

Yeah. You could cross-out the word "game" and replace it with the word "country" and replace a few more words but this is the wrong board for that.

The A&M program is very poor at player development.
But….but….The Elk declared that “…we’re building a PROGRAM!”

Seems to me that the BMDs are nothing but ATMs to fund buying players that lead to 8-5, a new coach every 4-5 years (w/ 10’s of $$$ millions in buyouts), and portal participation in the 70% range.

Does that sound like a PROGRAM! you’d invest in?

No, the Golden Corral in College Station would be a better investment.

Convicts are broke, plus Quinn has too much class for Coral Gables
Well, they could buy him on credit or maybe they know bad things about him or his family..... Anything is possible. College ball is about to go full blown gangster/mafia. Classy behavior.... I'm an old cynic and pessimist and I've seen classy behavior turn into other things when times get really tough.

Sounds like any government program you want to name. "We know we didn't do anything we said we were going to do, but its not our fault. We just need more money and everything will be fine. You'll see."
