Well, yeah, maybe we got some transfers but we just needed warm bodies at this point. This team will be lucky to win 5 games next year. I can't believe how crappy our future is coming off an Elite Eight run. Such a low ceiling for us.
The sky is falling! The sky is falling! The sky is falling!!!
I thought Weaver looked familiar. Everyone was making fun of his hairline at the high school state tournament that year.
He is a good player, and I think it's telling that Mark Few was also after him. I'm hoping our staff can turn him into that combo guard hybrid that so many schools covet. He can shoot and he has speed, but I think they want to see more of his passing ability and defense.
Onyema was recruited out of San Antonio when Terry was at UTEP, so it makes sense that he's familiar enough with the guy to bring him on. He frustrated our frontcourt when we played UTEP in 2022 because he's a banger and pisses off the other team. I see him as kind of a Royce Hamm. I'll be happier if we focus more on the backcourt at this point.
I was just trying to save all the Chicken Littles some keystrokes by beating them to the punch. You got this, "We're doomed" thing down quite nicely! Ha...

I'm going to have to agree with you there.I hate giving up offensive rebounds.
If this guard is still in the portal, we should at least be talking with him. Our resident Tech fan on these boards can vouch that he's really good on defense.Mylik Wilson Stats, News, Bio | ESPN
Cougar guard Mylik Wilson enters transfer portal - The Cougar
Mylik Wilson (SG -- Redshirt SR):
Here's a decent enough SG to pursue for a 1 year term. He's not "heavily coveted", but is a competent Guard on the basketball court. He won't make anybody's All-American list (or All-Conference list), but he could fit in here, and get plenty of minutes on the court, right away. He may have some commitment issues. He's bounced around from La.-Lafayette (2 years, where he did ok), Texas Tech (1 year, underutilized), and UH (1 year, where he redshirted).
In 2022, he was underutilized at Tech, playing only around 15 minutes per game. The year before, he scored 12.9 PPG with 33.7 min/game. 2 years ago, he posted a 35.8% at 3 point shooting, but that % dropped the last 2 years. We need help at G. This guy looks decent enough. Worst case scenario is he'll end up a role player and provided competent depth. 247 had him as the #2 SG in Louisiana as a recruit. If he doesn't pan out, we're only stuck with him for 1 year. Not our first (or second or third) choice, but he should get a look. We need some guards now.
Time will tell but no way we compensated for losing 2 5-star recruits. We got a few bodies but they were not highly rated out of high school. Very seldom do the lower tier recruits rise to the top which is really what we need based on our overall personnel losses. Maybe they will be a "team" and it works out.Well, things were grim. I'd rather have the hand I thought we were playing. We've lost three 5-star players. Did we compensate? Potentially yes for this year as two of them (the incoming freshmen) might not have jelled in their first year (do all one and done's jel their first year?) and the other (he who shall not be named) didn't exactly light it up.
Well, I dunno. Elsewhere I've read study showing 5*'s rarely have a meaningful impact their freshman year, i.e. Greg Brown. And most are gone after a year anyway so they never have any meaningful impact. KD was a rare exception.Time will tell but no way we compensated for losing 2 5-star recruits. That is really 3 5 stars if you count Morris who transferred to Kansas. He was not a 1 and done and was a BIG loss..Time will tell but no way we compensated for losing 2 5-star recruits
Maybe. But we were recruiting against TTU and aTm, not Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and Carolina. There is a theory about avoiding one and done's and instead sticking with more mature players. Our transfers are seasoned if anything. We could have a very solid group with very good upside from Max and Disu. Hunter and (crosses fingers) Mitchell are that much older. We just need experience and calm in the backcourt. The freshman 5-stars are just out of the house. Our older guys are looking to win. They see something here. I'm trying to remain optimistic without the kool-aid gargle.

The best coach in NCAAM thinks it is worth the gamble.Time will tell if Morris is as good as he thinks he is.
I wasn't aware that he was going to UCLA.The best coach in NCAAM thinks it is worth the gamble.
