2023 Recruiting - Football

Funny you mention aggy, I haven't been over to their site in a year or more, not sure what prompted me to go over there tonight but found this little gem and busted out laughing at the dumb ***......

"This whole Arch Manning craze I never understood. Kid is probably going to end up overrated like Eli."
Every aggie would the lick the balls of every bull east of the Brazos just to be in a championship game and one of their dumb asses thinks Eli was over rated? The winner of 2 superbowls, MVP......unbelievable stupidity. :lmao:
I’ll never forget the bashing they gave Vince Young on posts when they got Reggie McNeil

Baxter is a good one. Nice pickup after Owens fiasco.
At the risk of being called an Aggie, I actually prefer Baxter to Owens
Remember when Bijan was rated second to Zach Evans?
I’m wrong a lot, I admit it, however I was all for Bijan over Zach Evans.
And I predicted Zach wouldn’t stick at TCU as he, like Owens, loves the Perriloux attention.

I guess Harris Sewell is going Aggy. Johntay needs to pull the trigger and we’re good.
Sewell advised the coaches about a month ago to stop recruiting him. A bit odd as he and Manning have built up some good vibes.
Johntay is enjoying the process. He dropped his top 3 last week and the gags were not on it.

Apparently Owens has issues between the ears. And looks like their is some behind the scene issues. I posted that 2-3 weeks ago.

in touch with the Texas staff again on Sunday.

Damn, that's a broad statement "in touch" as in

1) Thanks for the great time, I'm going to Brazos County

2) Really didn't know how great everything was on the 40 Acres. Lay out my future.

3) Something in between

It can't be understated, Sark has done such a phenomenal job of recruiting in such a short time! Under Herman recruiting was sinking faster than an apple falling from a tree. Everything is coming together even though recruiting hasn't been perfect, but what is, we have made great strides to get where we want to go. Culture has also changed dramatically i would say. We have positive expectations again.
Great move to get rid of Herman. I was pushing that for a year before it happened. Sark was a surprise hiring to me but i got on board early.
Now begins the process of success to translate to the field.

Except back then, UT was not loading up on 3 star and low 4 star guys in June, claiming we hit the jackpot and that it was the one stud 5 star historical commitment who enabled us to get all those guys. I just don't know how TTU and Iowa State get all their 3 star and low 4 star guys without Manning.

Now granted, we didn't get them, but last year without Manning we went down to the wire for Evan Stewart, Harold Perkins and Denver Harris, all the #1 guy at their position and we got Banks and Campbell, each arguably the #1 guy at their position.

Yesterday was like bragging about a medical stock trading volume after the FDA approves its new drug, but before the stock price adjusts to its new value. Of course all the 3 star and low 4 star guys are going to immediately exercise their scholarship offers/options. They have to because the Manning effect is increasing the scholarship value and about to cause a bunch of 5 star and high 4 star recruits to start reaching out and taking up the open slots.

Now, I'm not knocking our new recruits. I am sure they are mounds of clay with plenty of upside potential and our staff is looking forward to developing them. But, let's cool the jets on the talk like our class is on par with the Bama's, Georgia's or, sadly, even Aggies (from last year). We have numbers and average quality. We don't even average a 4 star rating.

I got to see Owens play live last year. While he is certainly a good back, in the game I saw he was a fast guy who made most of his yards running through open holes and outrunning the angles. He has some shake, but he didn't look like the complete package to me back then (and I posted this same report then) like the great backs who have it all.

There is truth in what you say

I think i prefer speed over power. I am kinda stuck in between. I like splash and flash. This is why i am a big Keilan R fan. I hope he gets a lot more touches.
Poms-
Earl Campbell on line one.
And Rickey and D'Onta Foreman are holding on lines 2 & 3.
(Just joking here.. Eric Metcalf and JAMAAL CHARLES Would have something to say)

If the 3 stars that committed yesterday are the players that Flood targeted, that’s good enough for me regardless of their star rating.

Might want to omit Ricky from you list. While he was thick like your others, he was also really fast.

This is my understanding of the recruits as well. He favors size and their youth provides a higher ceiling to their development in what he wants out of a lineman. I think that d.e.v.e.l.o.p.m.e.n.t. word scares the crap out of many of us here because we haven't seen it in years. I think the worm has turned in our favor now.

You could say that about just about anything. Obviously, or at least I would hope, Flood sees upside potential and thinks he can turn them into the equivalent of higher ranked, more talented players. That said, you also have to ask yourself what he will be able to turn already higher ranked players like Banks, Campbell and Uz into since they are starting out which a higher floor. One would have to expect better success.

The comparisons of the recruit star rankings, (actually numerical ratings even more) overlaid to the NFL draft is completely undeniable. 5 star and high 4 star players have an exponentially higher occurrence of being drafted, same with being drafted in the first round (= stud producer in college). Mid 4 star drops significantly and low 4 stars have about the same success as a 3 star. I poo pooed the ratings for many years, but I was wrong as the historical data just doesn't lie.
Again, not knocking our guys but pointing out that the supposed Sunday avalanche was really not that unexpected, nor spectacular, I was hoping to leverage the Manning effect to improve the average base incoming talent level, not keep it the same as every other year, while claiming we are doing better because it all came on the same day. But, it's only June. Maybe the next talent download day will be full of a bunch of 5 star guys and all will become right with the world.

I guess Saban and Smart can't develop and that's why they have no choice but to bring in high 4 and 5 star guys? Sounds a bit Aggy.

This situation involves real serious issues. Several warnings went out months ago.
No risk of sounding aggy here.

I have always said getting the highest rated recruits is the biggest reason for Saban's success not so much development cause they all teach about the same even in the lesser colleges.
