2024/25 Portal Transfers

All of this will inevitably lead to a battle of the wealthiest alums and their egos to buy talent and generate championships for their chosen institution. And you know that some portion of those millions will be employed in the dark arts to prevent competing parties from claiming their trophies because this is war. College football programs will quite literally become pawns in an arms race — who is there to stop it? Just give it time.

Beware of the random self-made-billionaire alum of Middle Tennessee State or Toledo or Georgia Southern turning their alma mater into a title contender in three years.

^^^. Texas Tech is in that path now

So if you're Quinn and you decide transferring is better than going to pro, should he get into the portal and enroll somewhere in January? I don't know the transfer windows and I'd think he would want to get on with it.

I think he's one of those guys that it doesn't matter when he hits the portal. There aren't many with that kind of leeway, but he's up there.

Miss spring practice? They don't care if he can show up the week after class is out in May.

I wanna buy a football player! Can I rename him? Maybe he could do some yard work, too.

Dion, you nailed it. Some body with some real authority (and it's clearly not the NCAA) is going to have to specify some real controls on NIL and the portal and enforce those controls - Congress, perhaps? Otherwise, you're right - it will become uncontrolled open warfare for athletes.

Yeah. I was thinking more of his personal development to improve his draft stock. Can he show up in the summer, learn the offense and be better than he is now? It could really backfire even worse.

Mercenaries don't always work out the way you planned. Just ask aggy.

Well, you know, they have to move, get acclimated, count their money, flash their money, check out all the new talent (chicks), learn the plays/scheme, old injuries they didn't disclose, hype to fill a need... all the above. It's a thing.

The more I read, the more I believe part of this does have to do with academic progress, not just NIL. If you can transfer every year to a new school, you don't have to worry about grades or even classes. I'd be shocked if a football coach wanted a player that concessions weren't made to get that athlete in school. I wonder (but highly doubt) if anyone is planning on tracking academic progress to see the impact. And before anyone says it, I know, college footbal today doesn't have anything to do with academics anymore. And that's a shame.

The Leaders of tomorrow...

Blucky
Sark in a presser not long ago tracked the avg Grade Point average of team. When he took over it was something like 2.25. It has increased every year as has Sark pointed out did the record. Going into this year it is 3.4.
Sark certainly believes in student athletes who study.

I'd bet Sark is the one of the few exceptions who consider this...

On3 wrote Pudue TE Max Klare will decide between A&M, Louisville, Michigan and Texas.

He'll be at Louisville today and will make a decision quickly after that.

Texas is out. We were signicantly outbid. Aggie out. Ohio State is in the mix with Louisville and Michigan.
