I definitely agree that Derrick Johnson is the last big name defensive recruit that did live up to expectations. In fact, more than any other player I can remember, Johnson made an immediate and dramatic impact when he hit the field for the first time.

I still remember when as a freshman, Johnson blew up the Washington qb in the fourth quarter of the holiday bowl. Followed up with an interception on the next series I think. That team should have been playing for the NC but that was still a fun comeback win

I haven't been over to TxAgs and don't plan to, but I would bet their reaction is:
"He's a POS, didn't want him, don't need him, wasn't SEC ready."

I've read enough of it to say even the hard core members know that Jimbo is a problem. They can't fire him and there's no reason to believe in him. All they got is $$$ and they blew a big wad on last years class. I don't know how much money there is the till (for any school for that matter) but buying your way out of a problem caused by a contract you can't afford to buy out doesn't seem to be a winning formula.
