2023 Transfer Portal

Not good, not good at all. So Terry gets the job and he says great, he gets to stay committed and now wants out? I’m gonna guess that someone showed up with a wheel-barrow full of nil money. The transfer portal, nil, and one and done have all but ruined college basketball, not that it wasn’t slimy with street agents before that so it didn’t have far to go.

Well, this is Texas’ wheel barrow. Why ain’t we fillin it?

Didn't Holland sign already? This is gonna definitely affect season ticket sales.

WTF??? Does he identify where he's going? Why would he decommit unless someone else jacked the NIL $$ out of the park. Even so, Texas can go toe to toe with anyone's NIL.
Come on RT, get the donors to pony up.

Ok. So it doesn't have anything to do with RT directly. But the scorecard currently looks like:
Morris -- transfer out
Brumbaugh -- transfer out
Johnson -- decommits/goes pro in Australia (this is not on Terry, but still)
Holland -- decommits/asks out of his NLI
Hunter -- still declared for draft
Mitchell -- still declared for draft
Disu -- returning
Shedrick -- transfers in (as of now, but with the Holland development who knows)
Abams -- transfer in (same caveat as Shedrick)

If thing stay this way (and there is no telling how it will ultimately shake out) it sure is getting a Weitlichian vibe to it.

Says Texas is still one of his top schools so I guess there is a chance he re-commits.
Sure sounds like he took a look at the roster, and without Hunter and Mitchell for sure coming back thought I need to take another look and evaluate whether I want to be playing 40 minutes a night for potentially a .500 team at best whose games will be mainly on LHN or go somewhere and be a factor in a tournament run.

I really hope you are wrong, but I ain't bettin' the grandbabies' inheritance against you.

This is just the legal way of making behind the scenes crookedness look legit. We do have a narrow doorway to make a counter offer, but at this point things will probably happen quicker than we can muster the money.

Here's some pathological skepticism about Holland and pathological speculation about KU/Morris (he who shall not be named, though I violated my own rule):

He is dangling the carrot of recommitting so we will release him. We have to trust him and play nice. But, what if KU is his destination and Morris was pushing him (this is pure pathological speculation)? If he ends up there, I'd like to see some mechanism in place where we can sue KU for tortuous interference with a contract (assuming that's a thing). We need to be ruthless. In reality, we would also sue Morris for active destruction of our team after he was given the benefit of the doubt about the assault charge. Now, none of that as it relates to Morris is a crime, but I'm talking street talk now. It's grossly offensive. But, at the same time, if schools go after the players then the schools will probably be red-lined by future prospects, so the players continue to have the upper-hand in this sort of thing. But not KU. They should be pursued with prejudice.

Needless to say the mass exodus of the team doesnt bode well for Texas. I dont like releasing a kid that already signed especially after he professed faith in the new coach. But forcing him here would not be good either. As I stated before rt was recruiting for Beard, not rt. Seems like he got a good guard in the portal but there is not another Holland to get.

This kind of sums it up on a couple of levels:
https://www.si.com/college/texas/me...s-twitter-rodney-terry-rumors-transfer-portal

I think the bottom line is that it took us 4 months to pull the "RT for HC" trigger, and many recruits (and current personnel) weren't on board with it to begin with. So CdC threw them a bone in the form of an interim position until that became unsustainable in the form of an NCAA tournament run to the Elite 8.

At this point, Abmas and Shedrick are the ones taking a risk on us and not the other way around. If Mitchell did something as stupid as like an innocuous tweet about firing RT, it makes me wonder who else feels that way.

Wahab to Penn State. Not a big surprise, but it could have helped our frontcourt depth.

Derrian Ford, Arkansas

He was a top-100 recruit last year. Didn't get any minutes with the Hogs. His AAU and HS clips show a lot of speed and athleticism. I also like the idea of having a guy for more than 1 year.

You know what’s frustrating is that as a fanbase it feel as if we are recruiting harder than RT right now. I get it we not going to know the in and outs of every move or any move but dang it RT you don’t have a team right now and it’s frustrating that he not even being aggressive from what we see. We need hella guards and wings and no news ain’t always good news sometimes no news is just that no news.

I hear you, very frustrating.
Transfers discussed:
Reese Dixon-Waters – San Diego State
Caleb Love -> Michigan
Kel’el Ware -> Indiana
LJ Cryer - > Baylor
Tylor Perry -> undecided
Quincy Olivari Xavier
Kadin Shedrick- Texas
Max Abmas – Texas
Kalib Boone – UNLV

I think the staff struck out on a number of targets as did most teams but they did get one of the top gets so far in Abmas and they got Shedrick.

UTEP power forward Ze’rik Onyema – OV yesterday?
UT-Arlington transfer guard Chendall Weaver – OV tomorrow

With all the departures the needs keep increasing so the staff’s game plan has to keep changing. I’ll bet behind the scenes the staff is going nuts.

Grant Nelson, NDSU

Was all-conference and all-defense in the Summit League as well as on the conference tournament all star team twice. 6'10", 215. Averaged 17-9-2-2 last year. He was trusted with a lot of responsibilities, from getting to the stripe and taking some three's as well. Got a lot of blocks. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders and would help alleviate the front court depth issue (assuming Mitchell is gone). I think the issue with Disu and Shedrick being here is that he'd be spelling them, and I'm sure he doesn't want to transfer somewhere so that he can only play 18 minutes.

Jordan Dingle, Penn

The 6'3" combo guard was one of the nation's leading scorers last year with a line of 23-3-2-2. Penn plays the easily-recognizable pick-and-roll offense as well as anyone in the country, and with his luscious 'fro, Dingle made the most of his opportunities to take the shot on those picks. I think college HC's see him as a "system" guy, kind of like any QB from Texas Tech not named Mahomes, it's difficult to take a risk on a guy who might be the definition of a square peg in a square hole. But he's VERY smooth. I'd love to convince him that Austin would be a good fit. His shooting percentage would have tied with Rice for the highest on our team among guards in 2022-23.

Um, beggars can't be choosers. At this point we need bodies.

Prized 7-footer Dickinson transfers to Jayhawks

Guess we just ought to use this season as a transition. Kansas is loading up and our latest decommit will probably end up there too.

Our ceiling is probably "gutsy team who bands together to barely make the NCAA tournament," but the way things are going with other XII rivals, I wouldn't be surprised if it was more like Shaka's 2nd season. We're not going to have depth, and the rest of the conference is going to be too good.

There is no reason for this team to fall apart like it did after an elite 8 run. Your projected ceiling is also mine and if that comes true I'll be really disappointed. If making it is the ceiling then we're probably looking at not even qualifying this coming seasonr with a barely over .500 record.
