2022 Softball Season

Anyone listen or watch with live stats the Kansas game? I didn't the first and third game, but did listen to the second.

Second game (I listened on radio):
I don't know why keep thinking things will ever change. Once again, Mary at catcher, thinks she can throw out a runner at third and throws a ball that Scott misses. Scores a runner.
When Day hits a homer, Mike pulls her and puts in Dayton or Gilbert. Not as a punishment, but more like a "Okay, thanks. Let's give those non-starters a chance at batting".
Burke, finally gets a hit! A double! Driving two runs in!
And Burke is starting because Cimusz is out for the series to rest a hurt hand. Ugh. Got stepped on in one LSU game and then jammed it jumping back to base, I think.

Third game (purely from box score):
Dayton, a grand slam?!?
Then again, Kansas walked in one run from bases loaded, prior to the Slam.
So yeah, the relief pitcher (in the first inning) was no bueno.
Just when I groan that Dayton is only good for bunting, she shows the long ball?

I think Cimusz may have broken a hand/hamate bone. She was it by a pitch in the Texas st game, left immediately.Didn't look good.

The outfield seating that was going to happen in 2020 until COVID shut everything down. And then 2021 was limited, spaced seating. I assume that these are all GA. Interesting thing as this takes up the space where "free" tailgating occurs (most famously Parker's dog is shown chasing down some balls). Also have to see if they fence off the area around the stands to prevent non-payers as well as vandals.

Has there been a spike in attendance I'm not aware of?

Last night at the game:
  1. Using my inside voice, "Okay. Don't be negative. Remember the second LSU game where you thought it was over? Don't say it's over."
  2. Wondering amongst ourselves who the starting pitcher would be for game 2?
  3. I threw out Day for 3-4 innings, and then just swap pitchers every two innings
  4. Hulon in shorts and t-shirt with the team. Her season may be over, especially with the big need of pitchers we have
  5. Czech.....what is going on? Has to be all confidence related
  6. Simpson, brilliant until she got tired. Not ready to go past 3 innings coach
  7. The coaches were talking with the players trying to emphasize keeping the ball lower on hits
  8. Only the more senior hitters, except MARY, started trying to lower the ball (yeah, I mean it's easy to say that sitting in the stands)
  9. In Mary's last at-bat, I said, "Ugh Mary. She's always going to go for the HR ball"
  10. A ISU fan was aggressively doing "horns down" during the Eyes. After the game, I was very tempted to shout at him "HORNS GO UP!!" as we were leaving. I decided to keep it classy
  11. EXTRA: As you know, football players and Bijan Robinson was at the game. I have to really hand it to this young man. He was CONSTANTLY having fans ask if he would come up and say hi to their kids or take pictures. Extremely gracious, friendly, and cooperative. My son admires him greatly and I nudged him into taking a picture with Bijan. Nicer kid than you can imagine.

BAM ! Iopoko!:yippee::hookem::bevo:

Yep, I was saying it. 2 on, 2 outs, 2 strikes, Texas blows another one on stupid errors. Then Bam, Iopoko proves me wrong. Even the pitch looked to high, thought it was going to be a routine fly ball, but she caught just enough. BAM! Game over!:hookem::hookem2::bevo:

Now Texas how bout concentrating and making routine plays so you're not in that situation anymore.

Has anyone else noticed that White continuously pulls Day out of the game at random times? I mean she hits a homer in Kansas and gets pulled. She even got pulled out of right in Louisiana game with 2 outs in the 6th and when the camera showed her running in, it seemed like she didn’t even know why she was being pulled. I wonder what White’s thought process is and why he pulls her in and out of games.

Why is Day in the Dog House??

Unsure how to describe this game other than, "Both teams' pitchers are tired and sucking"

Also, good luck to LHN to try to edit this 3:45 game down to 2:00 for rebroadcast.

So let's see, for both teams
  1. ERAs up in flames
  2. Batting averages up!
  3. Pitchers are worn out
  4. Defense can't trust their pitchers to get out
  5. Home plate ump calling Saturday's game was HORRENDOUS - his strike zone changed constantly during the same inning
  6. Relievers are worse than the pitchers they are relieving
  7. Umps calling for reviews without the coaches asking for it - not a good sign
I predict that Texas will start Czech and ISU will start the pitcher with big round glasses, and both teams will see how long each player can last.

I don't know why Mike won't try Day for 2-3 innings.

ISU looked devastated as they walked off the field yesterday after losing twice in a row in walk off fashion. I felt for them, a little. I agree that Czech will probably start today. Simpson seems to run out of gas quick when she gets in. O'Leary is just a disaster. Agree he should try Day for a few innings, WTH Mike? Can't be worse than O'Leary. Mike will probably try to squeeze a few more innings out of Dolcini. I do not look forward to playing OU and Okie Lite in a few weeks!

Trying to find the good in the ISU series:
1. Czech has found her mojo. It took 2 "why are you putting her out there Mike" innings, but she has found her confidence
2. Offense knows they can turn it on in crunch time
3. Coaches are now viewing Dayton and Popelka as capable of more than just bunts (I mean Dayton hit a grand slam at Kansas, c'mon!)

The bad in the ISU series:
1. Some of our hitters are in a slump
2. Washington needs some work on fielding
3. Catchers need some work on fielding

Still, we'll have 30 wins when we meet the OU threshing machine Friday. So that's looking up?

I find it hard to believe that Coach White has hobbled together a soon to be 30 win season with this pitching staff, which has turned out to be very average at best. He seems to make the right decision when he has to and the bats have really come through. There has been some amazing comebacks. Especially that LSU game where we came back from 10-9 in the last inning. The Iowa State comebacks were none the less spectacular. Kudos to the team and Coach White and his staff for having that “Texas Fight”! Appears we have some good senior leadership in the dugout as well.

I watched the re-broadcast of the UTA game and I was reminded that Mike White flipped Mia Holmes from A&M and that we would never have done this under Connie Clark. Then, I went to revisit the recruiting thread for this class. Interesting how players have turned out:

1) Allie Clements, C/3B; Klein, Texas [Flip to Stanford]
2) Sophia Simpson, P/1B/OF, Mount Belvieu Texas
3) Katie Cimusz, C/Corner, Atascocita, Texas
4) Mya Holmes, OF, Texas City, Texas
5) Mia Scott, 3B/SS/OF, Angleton, Texas
6) Ashton Maloney, OF, Kansas City, Missouri
7) Vanessa Quiroga, P/Util, Corpus Christi, Texas
8) Nelia Peralta SS/2B, Wellington, FLorida [Flip to Auburn]

Additionally Mya Holmes was a flip from LSU. Peralta flipped from Ol' Miss to us, to Auburn. And apparently, we played against her this year at Clearwater!

Past guesses by those on this forum thought the Cimusz would be a DH and that Holmes might be a better freshman player than Scott.

But having 3 freshman on this list playing meaningful minutes or starting is a testament to Mike's scouting. Clements (last Connie recruit) has only appeared in 7 games for Stanford, whereas Peralta seems to be a starter.

OU has won 30 games via run rule. The closest anyone has gotten is Tennessee 9-8(10) and Utah 2-1.

On the bright side, this is their worst fielding team since 2012, when they ended the season at 0.968.

Anyone got a spare ticket for Friday or Saturday's OU game? I have 3 tickets to give away for Thursday's game.
